Chapter 49: Half Moon
Chapter 49: Half Moon
She walked fast toward the dining room. When she arrived, she couldn’t hold herself from broadly smiling because the man she wanted to see was sitting in his usual spot.
Leon notices her presence; he looks at her, and when their eyes meet, it makes Allynna feel electrocuted. She felt her whole body slightly tremble. For her, it wasn’t a strange feeling anymore... because she had felt it too often when she was around him.
"Brother Leon..." she greeted him shily, avoided his eyes, and walked towards her seat, which had been prepared by Geoffrey.
"How’s your day?" Leon asks her after she sits in her chair.
Allynna immediately told her activities this afternoon with Lella on the second floor.
Leon hears her story without saying anything.
Makes Allynna feel better since earlier she was afraid Leon would get angry at her because she broke his rules by letting Lella spend the day with her on the 2nd floor. However, what she was thinking didn’t happen because Leon didn’t care at all.
Silently she smiles while starting to eat her dinner.
The room became quiet again. The only sound that could be heard was the sound of their cutlery colliding with their plates. Meanwhile, there were only the two of them in the room. Even Geoffrey, who used to stand in the corner of the room, was nowhere to be seen.
"Brother..." Allynna started to break the silence between them. Leon looked at her gently. She continued, "Thank you for making that empty space the way I wanted...."
"My pleasure. However, you must pay attention to your safety. Don’t hurt yourself in the kitchen..." Leon said.
Allynna was stunned when she saw a glimpse of worry from his eyes. Instantly her heartfelt warmth realization Leon was afraid she would get hurt. She smiled before saying, "Don’t worry... even though I’m an amateur chef, I’m quite talented. My friend said...I’m a genius chef."
"Really?"
"Yes, Your highness... would you like to taste the food I cooked?" She smiled, imagining cooking for him. But a second later, she felt something weird.
She looked at him but soon her heart was tightening because now he looked a little bit gloomy. Why? Why does he look sad?
"Allynna... why do you call me your highness?"
Allynna bewilderment. Did I call him that?
"Yes, you call me that!"
"B-Brother Leon... looks like I was so excited that I forgot to call you by that title, my apology."
Leon smiled, "It’s ok... I understand."
"Brother, didn’t you say you wanted to stop hearing what I was thinking?" She laughed.
Leon smiled a little because he was caught still hearing her thoughts. They quietly continue their dinner again.
After they finished their dinner, Leon asked her to walk to the lake.
That night, the sky looked so beautiful. A half-moon shone so brightly and lit up the night near the lake...
"It’s pretty..." Allynna said. Her head looked up at the sky while sitting on a park bench near the lake. For a moment, she was silent, admiring the stars in the sky. So many stars were shining and seemed so close to her. Then her eyes landed on the half-moon.
Instantly she felt something stimulating her heart; She felt her heart seize a wave from the half-moon. They seemed to communicate. And, this wasn’t the first time she had felt this way, but ever since she was a child, this feeling appeared every time she looked at the half-moon in the night.
And, after her parents died, she found a small necklace with a half-moon pendant in their bedroom. She thought that ’Half Moon’ was related to her past because there’s a small name engraved ’A.Moon’ on the pendant.
Allynna glances at Leon, wanting to ask him. But she stopped. She knows this is not the right time to tell about her past. She will wait until that time comes.
"Brother Leon..." Allynna calls Leon. He was standing not far from her. When he looked at her, Ally continued her words, "Can I go to the dock?"
Leon does not answer her, but he walks towards the dock and gestures to follow him. Allynna happily followed his step...
She sat on the edge of the dock, and her legs dangled just inches from the water. Her heart was so happy to enjoy the tranquility of the night. Besides her, Leon was also immersed in his mind.
For a dozen minutes, they don’t speak to each other.
The night was so quiet. There was no sound of the nocturnal creatures to be heard, and she didn’t even feel the gust of wind that she usually heard when she was in Sarlun.
In this lake, time seems to freeze.
Allynna enjoyed the silence. Her eyes saw the lake in front of her, which looked silver in the reflection of the moonlight. Looks so beautiful. She was mesmerized. Then she glances at the dark forest in front.
Her curiosity arose. She looked at Leon...
"Brother Leon, are there any beasts in the forest? Is it safe to climb to the top?" She’s planning to climb to the top of the mountain as soon as she has the chance.
He saw her with confused-looking eyes. After a few seconds, he said, "It’s Safe... why do you ask?"
"I want to climb to the top of the mountain..."
His face changed slightly. "You can go. But, you must not go by yourself. And I want you to promise that you will stay on that specific track’s path.... Never explore the forest alone by yourself and take unpathed tracks." His voice sounded thoughtful.
"Why? I mean, is it not safe to explore other paths?"
He did not answer her right away.
His act makes Allynna alert. Is the forest unsafe? Why? Doesn’t the entire mountain belong to him? She became curious.
"Brother?" Allynna whispered.
"It’s not safe. At least for now. Wait after I check it." Today he felt something strange about the forest and it bothered him. But he still isn’t sure what it was.
