Chapter 859: Chapter 593 Locusts Passing_2
"Why are there so many humans appearing?"
Look at the direction, it seems to be from the Teleportation Gate... Did the gate fall? Are they trying to invade the Material Plane but got invaded instead?
A ridiculous feeling surged through my heart.
The Cursed Land invaded the Material Plane due to a lack of resources, but why would the Material Plane invade the Cursed Land? It couldn’t be for the curse.
Various magic streaked across the sky, like a magnificent rainbow dyeing the yellow sky into a splendid display of colors.
Red light hit the ground, exploding into a wall of flames; a green wind mass collided with the fire wall, turning it into a twisting fire tornado, roasting the faces of nearby soldiers painfully.
Ice pillars, rocks, exploding entwined vines...
Curse Soldiers who had never been so close to magic tasted the pain from it with their own bodies.
"Boom!"
The Iron-armored Knight suddenly felt his head sink, hit by a head-sized rock. The damage wasn’t enough to bring him down.
But when he looked up, he realized how bad the situation was.
Someone had scattered a curtain of flames from the sky, and head-sized rocks passed through the flames, trailing burning tails like meteors crashing towards them.
I’m just a member of a resource-plundering squad, a Heavy Armor Knight. What have I done to deserve such terrifying magical bombardment?
"Boom!"
The ground was shaking violently.
The Tusker Elephant twisted its body uneasily until a familiar long arrow pierced straight through its head.
As a creature wrapped in curses, its brain was not necessarily a fatal weak spot; they weren’t much different from Abyssal Calamities. This tenacious vitality often left enemies helpless.
But the subsequent attacks swept away the Tusker Elephant under the Iron-armored Knight, continuously pummeling it. The Tusker Elephant wobbled and eventually collapsed with a "boom."
The attacks haven’t stopped.
Until the Tusker Elephant completely lost its life force.
The flames of war gnawed at my ears, consciousness hazy. The Iron-armored Knight, who wasn’t heavily injured, fell to the ground dazed, as if he had been caught in a dreadful magical duel between strong opponents, playing the role of a leaf blown about by the wind of magic.
Finally, the barrage stopped.
The world quieted, allowing a moment to catch a breath and relax.
"Too ruthless." A voice came from beside the ear.
"Search around to see if there’s anything useful."
They were scavenging for loot.
"Can we eat the meat of this elephant?"
The Iron-armored Knight was pretending to be dead, but his mind was full of questions.
"I think its tusks must be quite valuable."
"I’ll take the elephant’s trunk."
"This armor is completely deformed."
"If we didn’t go all out, it would’ve been us who died."
You guys are being modest.
The Iron-armored Knight grumbled inwardly.
He had fought all his life, but this was the first time he was surrounded by attacks without even seeing his enemy.
Winning battles isn’t enough; resource allocation matters too. After all, most wars are caused by resource issues. If winning a war earns you just 1 but costs 10, it’s better not to fight at all.
But this group fights with a cost of 100, and in the end, they divide less than 1 of the spoils.
Madmen?
If the Material Plane is filled with such madmen, the Cursed Land is done for.
They dared to invade recklessly not because they were strong, but because they had nothing to lose. Even if they couldn’t win, they would retreat. They could lose countless times because they were already utterly destitute, but winning just once could turn everything around.
The undead searched for resources like locusts sweeping past, taking everything they could see, leaving nothing behind. Every corpse on the ground was stripped bare, not even underwear left.
Everyone turned into hamsters, frantically hoarding, not caring whether it was useful or not, as long as they took it first.
In such circumstances, the Iron-armored Knight, pretending to be dead, found his situation getting very delicate. He quietly waited, unsure whether he should rise up and die heroically or continue pretended dead.
"Get up, stop pretending, I know you’re not dead."
A voice came.
The Iron-armored Knight opened his eyes and sat up.
He resignedly looked at the counter-invaders from the Material Plane, noticing they kept a distance, the front row carrying shields, behind them Mages ready to chant spells, and further back various support classes buffing.
There’s so many of you, and I’m alone. Do you have to be so cautious?
"Are there any other territories nearby?"
"Yes, but they’re very poor."
The Iron-armored Knight felt he should explain the situation carefully, to avoid these people’s wasted effort and eventual anger falling on him.
"All valuable things have been taken by us. There’s no need for you to go."
"Don’t worry, we’re good people; we won’t take a needle or thread, just want to have a look."
"Huh?" The Iron-armored Knight was confused.
"Lead the way!"
The undead also wanted to find a weakling to lead the way, but the earlier brutal attack had left only the Iron-armored Knight surviving after the magical sweep.
Making do with what they have.
"There’s a cave nearby." The Iron-armored Knight said, "Dog-mouthed people live there."
He obediently led the way, until they saw the cave of the Dog-mouthed people.
"Brothers, charge!"
"Remember, take everything except needles and thread!"
Another locust invasion.
They plunder first, kill later, so brutally even the Iron-armored Knight, accustomed to eternal warfare and slaughter in the Cursed Land, could not restrain the chill in his heart.
"Next place." The undead looked at the Iron-armored Knight, eyes like hungry beasts eyeing a savory prey.
The same scenario played out in multiple locations.
Tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, even millions of undead counter-invaded the Cursed Land, with an attitude of grabbing whatever they could, pulling up even the wild grass they passed, leaving the already lifeless Cursed Land with even more barren patches.
Third Tower Stone Pillar.
Assist and others were invigorated; they never expected real reinforcements to arrive.
Was it a coincidence, or did they realize our predicament and came to assist?
"Probably a coincidence." Qiuyue analyzed seriously, "Although there’s official compensation, we who found and actually used the bug got no special thanks, really?"
"Just kick those Wizards out, and we’ll have huge advantages."
Keywords blocked.
They had already noticed the terrifying presence of local Jawbone Lord — not only could he monitor them around the clock, but he could also invade their system chat functions directly.
This breaking of the fourth wall was both headache-inducing and exhilarating; this is how a game should be fun.
If it weren’t for the various quests they could take, and the golden exclamation mark [!] above Lind’s head, they would really believe they weren’t playing a game, but projecting their consciousness into another world through helmets, controlling created characters to adventure.
"What should we do?"
"Do you guys have any ideas?"
"Of course... not!"
In the presence of Lord Jawbone within the range of the Third Tower Stone Pillar, even disregarding the shambling Red-armored soldiers outside, it was very difficult for the undead to successfully invade.
Unless Lind could bring strong allies over to fight.
Which was impossible; the Teleportation Gate limited both the invasion of the Cursed Land and the counter-invasion of the Material Plane.
"Actually, I have an idea."
The Dark Great Mage Diao suddenly spoke, Mandarin really was convenient.
Those unaware would think they were exchanging magic spells.
But this couldn’t be done frequently, as it would raise suspicion; if separated and detained, it’d be a loss.
"What’s the plan?"
"But we need those people outside to cooperate by getting caught, Lord Jawbone loves capturing humans to research magic, he won’t miss anyone who can use magic."
"You mean get them all captured and brought inside, although this place is quite big, it seems it can’t hold that many people."
"No, it can definitely hold them."
"You mean..."
Got it.
"Then we break out together?"
"Yes, using the chaos to complete our quests."
"You’re dreaming." 21 Assist said, "They’re not done playing yet."
"..."
"So, we have to wait a bit longer, huh?"
What rescue mission? We should wait some more. Even saving the Princess has to be queued behind; they just want to thoroughly enjoy the new map and go crazy gathering loot.
Locusts are sweeping the Cursed Land.
Leaving no ground untouched.
