Chapter 822: Chapter 576 Prelude to Curse Shadow
The Dark Great Mage Diao’s gaze halted.
He was no stranger to enigmatic characters, like Lind, who was once the most mysterious and unique NPC, holding great popularity.
Now, seeing a similar character again, his first thought was to negotiate.
What if it was another hidden quest NPC?
The figure before him wasn’t tall, remained silent, and kept a distance, making it hard to discern their features clearly.
"Is there anything I can help you with?"
The Undead were always eager to help, never asking for any payment, just offering their assistance.
He approached, but the other cautiously moved back.
Instead of attacking, the figure trembled like they were frightened, maintaining a certain distance from the Undead.
This was the figure’s social safety boundary.
Just as he wanted to force his way closer, a sudden group chat notification diverted his attention.
"Lind seems to have set up a temporary respawn point, guys. Feel free to roam around, but keep in mind that this respawn point won’t last long, according to Lind."
By the time he refocused, the figure had disappeared like a breeze.
"Forget it."
The Undead decided to continue towards the Magic Castle, though he kept pondering the red-named enemy he had just encountered. From the brief encounter, he didn’t sense any hostility from them.
But the red name above their head wouldn’t lie.
They must be on opposing sides, not targeting him, but certainly against the lord he now served—Lind Armand.
Taking a few steps back to think, Lind Armand was everyone’s assumed ’creator’s favorite,’ and ’important NPC.’ He controlled most of the Magic Land and had traversed all three newbie village continents.
In the early stages, opposing sides could be justified, but by now, everyone agreed on one thing: Lind was the main storyline.
Who would still oppose Lind now?
Calamity, Abyss, or perhaps a returning lord—definitely the ’villain.’ In games, you need a dichotomous mindset; otherwise, understanding your enemies too well would blunt your own blade.
"Boom!"
An explosion suddenly rang out from behind, causing him to swiftly turn towards the source of the sound, which came from the high tower.
The tower, upstairs.
Tina, with her large belly, sat on a chair.
Before her was a giant iron cage with a miserable figure inside.
It had a human form, but the lower half was a bird, while the upper half was human. Its outstretched arms had become wings with disheveled and coarse black feathers, and its delicate face was marked with sorrow.
A bird-bodied banshee, or a human-faced bird, was not a creature of this world.
"Sing again." She urged.
"Boom!"
The loud door-opening sound grabbed Tina’s attention as she turned to look at the newcomer.
"There’s an outsider here."
"Yes, a little wizard."
Tina nodded.
"He won’t bother or harm anyone; we don’t need to annihilate him."
Tina’s tone involuntarily carried a hint of pleading as she spoke.
However, the newcomer remained silent, choosing the most brutal approach, possibly annoyed by Tina’s indecisiveness. He had sharp claws, teeth sharper than beasts, and a strong body, yet she only liked gathering hazelnuts or drinking rose wine.
"A farmer who can never pick up a sword!" He finally spoke.
Tina roared in anger, charging forward. The wind generated by her strong body as she ran made the floor thud like a fierce magic chariot.
As expected, the attack was easily avoided.
"Boom!" The deafening sound of an explosion echoed as Tina collided with the wall.
The mysterious figure lightly jumped onto Tina’s back, tugging vigorously on her burlap gown.
"Rip!"
Blood splattered.
The burlap gown had long fused with her large body, and the rough yank made Tina scream in agony.
She flailed her arms to shake off the person on her back, but the sound of their landing was so light it was almost inaudible.
"Take your kitchen knife and say goodbye to your bird friend." His second sentence was equally detestable. "You’ve severely slowed our progress."
With twisted pleasure, he targeted the caged bird-banshee.
"What do you intend to do to my friend’s friend?" A sudden voice emerged.
The Dark Great Mage, breathing heavily, rushed to the stairs, pointing his magic wand at the mysterious figure.
"I know you are a Face Stealer, using this method to hide your true identity? And to think I considered you and Lind to be of the same caliber; you two are worlds apart."
The figure turned around.
The new name suddenly piqued his interest.
He slowly approached.
The Undead backed away, continuing to speak, attempting to extract some critical information from the other: "What progress? Do you know who’s standing outside? He doesn’t need to lift a finger; I can easily take you down with one move."
The figure suddenly opened their mouth wide, lunging at the Undead.
The next moment, the Undead’s vision went completely dark.
...
When he reopened his eyes, the Dark Great Mage Diao instinctively touched his neck, which still hurt from the swift attack that caught him off guard.
The pain of being stabbed through the neck lingered.
"I’ve been attacked." He looked at Lind, immediately reporting his ordeal.
The mysterious figure.
Lind could successfully conceal his abilities because of the Heart of the Fox, which, as the womb of gods, made concealment one of its primary duties.
