Chapter 716: Chapter 524: Trouble, Siege
The first Godslaying in the new version of Undead showed a stark difference from the past when facing powerful adversaries without any means to strike back; now, they had their opponents on the retreat, their strength increase completely surpassing expectations.
Dozens of close-combat Heroic Rank Undead surged towards the Sword Demon, only to be flipped by the Storm whipped up by a single elbow strike.
"Damn—!"
"Need to throw in more people, he’s too strong."
"No one else available, it’s not like we’re hogging the action."
The frenzied Sword Demon displayed a combat prowess that instilled fear into the Undead, perhaps its only weakness was not really a weakness, a slightly weaker defense.
The battle reached a stalemate.
But slowly, the situation began to shift because the Sword Demon’s movement speed was too fast and its "Thin Sword" could resist ranged attacks, so Wizards and other casting characters couldn’t perform effectively in battle.
By contrast, close-combat Knight types.
Most current Heroic Rank Knights hailed from the Rand Kingdom, all following the Sun’s Testament pathway, with a very uniform combat style.
Balanced stats, attacks infused with Flames, no clear strengths but no weaknesses either.
Life Points enough for a long fight, surviving is the key to dealing damage.
The shift in combat style: ranged characters focused on support and harassment, and close combat was a head-on collision.
An Undead Wizard saw a Knight throw a small barrel out.
He recognized the barrel—a Space Barrel, the first generation of Space Equipment from the Rand Kingdom, but much smaller than he remembered.
After encountering more and more powerful entities, Space Equipment became varied, and naturally, the Space Barrel was phased out.
So, seeing the Knight suddenly throw out the small barrel left him puzzled.
"That bunch of muscle heads’ fighting style."
"What?"
The barrel collided with the Sword Demon in a fierce Burst.
"Holy shit, it’s a blast barrel!"
This time, he understood.
"Sun Knights seem to have an offensive connection to Flames, hence they invented the coin-wasting sword, which is discouraged."
"I heard there’s an Enchantment Skill related to Flames, any skill that controls Flames?"
"You’re overthinking it, it’s just plain old face-to-face bombing."
Indeed, it is discouraged. The Burst of one strike didn’t hurt the Sword Demon, but it emptied their own pockets first.
Explosive Space Barrels crammed with Alchemical Tools became a one-time item, allowing Knights, who lacked "ranged" offensive means, a chance to fight back.
Not affordable to non-tycoons.
A group of close-combat Knights threw Space Barrels at the Sword Demon, who was busy fending off Wizard’s laser-like spells with its "Thin Sword," and was soon covered in exploding mushroom clouds all over its body.
Flames completely engulfed it.
"Fall back!"
All Knights simultaneously received the signal.
Some looked up, seeing several Bat Wing Blood Wart Demon Race Undead circling in the air, not strong enough to join the fight directly, but able to offer a full map view, real-time broadcasting, and 1-on-1 camera tracking to ensure positioning.
What seemed like a chaotic Boss fight, was in fact under someone’s control all along.
"Wizards, cast skills to distract."
The just-emerged Sword Demon slammed into magical bombardments, withstanding another wave of impacts, finally showing signs of injury.
"The effect is significant, watch your positioning, a couple of hundred more times should do it."
Knights, wielding Flame-lit Longswords, took a deep breath.
It would be their turn after the Wizard’s magical bombardment.
"Here it comes!"
A close-combat trick, lifting the sword blade, the enemy’s head delivered on a platter.
The operation was simple, bait and punish.
Whether in games where enemies can read inputs or in real life’s unpredictable confrontations, every person has their own combat style, but the Sword Demon, now submerged in Bloodlust and frenzy, appeared even more one-dimensional.
Without the automatic protection of its "Thin Sword," the battle might have ended long ago.
"Here we go!"
"Defend!"
"Charge up!"
Despite the chaos, they avoided attack after attack with ease, ensuring they could trade the least sacrifice for the most damage.
Under these circumstances, the Sword Demon was completely led by the nose.
With organized alternating attacks, the Sword Demon’s Life Points were quickly whittled down.
The Sword Demon, fully plunged into madness, had no thought of fleeing, which relieved the attacking team—good thing this Boss seemed a bit off, stable aggro was enough.
This Boss fight was theirs for the taking, no worries about it running away.
The Sword Demon’s Life Points bar quickly shrank to one-tenth of its full length.
Until there was a "boom."
On the bloodstained battlefield littered with corpses,
The staggering Sword Demon wobbled before kneeling on one knee.
Dawn broke in the sky, the morning Sun, and blood on the ground painted the Eastern horizon red.
The Undead watched the still figure, saw the luxurious purple-gold helmet crack open to reveal a gaunt face with eyes sharp as swords.
"We won!"
...
Lind turned to look at Old Black beside him.
"What’s up?" Old Black, sensing his gaze, asked in confusion.
"I need to step out for a bit."
"Oh." Old Black nodded nonchalantly, his attention fixed on his Character Card.
Magic Bull had gone offline and hadn’t returned, both of them were free to move as they liked.
Lind turned and disappeared.
After the Sword Demon was dealt with, it was confiscated by Melulan as "Task Items" and a batch of rewards was distributed. The Undead were pleased to offer up everything they got.
After defeating the Sword Demon, they would receive formulas and Skills related to the Sword Demon, as well as Magic Potions. The rewards were so bountiful that the items that actually dropped from the Sword Demon himself, they couldn’t use.
Never seen such a poor Boss.
When Lind met Melulan again, she was like a Queen draped in a blood-soaked gown, exuding the aura of a 4-ring power, possibly even stronger in a Burst? He doubted it.
