Chapter 620: Chapter 478 Chain Quests
With wave after wave of slaughter, the entire world seemed to plunge into a frenzy of war—especially on the Enstad Continent where the competition between the "Alliance" and the "Black Knight" factions was most intense.
In contrast, other continents were somewhat quieter; even if there were conflicts, they were trivial, to the extent that even Undead would ignore the red names of their enemies and cheerfully trade with each other.
This was all a game; except for a few short-sighted individuals, most people still hoped for mutual benefit and enjoyment—that was what mattered most.
Black Marsh Kingdom, an isolated island.
Melulan dragged the body of the "Progenitor" across a dwarf slope soaked with blood, while several crows with extended wings circled in the sky, hesitating to land, for fear of giving the Progenitor a chance to resurrect.
Once the slaughter began, apart from Melulan, no one else was permitted to approach.
A Black Knight in fearsome armor appeared not far away, and Melulan at first failed to recognize the figure; neither the shape of the armor nor the heavy Abyss Aura about it resembled Lind Armand in the slightest.
Only when he removed his mask, revealing a rugged and handsome face with golden hair swaying in the wind, did she recognize him.
"I thought you were in Thousand Faces City."
Lind, holding his helmet in his arms, walked toward Melulan. His eyes glanced at the Black Law Bloodsucking Queen but intentionally overlooked the "living thing" that she was relentlessly clutching and tearing apart.
"Is your business finished?" Melulan knew he had gone to Magic Land in search of knowledge.
"Plans never seem to keep up with changes."
Lind hadn’t been able to go to Sky Star Magic School; however, he had managed to gather most of the knowledge he needed, such as the Mechanical God Cult, the Beastmaster, the Waste Stone Mountain range, including the secrets and treasures obtained from the many ruins and the guidance given to the Undead-led Newbie Village. To return after more than a year with so much was certainly a fruitful venture.
"Did you come back to find me for something?"
"About the trip to Magic Land."
The two had agreed a long time ago; in fact, their relationship was quite subtle, starting from the moment Melulan shared the giant eye with Lind, the Giants, the Sea of Death Flowers, among other things, resembling a sort of soul resonance, an indescribable and absolute trust.
Upon reuniting, they could sense that this trust remained unbreakably strong.
It was as if... they had together peeked at the greatest secret of the world, bound aboard the same warship.
The "main storyline" had to be located on the Xilu Continent, and more specifically, within the Rand Kingdom, to ensure his own base of operations. Previously, Lind did not possess the ability to do so and thus his first instinct was to keep a low profile. Now that he had a "name and title," he certainly needed to change strategies.
He looked down at what Melulan was dragging. In just a moment’s time, the Progenitor’s flesh had regrown wildly, not only had the wound healed, but the eyes also regained their luster, showing no sign of fatigue.
Lind reached out and grabbed the Bloodline Ancestor, his other hand already gripping the Soul Blade.
The fully recovered Progenitor scratched frantically at Lind’s armor, barely managing to tear out a few scratches but unable to inflict the slightest harm on Lind’s body.
The Soul Blade gently pressed against the Progenitor’s brow, slowly piercing in.
Melulan’s gaze followed the azure Soul Blade, watching it penetrate deep into the Progenitor’s head. The creature capable of resurrecting under combined magical and physical attacks now trembled slightly in its body.
When Lind released his grip, the Progenitor lay on the ground like a rotten piece of meat.
The Soul Blade was powerful enough to obliterate the Abyss, let alone a monster that relied on blood to resurrect incessantly.
Melulan marveled at the transformation in Lind’s strength. Perhaps he could have managed this in the past, but it certainly wouldn’t have been so effortless, to dispatch an enemy she had struggled against for months with just a flick of his wrist?
Only William, observing from afar, found this perfectly normal.
Merely a 4th-tier being, and without its own consciousness relying solely on instinct, in a real fight, it probably wasn’t much different from a 3rd-tier. It would have been truly strange if Lind couldn’t kill it instantly.
But Melulan’s gaze soon returned to the Progenitor’s body; she could not comprehend the extent of Lind’s power, nor could she fathom how he could easily annihilate an entire country by himself, or effortlessly slaughter deities that had once required twenty or thirty thousand Undead to march to their deaths to overcome.
The flesh of the Progenitor, at that moment, was of the greatest help to her.
"What can I do for you?" Melulan offered.
Lind: "Make people speak of the Black Knight again."
The Black Knight had only appeared once before, and very few people actually remembered him. Most were just guessing.
Perhaps a fragmented story could be more captivating?
Anyway, Lind didn’t really care about telling a good story; his aim was simply to lead the Undead to believe that the "Black Knight" was a faction, not a boss that had to be killed. That would be a success.
"How long do you need to absorb it?" Lind asked as he looked at the "Progenitor" on the ground, referring to Melulan.
He was aware of the source of Melulan’s power: limb grafting.
For Melulan to gain the Progenitor’s abilities, she would still need limb grafting. But it wasn’t as simple as chopping off an arm and replacing it with another; it required replacing the entire bloodline from the inside out, while also ensuring her sense of self.
"A few nights," Melulan replied, looking at Lind. "With your help," she added.
Lind: "Of course, I will help you. But when you are successful, the unveiling of the veil should not be by my hand."
He already had ideas forming in his mind about the Black Knight, Melulan, and even entangling them with the Rand Kingdom. After all, there were many ways to create such links; the simplest being a slip of the tongue about "Melulan" during a time when he unwittingly faced the "Abyss Torture."
