Chapter 606 - 471: The Black Knight’s Secret Mission

Chapter 606: Chapter 471: The Black Knight’s Secret Mission

Karydel Cloud Crown had returned to her own body, this time her experience traversing the void had shattered her furthest-reaching record ever, and when she opened her eyes, she couldn’t help but let out a pained moan. The reintegration of her spirit and body after a long separation was either too much for her mortal frame to bear, due to the excess of energy in the void, or for some other reason, but the swelling of her body made her feel extremely uncomfortable.

She slowly stretched her body, quietly waiting for it to adapt and recover, before she began to move her limbs. A numbness had overtaken one of her thighs, as if it had become completely detached from her body and was no longer perceptible. Pain seared through her muscles like flames as she carefully got up and gently pressed her fingers against her thigh.

Her fingers softly traced over the long and smooth thigh.

Her eyebrows also furrowed slightly with pain.

Karydel turned her gaze to the sheepskin scroll on the table, which contained many records about the Undead. She had expended a great deal of energy in dealing with them, never anticipating that the Abyss’s invasion would be so terrifying, easily crushing the Cloud Crown Kingdom’s years of management.

Now, the remaining number of Undead was small and not skilled in combat, yet what was worse: before this foray into the void, she had visited the Kingdom of Trees and seen tens of thousands of Undead!

That massive Black Knight’s underground tomb weighed heavily on Karydel’s heart, making it hard for her to breathe.

She supported her body and walked toward the table, her brow furrowing even more due to the movement straining her muscles, knowing if she traversed the void like this again, there would be nothing but a dead end waiting for her.

She forced herself to sit at the desk and picked up a pen, recording everything she had seen. With the Abyss having amassed tens of thousands of Undead, their plan was certainly no small matter, and having witnessed the power of the Undead, she couldn’t help but worry. Could the Cloud Crown Kingdom truly withstand that force?

That dark, substantial mass of the Undying Legion, radiating strong malice—tens of thousands of high-ranking Transcendents— who could stop them?

Knock, knock.

The sound of knocking at the door echoed.

"Come in," Karydel said without pausing her pen, knowing that only her closest maids could be knocking on her door, which meant it had to be something urgent.

"Your Highness, Princess, His Majesty asks for you," came the message.

"It is already late," she observed, glancing out the window.

The Cloud Crown Kingdom, in an attempt to retain the Undead, had constructed the entire nation like a fairytale, with rolling green lawns, houses that were low but elaborately adorned, and even the clouds in the sky often dipping low to touch the ground.

The night scenery was likewise enchanting, with Bards singing in the small squares, everyone leisurely enjoying this world, a stark contrast to the apocalypse, as if a fairytale illusion had been deliberately crafted.

"Alright, I will make a visit," said Karydel, feeling her leg’s numb and painful sensation gradually easing.

As she passed through the castle’s corridors and approached the King’s study, she hadn’t even spoken when she heard him say, "Karydel, look at these."

"What are these?" Karydel asked, looking at the thick stack of papers on the table.

"It’s the Undead; they hope we can initiate an offensive attack to subdue the Black Knight," Gareth eked out a smile with difficulty.

Rumored to have the strength to destroy the Kingdom of Trees single-handedly, he didn’t believe the Cloud Crown Kingdom had any chance of victory.

"No!" Karydel shook her head, "I’ve just been to the Black Knight’s underground tomb through traversing the void!"

She conveyed what she had witnessed, and Gareth found his forced smile difficult to maintain.

For the weaker side to provoke the stronger deliberately was indeed a path to certain death.

"Is there anything special about that Black Knight Underground Graveyard?"

"I was worried about being discovered by the Black Knight, so I didn’t dare get too close," Karydel replied, shaking her head.

The malice of those tens of thousands almost engulfed her like a tidal wave, and she could still feel the terrifying spiritual power within them, the strong malevolence from the Abyss impossible to ignore.

"This..."

Gareth actually understood what the Undead meant; they seemed to enjoy a leisurely development but also favored "missions." With the clandestine contact provided by Karydel, he had figured out what the missions implied and how to issue them, and he even understood what kind of rewards the Undead preferred.

The Undead now aspired to take the initiative to attack the Black Knight’s underground tomb, their exact purpose unclear for the moment, but one thing was certain: they certainly seemed intent on "carrying out a mission" once again.

They were very fond of accomplishing missions along the way, and the Kingdom of Trees was very distant.

With that in mind, Gareth turned to Karydel and shared his thoughts, receiving her agreement.

"The Undead’s march toward the Black Knight’s underground tomb cannot be stopped," concluded Karydel. "They will definitely go..."

The Black Knight’s bizarre and incomprehensible corrupting power made her begin to worry.

Allowing the Undead to proceed might just hand them over to the opposition.

Suddenly, Gareth said, "This afternoon, when I was sleeping, I felt the call of the Cloud Giants."

"What!" Karydel’s beautiful amber eyes widened, her eyelashes trembling lightly, "The Cloud Giants are back?"

"Perhaps it’s an opportunity," Gareth nodded, "We can pray to the Cloud Giants again, hoping for their return."

"Let’s pray now!" Karydel was even more urgent than he was.

It was a critical moment for life and death.

The same situation was not only taking place in the Cloud Crown Kingdom but at Raven’s Nest Cliff, Salt Alkali Plain, and even spreading across the entire Enstad Continent, and then to the Xilu and Serylin Continents, where similar scenarios were unfolding.
