Chapter 576: Chapter 453 Underground Specters_2
The cat with hands on hips suddenly stopped talking, giving Lind a disdainful look when he looked over.
He asked one more question.
"Let’s follow them and see before we make a move."
Today was definitely a day for robbery, the opposing side looked intimidating by numbers, but their strongest was only equivalent to a William.
...
Nur leaned on his cane as he walked in front, as the gods receded and vanished, the influence of those who adhered to the Mechanical God Cult gradually crumbled.
Unlike other factions, the Mechanical God Cult was extremely strict in selecting members and required very high mental standards; ordinary Wizards couldn’t meet their standards, and some could even see the true nature of the elements of Magic World the moment they opened their eyes.
They were natural Mages, and each of them was very adept at research and learning, which was the only way they had a chance to join the Mechanical God Cult.
This resulted in an extremely low population in the Mechanical God Cult, with talent affecting many people.
But as the order fell apart and the various sects clashed due to differing principles, the Mechanical God Cult ended up like scattered refugees, joining other factions in Magic Land in small groups or heading to other Material Planes.
Nur was an old soldier; some called him Iron Lump, others called him a heartless monster. After the Calamity emerged, he was referred to as the Mechanical Calamity, but Nur ignored these voices. He had long chosen to abandon human lowly emotions and pursued a greater goal.
Nowadays, the only ones in his team who could be called "members of the Mechanical God Cult" were he and another Iron Lump. Compared to Nur, who was mostly human still, the other had not only discarded human emotions but had also discarded the human body, achieving transcendence in both spirit and body.
Their faces, forged like steel cheeks burning in Furnaces, emitted the sounds of magic when they opened their mouths, which could spread without relying on air and seemed to appear right next to your ear when speaking.
However, Nur didn’t like the way the other spoke, probably because the human part of him resisted.
The remaining soldiers, though dressed in various mechanical armors, were neither disciples of the Mechanical God Cult nor belonged to any sect. Proud sects would rather perish than share their teachings with those less powerful.
They were just a group of pitiful creatures who had severed arms and legs, replaced organs, etc., to pursue transient power, lacking any lofty ideals.
"Nur, how much longer?"
"We should reach there once we cross this ridge."
Nur gazed at the landscape ahead, feeling an intense hatred for the sights around the Wilderness Ruins. His human heart pounded wildly, yet his companion beside him remained calm and untired.
They had argued about transcending the body before; it wasn’t that Nur didn’t want to transcend completely, but his talent limited him.
The sky seemed dyed a yellow-brown by the ground, looking oppressively dark but still illuminated, making it difficult to darken completely, yet oppressively weighing on one’s heart.
In the distance, elongated stalagmites crowded but upon closer inspection, this was actually the wreckage of an abandoned building.
Nur adjusted his breathing, waiting for the sound of heartbeat pounding to slowly fade from his ears.
...
Far behind the Mechanical God Cult, three men and a cat were also climbing another ridge.
"The sound really pumps up the blood." William scratched his white wolf head, "The ’thumping’ keeps pounding; I almost lost control of my killer instinct."
He turned his head to Lind who then said, "It’s okay, you don’t need to control it."
Among them, except for Beastmaster being less powerful, Lind and Tione could beat William with just one hand.
"This is a war drum."
Lind’s mood was slightly affected too, but he quickly regained his composure. His power was much stronger than that of the drummer, so he was not influenced at all.
Taking another look at Tione, her expression was calm.
Indeed, she wouldn’t be affected; she was never quite normal emotionally to begin with.
Having followed these people for a while, Lind confirmed that they were indeed not targeting the Undead, as news of the disappearance of the Undead had not yet spread.
The team from the Mechanical God Cult had started moving again, crossing mountains, and some of its members had already lost control and quickened their pace toward the mountains ahead.
Their sudden movement had left the two most special ones trailing behind.
"Both individuals are not weak," Lind glanced at William and assessed internally, "Based solely on aura, the half ’Iron Lump’ has about the strength of two Williams, and a full ’Iron Lump’ has the strength of three Williams."
William, upon being looked at by Lind, immediately understood what Lind meant and said, "My lord, if we continue forward, we will enter the territory of the Underground Specters."
Lind immediately took out a map he had acquired, which included territories and villages in the Land of Beasts recorded by the beast merchants from their travels, and updated with each business trip by the caravans, maintaining fairly good timeliness.
It included the Underground Specters that Lind had previously tried to get the Undead to contact.
He also had Ghost Selena by his side.
"Do you know about the Far East Magic School?" Lind suddenly remembered and casually asked the Beastmaster.
"I’ve never heard of it," the Beastmaster answered without thinking, "With so many Material Planes, isn’t it normal to not have heard of some magic school?"
It’s normal to say that, but using a biped Flying Dragon as a means of transport is not very normal.
Much like Magic Land being considered an advanced map, yet here in this place, a Tier 3 Ring Mage can be called strong, and Tier 2 Ring Mage still has a chance to emerge, certainly not to be reduced to pulling vehicles.
"How about the Far East continent?"
"Never heard of it."
While the man and beast were chatting idly, William by their side suddenly exclaimed.
Lind turned his head and saw that the scenery ahead had abruptly changed. What used to be a series of low ridges had become an enormously wide and thick mountain range that joined with the black and yellow sky.
Recalling why he hadn’t seen such tall mountains when they arrived, Lind turned around and saw that they had unknowingly entered a huge downward basin, as if walking into a Bronze Furnace Hotpot, where the mountain ranges ahead seemed to block out the sky, but they were actually staying in a recessed area.
"This place was once a battleground," Lind crouched down and swept the dirt with his palm, revealing the stone wall debris underneath his feet, carved with patterns, which he believed once belonged to a powerful civilization.
When he turned to look at the Beastmaster again, the latter simply shook his cat head.
When unsure, pretend not to hear, so as not to lose face as the Beastmaster.
After walking a bit farther, following far behind the Mechanical God Cult’s group, Lind hadn’t expected that those who had been walking faster and faster gradually slowed down, and even knelt down, with only the two most special ones still standing.
"Those must be the Ghosts, right?" William said.
Phantom figures began appearing in the mountains, draped in pale purple robes and breastplates, holding Longswords, spears, shields, with armor adorned with winding long horns resembling rhinoceros beetles stretching backward, their equipment looking like some kind of ritual procession.
"They are Ghosts, but it seems like they don’t intend to fight," Lind nodded.
He knew of the existence of Underground Specters from rumors among his neighbors, but what they actually looked like could only be inferred from hearsay; now, seeing the unusual calmness between the two groups, Lind suppressed his doubts.
Just keep watching.
Then those Ghosts just quietly watched the people from the Mechanical God Cult setting up various ritual items, building altars, and arranging Magic Circles, truly not interfering with each other.
"My lord?" William looked at Lind again, his voice knocking on Lind’s rising battle spirit at that moment.
"Hold on."
If they were summoning the Evil God, Lind wouldn’t think twice; he’d turn and run, but if not, he was curious to see what these supposed believers of the Mechanical God Cult intended to do and then take care of them all in one fell swoop.
Suddenly, the entire "Bronze Furnace Hotpot" began to shake.
Something was coming.
