Chapter 410: Chapter 347: Internal Test 2.02 Update
[The "Doomsday Magic Ring" beta version 2.02 update is now live, introducing an Affection system. You can now create more interactions with NPCs through your social skills.]
The official announcement was always succinct.
But Lind’s expression wasn’t so great. If there was an "Affection" feature, many things would become transparent.
And the situation was almost as he had anticipated.
When he returned to Goliath, he saw a group of Undead striking poses.
And by striking poses, they really meant it.
Some players, clearly controlling female characters, were wiping windows in front of the soldiers.
Other male characters were launching charm offensives on the females.
Not to mention the face customization – nothing could compare to the Undead, charmers from the Metaverse with their handsome guys and beautiful ladies showing off their allure.
From Altolia to a scruffy-bearded King Arthur, beauty and handsomeness were abundant. Not to mention them, sometimes even Lind would get confused when such a group stood before him.
Of course, his heart was as hard as steel.
Lind appeared on the main streets of the Royal City of Goliath. As time went by, the effect of Lind’s significant reinforcement from soldiers in other regions to support Goliath was evident. Most of the "Noble Estate copies" had been cleared.
The Undead began to revise their strategies and shifted towards a more efficient and quick style of combat, completely abandoning the long wind-ups and cooldowns, and started to compensate for their lack of skills with weaponry.
As a result, Lind’s Lion Slash was once again pushed as an essential melee skill. Zero-frame startup, no wind-up – who used it knew its worth.
The Wizards weren’t standing still either. Because Lind had only provided "Barrier" as a Magical option for weapon crafting, they turned to Alchemical Tools, creating one-time use alchemical arrows, bombs, etc. This led to a distorted Mage profession, where a new patch equated to more spending.
But spending money was also a form of elegance.
Mages longed for elegance.
Every Undead Wizard pushing instances in the Royal City had mastered a graceful close-combat technique that could easily keep thugs and refugees at bay.
The city was regaining its peace, with only Lady Druidis, the female marquis, lingering. The once holy grinding ground was now left only to her.
Lind’s sudden appearance on the street caught the attention of a large crowd.
To say that Lind was the most popular NPC in the game of "Doomsday Magic Ring" might not be quite accurate because most people had only seen videos featuring Lind. Most players lost interest in learning more after discovering that the characters in the game had little to do with their own region.
The world wasn’t just comprised of the Rand Kingdom. Similarly, there certainly were NPCs with performance not inferior to Lind, although not as much the "favorite child."
Each country, even the Undead from different worlds, had their own gaming circles and styles.
However, narrowing it down to the Rand Kingdom, Lind’s popularity was indeed the highest.
After the introduction of the Affection system, the first thought of the Undead was to farm affection points. Never mind its use – just farm it!
And then Lind saw an Archer with a face that could be mistaken for the Elven Prince Legolas standing right before him.
"My lord! Is there anything I can assist you with?"
"No."
Lind was expressionless. He hadn’t felt the Undead putting anything on him, nor was it Scouting Magic, or anything of the sort.
His senses were incredibly "dull." In terms of Spiritual Power, many Wizards had said that even though he was not a Wizard, he was on par with them.
More and more Undead gathered around him.
As more people arrived, Lind was encircled layer by layer, clogging the entire road.

"I’m disliked?"
"Me too!"
"Move away, move away, brothers!"
What’s this all about?
The crowd automatically dispersed, and Lind was quite surprised.
"Reputation can actually be gamed like this?" He had caught on to a key point.
...
[!! How I ascended to the upper echelons of the Salamander Faction by gaming reputation, and even got a wife]
A post from an Undead named Still Stubborn released a strategy video, sparking a massive gathering of other Undead viewers.
After the reputation system update, a slew of enthusiastic Undead started gaming their reputation, but the results were contrary to what they had imagined.
Very few actually managed to boost their reputation; instead, many ended up with infamy, and some were even expelled and hunted in other regions for their sleazy behavior.
"Before the reputation system update, I actually noticed a problem, infamy is related to factions. If you are identified as a hostile force, it’s basically impossible to get rid of the infamy, of course, you can also deceive by hiding your identity unless an NPC checks your face with a warrant. This post won’t dive into the issue of infamy, we’re only talking about reputation.
Besides, infamy is also related to personal behavior. If you steal, attack people, or kill someone, those with vested interests will see you as an enemy. When I was completing missions for the Salamander Faction, I was constantly viewed as an enemy because of faction-related reasons. Once I followed orders to save a family of three, and they actually cursed at me. I couldn’t take it and chopped down their whole family, only to find that those who regarded me as an enemy didn’t dare to act, knowing they couldn’t beat me. But some who were hostile toward me actually cleared my infamy!
That’s right, if you can grasp the interpersonal relationships of NPCs, by helping them eliminate their enemies, you can improve your relationship with them, and they might even see you as a great benefactor.
If there are no laws where you are, you even won’t be officially wanted, but I don’t recommend doing so.
I believe that before the update, reputation actually existed as a baseline code, it’s just that this time it was made visible right in front of our faces.
There are a few NPCs in the Salamander Faction whose personalities really match with mine, we often go to bars to drink together. After the reputation update, I went to see these few friends and found that their reputation for me was all over 90!
What does over 90 mean? If I choose to betray the Salamander Faction, they might consider whether to join me or help me escape. In any case, they definitely won’t expose me! There’s even one who wants to marry me.
A female NPC wants to marry me! Though she’s average-looking, she’s always been my sugar mama. Hearing this, are you guys excited? Sadly, I have to tell you that the pants can’t come off. In the end, I’ll post her picture to satisfy everyone’s curiosity. By the way, although I can’t take my pants off, she can. The rest is left to your imagination."
"After saying so much, let’s talk about the method. Actually, the specific way has been mentioned in the previous content, doing things they enjoy. But this method is too slow; you have to investigate an NPC’s preferences. Don’t think that people become stupid in a post-apocalyptic world, investigating someone frantically can easily raise their alertness, and might even backfire and lead to infamy directly."
"So the real efficient way to boost reputation is to make a name for yourself! I know what I’m saying might sound a bit abstract, but this is the fast track to boosting reputation. As long as you make a splash and become a hero, when you interact with NPCs, they’ll gaze at you with admiration, and here NPCs don’t discriminate between genders, everyone worships heroes!
If you’re into some heavy tastes... I suggest you don’t do that because if your behavior crosses an NPC’s bottom line, they will turn on you instantly.
Also, don’t investigate the reputation directly in front of someone you have a high reputation with, especially when facing powerful NPCs, as it will definitely drop your reputation! But if it’s a common or hostile target, it’s not an issue. I suggest using it casually when the conversation is pleasant. It’s like a very attacking gaze; using it in a lively atmosphere won’t cause negative effects."
"In the end, a word of advice, regardless of whether you are a female or male player, remember to be faithful in relationships, or else you can only... sigh."
In the end, Still Stubborn uploaded a photo.
A female warrior with strong facial features. To say she is beautiful, indeed, her features are quite proper, but if there’s a flaw to point out, it’s that her "sweetheart" comes with an invisibility effect when the lights go out.
The comments exploded: "I see you’re really hungry."
"It’s clear you’ve got a tough mouth, otherwise, this chocolate sweetheart wouldn’t be so into you."
"Might be your tongue is tough."
"I hope next time I understand math as fast as this."
What followed were some mundane shots from Still Stubborn. He had made a bit of a name for himself within the Salamander Faction, receiving greetings wherever he went, a stark contrast to the situation of most of the Undead.
Even when he found that someone didn’t like him, he began to do favors for them earnestly, brushing up on their reputation by target-specific deeds.
The funny thing was, when he was boosting the reputation of other female NPCs, his chocolate sweetheart’s reputation would drop.
To cling tightly to powerful allies, he had to restrain himself.
Not wanting to date in real life, so he sought cyber love in the game, only to find that darned cyber love wreaks havoc just the same.
Can’t have a harem, what’s the use of reputation then!
The comments were a mess.
"Lind! Your wife is mine now!"
"Lania, I’m coming!"
"Mico, I’m coming!"
"Brittany, I’m coming!"
"Tione, I’m coming!"
"Lind, I’m freakin’ coming!"
