Chapter 356: Chapter 301 "High-Difficulty" Task

Raven City had undergone massive changes in its game style since Lind’s arrival, with many rules and regulations forcibly altered.

Especially the military, which was restructured in the shortest time.

Undead were not allowed to join the army!

They could act as mercenaries, work by accepting quests, and earn rewards, but they could not be employed for long periods of time.

And it was impossible for them to attain certain positions in Raven City through their own efforts.

There were no complaints, though.

Life in the old Raven City was indeed harsh; awakening during the day, the undead had to remove their helmets to work and study like beasts of burden; at night, they had to put their helmets back on and patrol the city tirelessly.

It truly was a life of continuous toil in two different worlds.

And now, the "Lind Easy Mode" that the entire server had envied had finally come to their own doorstep; no matter how much they had criticized it before, now all they wanted to do was to quickly get their equipment and stats sorted and then start enjoying their carefree life in Another World with Magic.

In the past, wandering around Raven City for a whole day might not yield two quests, but now that Lind had arrived, all work was a quest!

The makeshift quest acceptance point was overcrowded.

A portion of the Rand Soldiers adept at distributing quests hadn’t taken off their armor and sat behind tables, checking and dispensing quests.

Riven Soldiers stood by their side.

They were cautious and tentative accompanying the Rand Soldiers, hesitating several times as if to speak, then opening and closing their mouths without uttering a word. In the end, they chose to remain silent and quietly learn beside them.

The number of undead in Raven City had already surpassed 500 and was still increasing. In another half month, the Rand Legion would have long departed, but the undead who had just rushed from all over would continue to pass through Raven City.

"Repairing roads?" one Riven Soldier asked, lacking confidence.

This was labor fit for drudges, considered low-status work in Raven City, and anyone with even a bit of cunning or skill would refuse to do such work.

Not to mention that all the undead before him were Great Knights, and despite the common disdain for the undead, ordinary soldiers still held a basic respect for Great Knights.

Yet the Rand Soldiers had presented this "road repair" work directly to the undead.

What the Riven Soldiers found even more inconceivable was that the undead actually accepted the task, and they seemed quite thrilled about it!

Nie Erxi accepted the highest difficulty mission to capture spies.

[Capture Spies: Many factions have infiltrated Raven City, and the Lord is willing to offer a substantial reward to find these sneaking bastards and capture them]

The mission was extremely difficult, with nothing more than a brief description in text, nothing else.

Not even the origin of the spies or their numbers were clear.

But the rewards were substantial.

After accepting the quest, Nie Erxi planned to visit the crowded market area to have a look around.

Raven City had no real planning, just areas that filled up before spilling over into another, and attracted all kinds of people from all walks of life, so catching spies amidst the chaotic crowd was as hard as climbing to heaven.

Nie Erxi had just entered when he was hit by the overwhelming stench of salted fish, causing his head to spin. He fanned the air with his hand, but stopped in his tracks when he looked toward the salted fish vendor.

[Black Island Spy, Level 8]

Red name!

He looked around again and found that nearly every vendor associated with seafood was sporting a red name.

[Black Island Spy, Level 5]

[Black Island Spies, Level 12]

"Damn it!" Nie Erxi Legend couldn’t help but blurt out.

The vendors looked at him blankly, and Nie Erxi Legend suppressed the excitement in his heart. Of course, he cursed aloud, "It stinks!"

The Black Island Spies revealed pleasing smiles.

[Fire Gecko Party Spies, Level 10]

[Swamp Mud Village Farmer, Level 3]

Red names, all hostile forces were red names!

So... this so-called "high-difficulty" mission, those spies, they couldn’t hide at all in front of the Undead!

He couldn’t be too direct, lest he startle the snakes, and he didn’t plan to call other Undead for help, he had to monopolize the mission reward first and give it a try alone.

Nie Erxi Legend stood in front of the [Swamp Mud Village Farmer] and asked, "Is this your first time in Raven City?"

He was still wearing the armor of a Riven Soldier, and the status of a Riven Soldier was very high. With Lind’s arrival, their status would only get higher.

The farmer answered honestly, "My lord, I arrived yesterday, but it took me over a month on the road. I used to live in the shanty area of Red Fortress."

"What do you sell?" Nie Erxi Legend squatted down; he wanted to claim the mission reward all for himself, but alone, he definitely wasn’t enough.

He had to use his wits.

"Sour fruit, plucked from mutant vines. It makes your body heat up and sweat when eaten, but it tastes very good!" The farmer said and even grabbed a piece to pop into his mouth to prove it was indeed edible.

Then the farmer continued, "I couldn’t find a proper job in Raven City, so I wanted to sell some for money."

"Hmm," Nie Erxi Legend nodded, "You came from Red Fortress?"

"Yes," the farmer nodded.

Clang!

Nie Erxi Legend suddenly drew his sword and placed it on the farmer’s shoulder. He demanded angrily, "You’re lying. I’ve seen this kind of fruit before; it grows in swamp fields! I used to live in the shanty area of Red Fortress. That place has long been a Calamity Shadow Region. Who are you exactly!"

"My, my lord, I really am..." The Swamp Mud Village Farmer’s knees buckled, and he knelt down, "I just heard that Raven City welcomes people who can’t survive, so I came. Ah, now that you mention it, I remember, indeed I harvested them from the swamp fields. I do come from the shanty area, perhaps a bit far from Red Fortress. You might not know, but there’s a campsite that was established somewhere else by the shanty area to avoid the Calamity."

The commotion here attracted the attention of surrounding vendors toward the scene.

"Hmph, I’ve never seen this kind of fruit before, and I’ve never been to the shanty area of Red Fortress." Who hasn’t watched a couple of TV series? Simple bluffing is definitely useful. Nie Erxi Legend was very certain, "So, you’re still lying!"

The farmer was confused, wondering why no matter what he said, he would always be judged as lying.

Nie Erxi Legend turned to a vendor nearby and shouted, "Right now, there are people infiltrating Raven City, trying to steal the highest secrets of the Lord and the Golden Throne!"

He turned to look at those people.

The Golden Throne was the term the Undead used on forums, NPCs wouldn’t understand what that meant.

One by one, the red-named spies leaned in closer.

If he had to identify them just by appearance, Nie Erxi Legend felt he couldn’t recognize a single one.

Just like the farmer before him, if it weren’t for the blood-red name above his head, based on the series of reactions just now, he would have really believed the other party’s explanation.

When someone suddenly kneels before you, imploring with tears, and seems honest and sincere, as a well-educated young person from the 21st century, it’s hard to keep pressing them.

But now, he wouldn’t soften.
