Chapter 347: Chapter 292 Battle Storyline: Golden Throne (10,000 words)_6

After the Main City opened, the Undead swiftly chose to leave, or head to other Newbie Villages, only these 12 Undead stayed behind.

They were determined to play a chaotic evil route in the game, intending to stop killing with killing, committing every conceivable atrocity.

Since all kinds of game styles exist, as long as the game rules allow it, it’s fair.

However, now they were starting to regret not leaving with the other Undead.

Unlike the NPCs’ blissful ignorance, some of them had quietly sneaked a peek when Rand Legion was encamped nearby, well in advance.

Then they saw them.

An almost boundless sea of red names...

...

’Pillar of Fire’ Reed paced back and forth anxiously; Lind’s army was encamped just tens of miles away, like a lion that had brought its mouth right up to one’s face.

"He won’t do anything to us," persuaded Anna at his side.

Anna, she was the Pharmacist from Avenho.

As ’Pillar of Fire’ Reed’s consort, she shared many common points with him, and the fact that they could cooperate up to now was enough to show that they were well matched in their depravity.

Even many of the hanging corpses outside were her handiwork.

"You don’t understand," Reed shook his head, increasing his pacing around the room.

It was night, and it was very likely they would run into Calamity if they fled now, and even if Calamity wasn’t waiting for them, the outcome might not be favorable; it was hard to see the roads in the darkness.

"He and Raven City signed a peace treaty," Anna said, not quite understanding. Having signed a peace treaty, it was impossible for both sides to wage war—Avenho was also considered a village under Raven City’s jurisdiction.

"You mentioned a treaty, it can always be torn up," he replied.

The peace treaty, that thing’s only use was probably that it was useless, and as far as Reed knew, Raven City had already begun an arms race as soon as Lind announced an attack on Goliath.

It wasn’t Lind who needed to worry about Raven City, but the people of Raven City who needed to be afraid of Lind.

And Lind might not actually destroy a village outright; it was more likely he would hang ’Pillar of Fire’ Reed and then rule over the place.

A minor accidental friction would ensure that Raven City wouldn’t dare say anything.

"Why are you so afraid of him, are you planning to become his enemy?" Anna suddenly realized something and thought it to be unreasonable, as if a mouse were baring its teeth to a lion.

Yet ’Pillar of Fire’ Reed suddenly stepped out of the room, the night trembling, with faint specks of light stabbing through in the distance.

A thunderous rumbling noise.

The heart finally returned to the stomach, the unease gone, because fear and flames had already attacked the front of Avenho, opening their bloody maws wide, attempting to swallow everyone.

’Pillar of Fire’ Reed, with a whip in his hand, stood atop the town’s wall.

He attempted to shout, but a barrage of arrows forced him to shut up and then hide behind cover.

"Attack!"

The walls of Avenho were low; as a village, defensive power wasn’t crucial for them. Even after the appearance of Calamity, they had only symbolically fortified the walls.

It was too late to seek help; Avenho could not even save itself.

Hiding behind the crenellations, an Aivenho soldier raised his crossbow to fire back but was met with a precise arrow that pierced right through his palm.

"Prepare for the siege!" boomed Lance’s deep, roaring voice. His blood was racing, Lord’s promise of their return to Goliath was about to be fulfilled.

The excitement of fulfilling this obsession was enough to empower anyone.

"First squad, crossbowmen, fire to suppress!"

"Second squad!" Lance’s shouting continued, "Pick up your weapons, to the siege!"

The scene was chaotic in sound, but the battle was well-organized.

The barrage of arrows prevented the Aivenho from raising their heads above the walls, while the Great Knights, one by one, took their pickaxes to the base of the walls, a sieging technique unique to them.

In their hands, the pickaxes were like spider forelegs, pulling their bodies up swiftly; halfway up the wall they would drive in the nails and throw down ropes.

This was faster than setting up a siege ladder. In just a little more than a dozen breaths, the first Great Knight had already charged onto the wall.

And then the second.

More and more followed.

With the wall overtaken, the Great Knights rampaged along its length.

The entire battle lasted no more than half an hour before Aivenho was taken.

Lance’s siege squad had no casualties, while on the enemy side, apart from ’Pillar of Fire’ Reed, a group of soldiers who had surrendered early or were gravely injured, there were only 12 Undead who had died and been resurrected, now captured.

...

"So, the person more popular than me is Teacher Lind?"

While the fight raged outside, Lind was leisurely browsing the official website.

He had stumbled upon a video that left him laughing and speechless.

The "Most Popular Game Characters" list updated with each issue. No one knew who started it first, but clearly, there were many competitors in this race, and a big review was always a popular side dish to people’s meals.

Just like the Poster Girl roundup or the most popular NPC list, where female characters always occupied the top ranks.

Wen Ruien, Lania, Tao Lexi, and so on, their beautiful appearances and distinctive personalities made them easy to remember at first sight.

Lind’s ranking wasn’t very high, but he consistently held a place on the list.

However, the one who appeared just above him was "Red Spirit Lind," affectionately known by the Undead as "Teacher Lind."

For most of the Undead, their first real hardship began with "Teacher Lind."

During this time, a large number of Undead grew stronger, yet the Fox Hole remained uncleared, largely because multitudes of "Teacher Linds" appeared on the village streets, staring vacantly, not scattered around but grouped together in bunches.

When the Undead approached, the dazzling area damage would engulf them in an instant.

Thus, the nickname "Teacher Lind" was born.

Whether it was the Hunter Society or related gear, it had become a less important part of Lind’s development. No game truly makes beautiful skins the main gameplay; they’re simply small enhancements to the already present features.

The norm was for a large number of Undead to be compelled to pursue the improvement of their stats due to the game’s experience.

Even lifestyle players must master combat skills.
