Chapter 302: Chapter 256 There is a Path Here
My ring of old acquaintances from past battles won’t let me down. Technically reliable, and trustworthy in character.
Most importantly, this group of people had all successfully advanced, and their equipment had at least Enchantment, belonging to the Tier 1 category.
They mounted their Catastrophe Warhorses and set off from Star Dragon City to the south, circling around. During the journey they stopped to rest and reorganize in Cazhen Town, where they inadvertently attracted a group of curious new Undead.
Especially after seeing the Catastrophe Warhorses, a large number of Undead were drooling with envy.
There were also some old Undead who couldn’t suppress the urge to show off. They whistled, and immediately a bald, strange bird swooped down from above.
The old Undead caught the strange bird by the claws, and amidst the Newbies’ exclamations of "Damn, it can fly?" "Holy crap, glider wings!" "Zelda!" they slowly flew up to the rooftops of Cazhen Town.
What awaited them there were not cries of awe and envious gazes, but the arrows of Cazhen Town Soldiers aiming right at them.
The town area was a no-fly zone; except for the Lord’s Flying Dragon, anyone else daring to fly was to be shot down.
After a minor incident, they set off again, and after some time, they finally reached the Snake People Outpost.
The long and tedious journey made them complain, but the game always maintained its "realism".
However, the scene before them left them utterly astonished. The once tightly defended Snake People Outpost had become ruins, the lifeless land unable to heal the wounds inflicted by the Magic Flames of war, with the scars of battle still clearly visible.
"What exactly happened in this one year that we’re unaware of?"
Other games might just add a few events to signify an update, so why does "Magic World" seem like we Undead have truly disappeared for a year?
The Undead entered the territory, looking at the scorched earth as if they themselves were amidst that horrifying sea of flames.
"It’s a dragon!" an Undead exclaimed.
They had witnessed Flame Tumor Alex’s fire-breathing ability and, connecting it to the previous Lord’s commands, it wasn’t hard to imagine a course of events.
"Does that mean Lind and the Snake People Outpost had a conflict?"
"If Lind appeared in the central region, it must have been a conflict, or maybe he just cut right through?"
"Let’s go check out the prison boss!"
When the Undead, dragging along Catastrophe Monster Birds, gradually flew to the top of the mountain one after another, they found that the prison too was completely desolate, with all ten bosses missing.
The once oppressive prison cells were left with nothing but corner spiders diligently spinning webs.
They glided around on the Volcano Monster Birds, speeding up their exploration by more than several times.
Soon, they discovered a field of swords standing upright in the ground ahead.
Who knows how much time had passed, but the area around these swords was overgrown with serrated grass and other mutated plants, some swords entwined with thorny vines.
Upon closer inspection, each sword bore the marks of erosion from years of rain, snow, wind, and frost.
"This sword seems to have a name on it, Pang?"
"This one says ’Son of Ronan, Almet Flame Wing’."
"Looks like one of the ten bosses."
"Here’s another one, ’Dominic Nightfiend’."
"It looks like a gravestone, so does that mean all those bosses were killed by Lind, and he even erected markers for them?"
So what exactly happened in that one year.
Even those not interested in the storyline were scratching their heads in curiosity. They had come all pumped up for a fight, only to find out that all the bosses were already dead, which was incredibly frustrating.
It’s not just about curiosity, but also about the time cost of traveling.
Wait a minute, the Snake People Outpost has been destroyed, so if the Snake Catcher Fortress is also knocked out, does that mean they could head straight to the central region?
"Let’s keep moving forward," one of the Undead suggested.
"Yeah, it would be best to get straight through. One of my buddies finally snagged a spot for the beta test, only to end up in that damn Red Mushroom Village. Now he can’t even die if he wants to; he’s been locked up for several days. He told me if I don’t rescue him soon, he’s going to quit the game."
"Hahaha!" Everyone couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
Red Mushroom Village is definitely a newbie nightmare. The mayor of Newbie Village orders people to be captured without killing or letting them commit suicide, just keeping them locked up. The gaming experience is atrocious.
Of course, this also got them pretty excited.
"Break through directly and then go rescue him!" As veteran players, they had to save the newbies.
Their unity surpassed imagination.
Snake Catcher Fortress appeared ahead, like a colossal beast coiled in the way, blocking the north-south passage.
"Has this place been breached?" The Undead looked at the wide-open gates of Snake Catcher Fortress, which seemed completely unobstructed.
Despite appearances, the atmosphere around them gradually became uneasy.
They felt as if a powerful oppressive force was gripping their hearts, especially those Undead who heightened their senses. It felt even clearer to them; the air seemed to thicken.
Ahead, there was something truly terrifying!
"If we go in and take a look, we’ll know," they said.
Although Lind ordered no one to approach Snake Catcher Fortress, ironically, the very rules for us Undead are to ignore all rules. Places off-limits are exactly where we want to go. Even if the path is bugged, we’ll cram through.
The Undead mounted on their Catastrophe Warhorses and approached the grand gates of the Snake People Outpost when, in a split second,
the air suddenly erupted with a thunderous "boom."
An enormous arrow flew in, smashing into the ground like a sledgehammer, tossing up clods of earth.
Then a rain of dirt and pebbles came clattering down on their armor, making a dense racket.
The arrow that had struck the ground was more like a spear, firmly nailed in place.
Their very first step into the Snake Catcher Fortress was met with obstruction. The Undead couldn’t even reach the gate before being enveloped by a barrage of arrows.
Especially when those massive arrows flew in and skewered three Catastrophe Warhorses together like candied haws, the Undead finally got the message.
The first wave of Undead gathered together, completely wiped out.
There wasn’t much experience to glean from the failure, this path was simply impassable.
"Why do I feel there’s something off about this place?"
"Indeed. You wouldn’t need arrows that big for defense, would you?"
"I’ve got a feeling those arrows were made to guard against one person... a person riding a dragon."
All the Undead had the vision of someone in their minds, especially since the Snake People Outpost seemed to have been scorched by Dragon Fire, the scorched earth, and Lind’s attitude—it all pointed to Lind being involved.
Maybe Lind had already been to Snake Catcher Fortress, and something had transpired between him and those inside.
But the NPCs were collectively enigmatic, leaving them no clear vulnerabilities to exploit.
Even though they couldn’t get close to Snake Catcher Fortress, the Undead didn’t give up exploring.
"This isn’t reality anyway, the game wouldn’t set up a level that’s impossible to pass. There must be some spot we’ve overlooked!"
The Undead re-purchased Catastrophe Warhorses and Volcano Monster Birds. This time, they didn’t head straight to Snake Catcher Fortress but decided to look for a loophole. The fortress was huge; if they could just bypass the main gate’s concentrated fire and infiltrate inside, the rest would be easy.
It was a lengthy search, and many Undead chose to log off in the process. There was so much else they could do, so they opted not to waste their game and sleep time on a place "The Officials" explicitly prohibited.
The new card game released in the tavern was intriguing. They disdained card games in real life, but playing cards in Magic World—that was a whole different level of interesting.
The few Undead who persisted eventually found some clues.
"There’s a hidden path here!"
