Chapter 279: Chapter 233: Queen, but Poster Girl_4
The battle finally came to a halt, with some awakening from the melee and instinctively crouching with their heads in their hands.
Lind did not bother to explain anything to these people; he simply treated them as captives. They were disarmed and stripped of their armor, then lined up together.
The brutality inflicted on their comrades and the pain of their wounds made it clear to them just how fearsome this troop before them was.
The scorching hot wind was still lashing the Great Knights’ faces, but their hearts were utterly cold, having perceived the intentions of Lord Lind from the recent combat.
Lind did not care about the fate of the Great Knights from the market, nor did he have any intention of recruiting them for his own use.
Indeed, Lind could cultivate his own soldiers. He controlled an underground Calamity breeding farm and had his own Pharmacist’s Magic Potion production line. The Great Knights would become the most basic combat unit in the future.
Since they were the most basic, there was no need to forcibly extend an olive branch. If someone had raised a weapon against him, it was better to subdue them first.
The Snake People Outpost incident had enraged Lind enough to take it out on Mountain Demon Castle.
Thankfully, Lind’s emotions had stabilized by now.
He rushed back to the wedding scene, where the old priest was shaking with terror.
A few of the Great Knights from the marketplace were "protecting" Queen Rania. They seemed completely oblivious to the current situation and were somewhat bewildered when they saw Lind return until they noticed their colleagues being led back as captives and obediently dropped their weapons.
Threatening with the Queen? Who knew how familiar Lind was with the Queen? Moreover, according to Baya, wasn’t he supposed to be here to kill the Queen? Then the Queen was even less valuable as a bargaining chip.
Lind dismounted and strode towards Rania Hedwin. This must be the first real face-to-face meeting between them since her coronation.
Rania’s gaze fell on the Greatsword in Lind’s hands, still burning with flames, and watched as the flames died down to reveal the Broken Sword’s true form.
The flames extinguished, leaving only the high heat and wafts of white smoke.
Lind’s armor was splattered with fresh blood, yet not a single wound remained on him, marking a complete victory.
"You have mastered that kind of power?" Rania had many questions, such as why Lind had suddenly taken action at Mountain Demon Castle.
But she also knew that Lind had not come here to kill her.
Their "enmity" was more like embarrassing incidents from the past.
"You resisted the temptation," Lind looked at Rania, remarking that in the third year since the Ring of Magic had shattered, Rania had managed to resist being seduced by power.
Rania was also a Female Knight, skilled and battle-hardened.
The Rand Kingdom was indeed a warrior kingdom. To be admired by the soldiers of the second legion and lead the cavalry of the third legion, she had to be a Female General.
If Rania were not skilled in combat, she would not have been able to beat Lind soundly back then.
They both had secrets. Lind had the secret of accepting power without becoming twisted and mad, and Rania’s secret was her ability to resist the temptation of power.
"My rage was like magma, Baya schemed to distract me, costing the lives of many brothers," Lind offered a Knightly salute: "I am very sorry to have disturbed your wedding, and I am sorry for killing your fiancé."
"Tch," Rania couldn’t help but laugh out loud, her shoulders shaking with the force of it.
"Lind!" She suddenly raised her voice.
When Lind lifted his head to look at her, she said, "You came for revenge, correct?"
"Yes!" Lind grinned, showing his large pearly teeth: "I did it on purpose! To take revenge and turn you into a widow!"
Rania clenched her teeth, admitting that the guy before her was still as despicable as ever.
"How is Cote?" Lind inquired.
"He went mad, corrupted by power. He now controls Goliath," Rania managed to keep her expression in check, then looked at Lind and said, "I must return to Goliath, and you want to go back too, don’t you?"
Lind, however, did not respond but said, "I always wished it was you who died, Rania."
After realizing that Nobles could go mad, he had fantasized that the Great Prince would live well while Rania either went berserk or simply died.
"But now you must fight for me."
Rania slightly raised her chin, looking at Lind.
"Fight for you," Lind bowed.
And he added to himself: Having a Queen as a Poster Girl isn’t too bad, eh? I’ve already thought out the main plotline!
The Undead would undoubtedly be thrilled.
