Chapter 271: Chapter 230: Bloodshed_2
"You can understand my anger, Pim! Even if Miss Doris had merely misheard, I would still come here in search of that elusive answer," Lind’s voice was low, "And this is Her Majesty the Queen’s wedding, who else, other than me, do you think is worthy of entering this castle?"
Strikingly, the entire team was ready for battle yet tacitly treated "Her Majesty’s wedding" as a trivial matter.
Loyalty is hard to divide; now, they owed their allegiance not to the aloof Queen but to Lind, who fought alongside them.
But Pim was not ready to drop the hastily chosen topic: "You are a lord, and we are your spears; we should also eradicate all anger for you."
"I will handle my anger myself," Lind said, "Don’t think the worst. Maybe this is just a grand wedding. Straighten your face and follow me to see Her Majesty... and her future husband. Remember, we are soldiers of the Rand Kingdom."
Lind was well aware of the risks of entering Mountain Demon Castle voluntarily. As a Grand Lord, the castle gathered many Great Knights and soldiers, even surpassing the Snake People Outpost.
Yet, they failed to impose the same pressure on Lind as ten sons might have.
The present Great Knights were just ordinary Great Knights, without "noble titles" or "noble bloodlines"; they were too common.
The scene was a chaotic mess, which looked quite entertaining.
The Great Knights inside Mountain Demon Castle were clustered together, wearing mismatched armor of all styles, unkempt in appearance, everyone appraising something, bellowing loud cries like a marketplace.
"Hahaha!" A deliberately elongated laugh echoed from a distance.
A man stepped forward, and Lind did not wish to judge someone by his appearance, but Lord Baya’s looks were truly ordinary, which was somewhat disappointing to him.
He had thought that a knight capable of killing his own lord would be handsome, full of heroic charisma, or perhaps cunning, but it turned out he was just a man who had grown slightly portly with an improved standard of living.
His only feature vaguely reminiscent of a noble lord was his M-shaped balding hairline due to seborrheic hair loss.
And his strength was not formidable.
Lord Baya approached Lind: "Lord Lind, I am very grateful that you could attend my wedding to Her Majesty!"
"I am a knight of the Kingdom," Lind puffed out his chest, "Unfortunately, I have been stuck in the North and missed the opportunity to protect Her Majesty! I am grateful for everything you’ve done for Her Majesty... The state of the Kingdom is currently very poor."
He struggled to arrange his words, as Lind found it difficult to imagine a congratulatory speech for a wedding to a queen who had betrayed his lord and whom he personally disliked.
"But, hearing that you are overseeing a piece of land, and hearing that Her Majesty is alive, are indeed rare good news for me."
"Hahaha," Lord Baya looked up slightly at Lind, his eyes clearly admiring Lind’s imposing stature, and added, "It’s my duty, as a knight!"
"Your timing is perfect; today is the last day of the celebration. We shall watch a duel, have a feast, exchange rings before the gods, kiss, and then become man and wife."
"That scenario must be..." Lind tried to picture it, revealing a smile, "something to look forward to."
Lord Baya was overwhelmingly enthusiastic, seeing Lind and his formidable yet clearly battle-weary team as if they were injured dogs without a home, in need of his shelter.
"They are all Knights of Honor loyal to me," Lord Baya turned and introduced them.
The messy marketplace knights finally quieted down.
It was evident that they lacked any semblance of noble etiquette.
Lind nodded slightly, showing no intent to engage further with the so-called Knights of Honor, as any Great Knight could become a noble until the apocalypse indeed.
But now, they could merely serve to appease the people; becoming a Great Knight wasn’t so common yet, as long as one was daring enough to consume the Magic Potion.
As Lind followed Lord Baya away, the Knights of Honor began to chatter again.
"Noble? Pah! Who isn’t?" Someone, angered by being ignored by Lind, retorted.
Relying on luck and talent with the Magic Potion, they had become Great Knights living more comfortably in these end times, owning a sizable land, a large house, and women.
And there were provisions from Mountain Demon Castle, where all they needed to do was swear loyalty to Lord Baya and fight for him when war came.
Having gained all this, they would definitely join the battle for their benefit, even if Lord Baya didn’t say so.
However, if they had enough understanding, they would realize that there was another job with similar nature, known as: mercenary guards.
"That is indeed a Goliath noble," someone didn’t want to provoke Lind, seeing that his army did not look easy to deal with.
The rowdy team followed suit, the duel was about to start, and no one wanted to miss the show.
The arena was undoubtedly the most beloved form of entertainment, not just for nobles, merchants, ladies, even beggars, as everyone could get what they wanted from the death and bloodshed.
