Chapter 267: Chapter 228 Dark Night Orchard_2
The Scavenger also lunged forward, tensing the iron chain that restrained it.
Doris watched the scene quietly, certain that even her grandmother had never witnessed such a sight. It gave her an absurd feeling, as if she had become the "evil" side.
Those who command the great forces of Calamity are usually cast as the villains in stories, while the weaker side is typically the "protagonist."
The charge began, hooves crushing the rocky chaos of the valley; the undulating slopes could not hinder the warhorses’ advance.
She could only hear a thunderous rumble in her ears.
Doris soon saw only the glowing golden brilliance; they illuminated the black vine-covered shadows like true Sun Knights.
The air temperature became scorching, the vines curled from the intense heat.
Lind did not act immediately, seemingly prepared to honor his promise to protect Doris. Doris also believed he was absolutely not afraid.
"Are you scared?" she asked Lind, unable to help herself.
He had slung the Broken Sword over his shoulder, the pressure of it against his armor emanating a sense of oppression.
"Do you want me to tell the truth?" Lind asked.
"I hope you can tell the truth." But she feared that Lind might blurt out the word "scared," unsure of the repercussions of hearing their Lord admit to fear on a battlefield already in full charge. She was certain she’d be panicked, at least.
"No!"
Lind said, "If it’s just charging forward, there’s nothing to fear; there is no enemy in this world that cannot be defeated."
"Do you mean you can also be defeated?"
"Haha, I am often defeated," Lind said, "I didn’t become a Lord by being an undefeated War God."
"Then by what means?"
"Because I am not afraid of defeat."
The conversation seemed to hit a deadlock, and Doris did not enjoy this sort of atmosphere.
"Is there nothing that scares you?" She didn’t know how it happened, but the topic of conversation had suddenly shifted from the battle to what might scare Lind.
"I will kill whatever scares me."
"And those you can’t kill?"
"Then I’ll make them fear me."
Lind’s figure charged out, like a falcon, a lion, his Catastrophe Warhorse moving with such speed that it seemed to have been launched outright.
The Great Knights at the forefront had completely torn through the walls of the Dark Night Orchard. The currents of air from their charge brought a storm that utterly shredded the dark atmosphere of the orchard.
Nothing emerged, and the Dark Night Orchard seemed completely unguarded.
The Great Knight smashed through the manor’s gate, crushing heavily into the interior of the great hall.
All at once, surging black flames erupted, and alongside them, the Great Knight who had charged in was thrown back out, landing heavily on the ground, weapon released from his grip.
The chest plate of his armor was torn by the black flame’s blade, the wound burning with pitch-dark Flames.
The air carried an irritating scent of Flames.
Peel and Pim immediately charged in after, the black flame igniting, continuously flipping people out of the manor. That gate seemed to become an insurmountable chasm; anyone attempting to cross was overturned by the black flame.
Nearing the great hall of the manor, Lind leapt from the saddle, unfurling his Flame Wing behind him. He freely manipulated his abilities, including gliding with the Flame Wing.
His feet struck into the center of the great hall.
An abhorrent aura assaulted him head-on.
Immediately thereafter, pitch-dark flames.
The moment his body was entwined with flames, Lind’s body furiously resisted.
Pain!
The black flame burned at his spirit, but fortunately, Lind’s spirit and will were strong enough. He had endured too many agonies; he could withstand even flames coursing through his veins. He could withstand these pains just the same.
Then the Melting Furnace Crest began to absorb the flames; they could not harm Lind. It was just that the black flame was not merely flames; there was also a curse.
So, the Serpent Ring Emblem also actively flickered to life, leaving Lind unharmed. Instead, his body grew stronger under the influence of the curse.
The black flame engulfed Lind, leaving only a soul-deep stench and disgust, as well as some damage to his spirit.
The black flames obscuring his vision quickly vanished.
Lind looked ahead at two dark figures.
He remembered the Rand Kingdom did not have black people, or was it that a new race like the Green Skins had been born?
They emitted a stench like rotting sewage in the summer, mumbling to each other in strange, twisted tones.
If these were the Black Fire brothers, Lind could be certain he had found the right ones. Their aura wasn’t very strong, they were merely Upper Rank Grand Knights at best.
And their only method of attack was the black flame.
The Black Fire brothers raised their hands once more.
Flames erupted.
"Clore’s Explosive Flame."
Lind was all too familiar with it; it was this black Explosive Flame that had blasted the Great Knights out moments before.
But Lind had no fear; he was indifferent to the black flame’s curse and didn’t even bother to dodge, striding forward.
The Black Fire brothers clearly hadn’t expected this; their offensive means fizzled out upon encountering Lind—from their perspective, all the more pitiful since they had no idea who was assaulting Dark Night Orchard.
The Black Fire brothers exchanged a look and suddenly turned into two swaths of black flame, scattering in different directions.
All Lind could do was pursue one of them, leaving the other to his Soldiers, who were sure to capture it.
