Chapter 210: Courageous Confession

Ronan took a deep breath, looking at Benjamin and then at Evelyn. "Fine," he finally said, though half-heartedly. He wasn’t fully agreeing to it, and looking at Gracia, he added, "We’ll hand her over to the authorities. But the court’s decision would be what I had planned for her earlier."

Evelyn sighed in relief, a weight lifting off her shoulders. If Sophia could buy a judge and wrap up Annabelle’s case, she felt it wasn’t anything wrong. Maybe it would also be possible if they convinced the judge, though it sounded ridiculous.

Gracia smiled at Ronan. "Thank you," she said, her heart feeling lighter and more at ease.

Rosalind was also happy with the outcome. She had been skeptical of using the mafia to get Sophia when they could have gone through the right legal ways. But Zevian convinced her to trust his friend Damien, who wouldn’t bring dirt on their family with this issue. Her worry had been gnawing at her, but now she felt a sense of relief.

Evelyn took out her phone to call Lucius. They discussed the details, and he assured Ronan that his request was possible if they tried well.

"Then should I arrange for the press conference?" Lucius asked, mentioning the one Gracia was supposed to attend after Ronan was done with Sophia. Evelyn looked at her mother, and at her nod, she agreed. "Yes. Let’s have it tomorrow evening after we finish reporting to the cops."

"Sounds good," Lucius agreed. "We will directly talk with the Commissioner tomorrow. I will grab all the evidence and meet you at his office."

Evelyn nodded, and Avery took out her phone to call her father, Theodore. "I will ask Dad to help us arrange the meeting." When Rosalind smiled, Avery laughed. "He has been sulking that Evelyn wasn’t trusting him but some mafia thugs and taking their help. He’d be pleased to hear this news."

Avery bit her tongue, realizing the mafia thugs were still sitting right with them. Rosalind slapped her shoulder in worry, and Evelyn shook her head at her filterless mouth.

Benjamin laughed out loud. "It’s fine. She isn’t saying anything wrong," he murmured, much to her relief.

Avery sighed and decided to make up for it. She passed her phone to Rosalind to talk with her brother and convince him. She then got up and approached Benjamin, "How about I show you around the mansion, Master Igor?"

Benjamin beamed and nodded. "I would love a tour."

"I will come with you!" Kiana quickly got off Elias’s lap and ran to Avery. The girls escorted the old man out of the hall.

"I need to make a call," Ronan murmured and excused himself. Rosalind asked Gracia if she wanted to join her in the kitchen, and the older women left too, leaving Evelyn and Elias alone.

Evelyn turned to her brother, noticing his blank expression as if he was deep in thought. She held his hand and said, "I know this is all hard for you. But just hang in there, it will be over soon."

Elias sighed and nodded. "I will give my statement to the police tomorrow. I will confess everything that happened that night," he said, his voice heavy with guilt. He was finally ready to confess his part in the crime too, to face the consequences and ensure justice was served.

Lowering his head, Elias murmured, "I hope they find her soon."

Evelyn nodded and pulled him into a hug. Elias closed his eyes, finding strength as Evelyn gently patted his back. He was already brave enough to stand on the right side, which many wouldn’t be able to do when the opposite was their mother. It took immense courage to admit one’s mistakes and take responsibility, especially when it involved someone so close. And Evelyn was so proud of him.

The next day, Lucius took care of things at the police station with Theodore’s help, and everything went smoothly for Gracia and Evelyn. They were thoroughly interrogated separately, from the accusations made against Sophia to the evidence their lawyer, Lucius, had submitted.

The legal process involved intense questioning, with each of them providing detailed statements. The officers reviewed the documents and evidence meticulously, cross-referencing their accounts to ensure consistency.

Zevian had taken Gracia home while Evelyn and Avery stayed behind since Elias had just gone for interrogation. Though Lucius was watching over him through the observation panel, Evelyn couldn’t help but feel anxious. Elias had already confessed in front of them an hour ago before they came here; he truly had no clue that Annabelle was still alive. She wasn’t sure if he would be punished for it too.

Just then, Ronan came with Benjamin. As Annabelle’s family, they would play a major role in deciding whether to file a case against Elias since he didn’t push Annabelle intentionally. It was an accident that Sophia manipulated into murder and forced Elias to comply with her plans all along.

"Ah, they are here finally," Avery let out a sigh of relief. She went and greeted the old man first while Evelyn smiled at Ronan.

"Since there’s nothing more, we will be flying back tonight," Benjamin said to Evelyn, who looked a little sad. "We will return once she is caught. Once she is punished, we can celebrate it together."

Evelyn looked at Ronan, who seemed still depressed. Glancing at her, he added, "I am fine as long as she is punished in the way I want. I am just a little pissed that even with so many eyes around, she still managed to flee."

"She is straight up from hell, I tell you," Avery commented, shaking her head, and everyone agreed. Sophia wasn’t any ordinary villain and grated their nerves even more.

Inside the interrogation room, the atmosphere was tense and filled with anxiety. The black room had a cold, sterile feeling, with only the harsh fluorescent lights casting shadows. Elias patiently sat on the chair, waiting.

A police officer entered and sat at the table in front of him. He opened his laptop and started questioning. "I am a good friend of Lucius, so you don’t have to be afraid, okay?" the officer tried to ease the young man a little. At Elias’s nod, he continued, "Let’s start then."

The officer asked a few preliminary questions, noting Elias’s responses. After a pause, he asked the main question: "Tell me everything from that night."

Elias took a deep breath and began, "That night..."
