Chapter 191: Left All Alone
Gracia smirked at Sophia’s reaction, finding it extremely satisfying. Even Evelyn couldn’t help but take another sip of her wine, admiring her mother’s boldness that she thought was lost in the asylum. Who knew it would burst out just by seeing their faces?
"Good!" Gracia nodded with a smile. Turning to William, she added, "Get done with the procedures quickly. Once you are divorced, I will think about returning to Wright Mansion."
William frowned at her response. She would think about it? What had gotten into her?
Gracia didn’t bother to entertain him anymore and turned around to leave. Quickly, Rita stepped up and helped her down the stage. The bodyguards surrounded her and escorted her toward the main door. Many reporters tried to swarm in, but the team kept them away from Gracia.
"Let’s leave," Theodore suggested, as there was no reason to stay behind. If they did, everyone would swarm like flies. Zevian nodded and his team quickly came over, escorting the Reign family out too.
William looked at them, his face carrying a mix of emotions. Did they find her? Did Evelyn find her mother? It somewhere also shamed him that she was the one to do it and not him. How foolish he had been all these years believing she was actually dead?
"I... I think she had filled Gracie’s mind, honey." Sophia murmured, breaking into uncontrollable tears. "She’s turning her against us!" she blatantly accused Evelyn, making Elias scoff out loud.
William gritted his teeth, believing it blindly! Of course, Evelyn must have turned them into villains and acted pitifully, making Gracie hate him! Yes, that must be the case! He thought, his foolishness framing Evelyn again.
He stormed out of the hall too, quickly followed by Sophia and Elias. But he was too late as the Reigns’ cars drove away.
Lucius looked at them and drove almost close to them, scaring the life out of Sophia who shrieked and fell back. People waiting outside couldn’t help but laugh at how funnily she fell down on the floor.
Sophia gritted her teeth and looked at William, whose eyes were on the cars. He wasn’t even caring about her, which grated on her nerves more. Elias, with a sigh, squatted down to help her.
"Get me a car!" William groaned at his assistant, and as soon as the car arrived, he quickly got into it, driving away.
"This useless prick!" Sophia couldn’t hold herself from cursing out loud. All her years of hard work, all the love she had poured into him, it all suddenly felt like dust. She knew she would never take Gracia’s place in his heart, but to be ignored like this? As if she had never mattered in the first place, it boiled her blood.
"You’re embarrassing me! Get up!" Elias grumbled as Sophia sat there coldly on the floor. He forcefully helped her stand up and quickly called over for a car.
Luckily, they entered quickly before the reporters rushed out, swarming around their car. The driver, with a lot of effort, finally drove out, followed by a myriad of reporters.
Elias looked at his mother fuming red. She ran a hand through her hair, looking for her phone through her purse. Karma had hit them hard and he felt no pity for her at all.
"Should we pack our bags?" Elias asked, his words rubbing her already burning wounds.
"Shut up!" Sophia snapped at him, her voice thick with anger. Even the driver gulped, for the first time seeing Sophia’s real face.
"He doesn’t look like he would care for us any longer," Elias continued, only to earn a sharp glare.
"I will throw you out of the car if you continue that bullshit!" Sophia screamed at the top of her lungs, throwing the purse that flew to the accelerator button in the front.
Elias simply shrugged and replied, "I am just stating facts." When his mother huffed out loud, he turned around and looked out of the window, barely able to hide his smile.
As soon as they reached the mansion, Sophia ran out like a mad woman. She lifted her dress and ran upstairs to her study room. Elias followed her and she didn’t care. He knew almost all of her secrets now and since they seemed to getting busted soon, all she cared about was finding a solution to this mess! She couldn’t let them walk all over her, snatching away things with a flick of their fingers for which she had worked so hard all these years.
Quickly taking out her hidden phone, one with buttons, she dialed Maverick’s number. Elias walked in and sat on the couch as his mother spat a few curses at his biological father.
"And where the hell is he?!" she cursed out loud, running a hand through her hair. When it didn’t connect, she paced in the room, and when it still didn’t connect, she threw the phone and it split into pieces.
"Give me your phone!" she demanded, as Maverick would surely pick up his son’s number. Elias had never called him, but that guy had his number saved in his phone.
After just one trial, Maverick picked it up.
"Bloody loser!" Sophia screamed out loud, making Maverick groan on the other side.
Ever since someone had visited Gracia, his lover had been angry and venting to him that he had grown tired and really frustrated. For god’s sake, she was dead and this woman needed to stop yelling at him! But her next words shocked the soul out of him.
"You! You said Gracia was dead! How come she walked right into the hall today?"
"What?" Maverick shrieked on the other side. When Sophia explained everything that happened tonight, his brows creased together in a frown.
"Those backstabbers!" he cursed out loud. "Lobos must have fooled us. They might have taken Damien’s side and sent us the wrong pictures of Gracia’s body."
Sophia fumed out loud. When a video of a lifeless body that was thrown into the water was sent, she was overjoyed believing it was indeed Gracia, and didn’t suspect it at all!
"What should we do now?" Sophia asked in a panicked voice. All doors seemed to be shut and her mind was completely numb, still trying to digest the humiliation earlier.
Maverick sighed out loud. He also realized they were trapped from all sides and no one would stop Sophia from being destroyed completely. Her pot of crimes was overflowing already and it seemed like her time had come to finally go to hell.
"Not we, but you, Sophia," Maverick replied curtly, his words making even Elias frown.
Was he giving up on his mother already? Elias scoffed, recalling how Sophia had praised him, telling him he would never betray them and would even be ready to take the blame on her behalf. That’s how much he loved her!
"What do you mean, Rick?" Sophia asked in a worried tone. No way! Out of all the people, Maverick would never leave her to die! He would definitely find a solution and take her out of this mess! He would save her at all costs! But his next words crashed all her hopes.
"It means I am tired of playing along with your tricks, Sophia." With a sigh, he continued, "I can’t forever stay in this Arabian look just to save you. Moreover, no one can save you now. Not even the gods themselves."
"No, Rick! If we work together, we can solve this!" Sophia cried, panic clear in her voice.
"Yeah! Keep on deluding and wait for Zevian’s men to drag you out," Maverick replied with a scoff.
"Do you think I would go alone?" Sophia tried to threaten him, desperately looking for some support. "I will drag you along with me, Rick! If I die, you will die too! Don’t forget you share equal parts in my sins."
But all she heard from the other side was mocking laughter. Her heart felt heavy, her body trembling at the sound.
"Try me. Lobos would never let me die. I don’t work for them just for money, Sophie. I do it to keep myself alive!" Maverick replied, proving that he wasn’t as dumb and lovesick as she thought him to be. "Even if Damien or Ronan come after me, the Lobo head would protect me."
"Then ask him to protect us too! We are your family!" Sophia cried out loud, tears of frustration forming in her eyes.
"Have you ever looked at me like family? Stop fooling around, bitch! I know very well that you see me as nothing more than a pawn," Maverick barked from the other end, his control breaking free. "And don’t worry about Elias. Just tell him to pack his stuff. My men will soon come to pick him up."
"He is my only family and I will keep him away from this mess at all costs," Maverick declared, making his stance clear.
As he cut the call, Sophia looked at the phone with a blank expression, her mind unable to process it all.
"I will pack my bags," Elias declared, getting up from his seat.
"No! No, baby!" Sophia quickly ran over to him. "We will get out of this trouble! I promise!" she murmured, clutching his arm tightly.
But Elias looked at her as if she was joking. With a scoff, he shoved her away before taking his phone and walking out.
Sophia looked at his disappearing back, tears stinging her eyes. It felt as though her heart was crushed with a heavy stone, making it hard to breathe. She stood there, feeling utterly abandoned by everyone.
Did everyone turn their back on her? Including her own son? And more importantly, how the heck was she going to fight this all alone? All by herself?
