Chapter 186: Dead End

Evelyn shrugged off her hand, taking a step back. "So, you know him." She smirked, thinking Sophia had already informed him about Rodrick Igor’s arrival here.

Elias stared at Gracia for the longest second before turning to Evelyn. "Of course!" He curtly replied, his face perfectly hiding his real intentions. Sophia had indeed cried in front of him that someone from Igor’s family was here and they might come after them, but he knew things she had no clue about.

"And what’s the security doing there?" Avery barked at the entrance, before turning to glare at her assistant. The security team quickly rushed over, being informed by the front desk. Crossing her arms, Avery grumbled, "How can you let anyone into the building? Is this some public restroom?"

The team lowered their heads, trembling under their CEO’s glare. Elias was Grace’s brother so they didn’t stop him from entering the building.

"Why are you here?" Evelyn crossed her arms. It didn’t seem like he was here to talk about Annabelle again.

"Dad asked me to invite you for dinner tonight. You can bring your husband and kid." Elias replied, his tone making everyone frown. Did the siblings fight? Or were they on bad terms now after Annabelle’s incident? Many wondered but didn’t raise their voices.

Evelyn scoffed in disbelief. Husband and Kid? So, he wasn’t even genuine with Kiana? It ached her heart and she hated herself for it.

"She won’t step into that house again. Now, get lost." Avery was the one to reply, pointing at the entrance.

Gracia looked at Evelyn, wondering if she was reconsidering her decision because of her. It seemed so as she neither agreed nor denied the offer. No, if she didn’t wish to ever see William again, she wouldn’t force her. He had hurt her enough and it was totally understandable if she didn’t wish to mend things with him.

"Fine." Elias hissed before turning around to leave.

Avery glared at his back while Evelyn sighed, her mind mush again. Turning to Gracia, she held her hand and murmured, "Let’s go."

And they all walked toward the lift, leaving others to murmur among themselves. With the way Grace, aka Evelyn, behaved with her brother, it seemed likethe Wright family had deeply wounded her. Many were just glad she decided to stir clear of them, knowing Sophia and her antics all too well.

Once they reached Avery’s office, Rita quickly closed the door, shutting all the transparent windows. Gracia took out her mask and cap. Placing them on the coffee table, she sat on the couch, Evelyn sitting right beside her. Avery filled a glass of water and passed it to Evelyn first.

"Here," Evelyn passed it to Gracia instead. Seeing Elias personally so close must have rubbed her scars and she hated herself for getting her out of the house. But it was also a good thing, she would be more confident facing them a month from now.

Gracia took the glass, her fingers slightly trembling from the aaftershock She took a few sips, before placing it on the coffee table. Evelyn moved closer and gave her a side hug, making her let out a sigh. Reaching out, she patted her cheek, assuring that she was fine.

"He ruined all my excitement!" Avery grumbled out loud. Taking a glass, she filled it and gulped down the water. It was still hard to accept this side of her once golden retriever. She could still not understand at all though Elias had cleared his intentions.

Silence filled the room for a few seconds. Rita stood by the door while Avery settled on the chair across from Gracia. She kept glancing at Evelyn to make sure she was fine too.

Evelyn broke the hug. Turning to Gracia, she held her hands firmly and asked, "Do you want me to meet him?"

"I respect your wishes, Bunny," Gracia replied with a smile. Adjusting her hair, she added, "If you don’t want to, I understand it."

Evelyn broke into a smile and Avery couldn’t thank Gracia more. William didn’t deserve any of her best friend’s energy anymore in her opinion and she hoped he wouldn’t use Gracia in the future to mend things. It would be uncomfortable and disheartening for Evelyn, considering his ill-treatment all these years.

"Alright." Avery clapped her hands. "Now, it’s time to introduce my team to you, Aunt." She said with a cheeky smile. Turning to Evelyn, she added, "Meet the ace of my company, Evelyn Reign, aka Grace, aka hot shot designer in our field."

Gracia’s eyes subtly widened in surprise, her mind reeling at the name Avery addressed Evelyn. Grace? Did she use her name to start her career? Her eyes met Evelyn’s, the genuine happiness in them bringing tears to her eyes.

"She didn’t wish your name to get erased, Aunty. Hence the name, Grace." Avery added with a smile.

Evelyn looked at her mother and confessed, "I just wanted you to be forever with me, as a part of me."

When Avery suggested using a different name to stay low-key, the first person that came to her mind was her dead mother. She used it without any second thoughts, and whenever she worked, it always felt like Gracia was with her, giving her more strength to do better.

Gracia couldn’t back her tears. It was heart-warming to be cherished by someone so much. She knew Evelyn might miss her at every big phase of her life, especially if she ever took over Wright corporations. But this little girl had decided to keep her alive, close, and forever with her.

"Thank you, bunny," Gracia murmured, pulling Evelyn into a tight hug. Evelyn smiled and hugged her back, making Rita slightly emotional.

"Ah! Don’t forget me!" Avery grumbled and shifted to Gracia’s side. She joined in the hug, making the duo chuckle at her antics.

Gracia slowly turned to Rita standing at the door. "Come over," she suggested, surprising the young woman.

"Me?" Rita murmured, unsure if it was right to just barge and disrupt their intimate moment. When Gracia nodded with a smile, she slowly walked over. Avery pulled her into the hug, making the young woman tear up.

They all hugged each other for a few seconds before breaking up, smiles etched on their faces. Avery was eager to show another huge surprise, their project Happy Homes which was Gracia’s dream.

"Hold back your tears, old lady. There’s more to come," she teased with a grin. Looking at Evelyn, she added, "Should we finally reveal it?"

Evelyn nodded with a grin. But before they could move, suddenly her phone rang. She took it out and saw it was Zevian.

"Ah, he can’t leave you alone for even an hour." Avery teased with a cheeky smile. Gracia smiled too and nodded when Evelyn looked at her, asking to finish the call first.

Evelyn got up and walked over to the window. With a silly smile, she picked up her husband’s call. "Aren’t you busy?" But when Zevian didn’t reply, her expression shifted to one of worry.

"We should hurry to old Wright Mansion. Lucius has some lead on the person." Zevian briefed her, making Evelyn turn around and look at her mother.

"Alright. I will be there." Evelyn replied before turning around. Avery read her expressions, understanding it must related to the message.

"What? He wants to take you on a date now?" Avery questioned, pulling out an act. When Evelyn blinked, she continued, "His assistant already messaged me earlier asking for your schedule. So, I guessed he was planning a surprise."

Gracia looked between the two wwomen unaware of this piece of news. The way Evelyn’s expression turned to surprise, it looked like she was clueless too.

"I will take care of her. You should leave." Avery suggested, making it easy for Evelyn to escape. "It’s rare for him to get free time."

When Evelyn turned to Gracia, she nodded with a smile. Zevian ran an empire and for him to take breaks just for her daughter, it showed how much he loved you.

"I will take Rita with me," Evelyn replied, forcing out a smile. "I will book a private room at our regular. Join us later for lunch." At Avery’s nod, she quickly walked out with Rita following behind.

The ride to the old Wright mansion was almost an hour. When they reached, men covered in all black were spread through the area, restricting entry for others. Both the women walked over to the garden only to find Zevian and Lucius already present, standing beside Annabelle and Gracia’s graveyard.

Evelyn reached out and asked, "What’s wrong?"

Zevian turned around and held out his hand. When she took it, he walked over to the area behind Annabell’s tombstone.

"That person had left the phone here." Lucius briefed out, showing the polythene bag in his team’s hand. Then pointing out the burner phone, he added, "They had placed it right below the tombstone. It’s as if they want us to get it."
