Chapter 180: Pinky Promise

"What?" Lucius on the call frowned in confusion. His team quickly skimmed through the spots nearby and realized it was indeed a meter away from the old Wright Mansion. They were overjoyed with the location that they missed such an important detail.

Evelyn blankly stared at the blue dot on the map, her heart thudding loud. If she recalled correctly, the location seemed to be right in the garden, where her mother was buried decades ago. And also were Annabelle was laid right beside Gracia. What did it mean? Only negative thoughts filled her mind, making her feel dizzy.

"Look into it," Zevian asked to Lucius. Ending the call that was on speaker, he closed the laptop and wrapped a hand around Evelyn.

Evelyn looked at him, her eyes filled with a mix of dread and hope. "She is gonna be fine, right?" she asked, her voice barely above whisper.

Zevian pulled her into a hug in response. Kissing her forehead, he replied, "No one will be able to even touch her. I promise."

Evelyn heaved a small sigh, nodding in response. She snuggled closer in her embrace, letting his warmth wash away all her worries. With him right beside her, there was no necessity to simply worry about her mother. Gracia would be safe and they will together make sure of it.

Zevian gently caresses through her hair, letting her calm down and broke the hug a few moments later. Tucking her hair behind her ear, he asked with a smirk, "So, how are you gonna make up for it?"

Evelyn smiled in response, pressing her lips to hold back a chuckle. Making a poker face, she innocently replied, "For what?"

Zevian’s smile vanished at her play, his brows creased in disappointment. Evelyn laughed out at his reaction. Cupping his face, she captured his lips in a small kiss.

"I will take you on a date tonight. How does that sound, Mr. Reign?" she asked, her eyes glinting with excitement.

"Fine for now." Zevian replied, curtly nodding. Something was better than nothing right?

"For now?" Evelyn replied, laughing out loud again. Shaking her head, she moved back and added, "Let’s leave before someone barges in and decides to spoil it."

Zevian nodded with a small smile. As she walked to wear a thick coat, he took his phone from the coffee table and texted Lucius. Their date wouldn’t be enough to keep her distracted and they needed to quickly get to the bottom of it.

While in Gracia’s room.

"Why are you here?" Kiana grumbled as Avery walked into the room. They had already ruined her perfect plan to sleep with her Mommy and it seemed like even her grandma’s attention would be snatched away by her aunt.

"Look at her, Aunty. Just because everyone treats her like a princess, she had turned into a brat!" Avery complained with a scowl. Laying beside Kiana on the bed, she added, "Sorry to disappoint you but I am sleeping here tonight."

"Don’t you have your own room?" Kiana sneered in disapproval.

"That isn’t the way you talk to elders, Kia." Gracia was the one to respond, her words making Kiana blink in confusion. When the little girl turned to her, the elder woman continued, "And you should never talk to your Daddy like that."

A pout formed on Kiana’s lips, realizing this was going to be another lecture session for her. Jonathan had always nagged about it but Rosy would save her, but tonight it seemed like she was trapped in all the ways.

"And don’t think of acting in front of us." Avery warned in a serious tone. When Kiana turned to her, ready to cry, she quickly added, "Even if you cry or create a scene, I won’t let you out until you understand what your grandma is trying to fit into that little brain of yours."

"You are bullying me! I will tell to Mommy!" Kiana grumbled, tears already forming in her eyes.

"The walls are soundproof so she won’t hear a thing." Avery added much to Kiana’s displeasure. The little girl started to sob gently making both the women sigh out loud.

"Kia, look at me." Gracia said and holding the little girl, she made her turn around. Holding her hands, she started, "Do you think grandma can ever bully you?"

When Kiana shook her head, Gracia smiled and wiped away her tears. Pulling her on her lap, she continued, "So just listen to what I am trying to say." When Kiana didn’t respond, she added, "You are a grown up girl now, Kiana. So think yourself, okay?"

"Tell me." Kiana replied, her eyes fixed on her hands.

"First, if you keep being rude to your Daddy in front of everyone, what would people think about it?" Gracia asked seriously. "Doesn’t that create an opinion that you don’t love and respect him?"

"I do!"

"Then why do you calling him stupid in front of her everyone?" Avery asked with a sneer. "Would you like it if Yael did the same to you in your class? Everyday?"

"I would pluck out his hair!" Kiana hissed in frustration. And when Avery smiled, she realized her mistake.

"Second, isn’t Evelyn here because of your Daddy?" Gracia asked looking down at Kiana. When the little girl shook her head, she added, "I know you were the one who made them meet again. But if Evelyn hadn’t liked your Daddy in the past, do you think she would have agreed to become your Mommy so easily?"

When Kiana remained silent, Gracia continued, "Yes, you were their little cupid but you should also accept the fact that Daddy played a major role in bringing her into your life. He would have married anyone because you kept asking for a Mommy, but he didn’t. You know why?"

"Because he loves and cares about me." After a small pause, Kiana added, "He only wants the best for me."

Gracia and Avery exchanged smiles. Yes, everyone had been easy on Kiana since she had grown up without a mother. And Evelyn most importantly seemed to ignore her tantrums thinking she was a child. She was still learning the lessons of parenting and Gracia would be glad to help her out.

Gracia caressed Kiana’s head and asked, "And as he ever been rude to you?"

Kiana shook her head.

"So, you need to understand that you shouldn’t compete with him for Evelyn. He has gone through a lot, worked so hard until now to give the best for you and he deserves to be loved right?"

"But if he gets to spend more time with her, they would always ignore me." Kiana expressed honestly.

"Who told you such rubbish things?" Avery asked with a frown.

"There’s a girl in our class. After her new Mommy came, her Daddy started ignoring her completely. They always spend time together and leave her with a nanny." Kiana explained, having heard her friend cry about it everyday. She was worried it would be the same case for her.

"Oh goodness, Kiana. You are the actual stupid person in our family." Avery groaned in annoyance.

Gracia smiled at her words. "But your parents are different, Kiana. They love you the most and would never leave you." She said, looking at Kiana. "And if they do, I will be always here to scold them. Just tell me, okay?"

"Pinky promise?" Kiana asked taking out her finger. Gracia nodded and locked it with a smile.

"Grandma is the best." Kiana giggled and pounced into a hug. "Just like my Mommy." She added, making the ladies laugh in response.
