Chapter 171: Waking Up

Evelyn looked at Gracia’s face, her heart clenching at the sight of tears. She stood straight, taking her hand away from Gracia. Was she hurting her more? Turning to the doctor and his stuff, she murmured, "She she is crying..."

"It’s a good sign. Don’t worry." Wismay replied with a small smile. He then turned to his staff who got to their job, checking Gracia’s vitals and examining her properly.

Evelyn reluctantly took a step back, letting the doctors do their job. Rita walked over and supported her shoulders. Evelyn gratefully held onto her free hand, calming herself down. Her mom was doing fine! And that’s all that mattered to her.

"Please visit her every day." Wismay talked to Evelyn, guiding the ladies out. "Staying here all the time would be a bad idea but you can do two rounds every day."

"Is she really okay?" Evelyn asked as they walked out of the room.

Wismay smiled in response and nodded. "Trust me, she will do even better with you here."

Evelyn nodded, sighing in relief. Looking up at him, she replied, "Thank you, Dr. Wismay. I was worried about how she was being taken care of but seeing you, it feels like she is under the best care."

Wismay scratched her brow and smiled shyly. "I am just doing my job."

Evelyn smiled and chatted for a few more minutes, she left along with Rita and Derrek. They directly took her to Damien’s mansion, and she observed how extra guards were put to work. The security system was also upgraded to the next level as without face and fingerprint scanning, no one was allowed to enter the large automated gates.

"Your room is already been cleaned, Ma’am," Derek said to Evelyn as they entered the house. The working staff quickly assembled in a line and she smiled at him, bowing her head gently because of the language barrier.

"You can rest up! Master told to inform that he would return for dinner." With that, Derek bowed to Evelyn and left the house, driving back to the hospital.

Evelyn turned to Rita and suggested, "You should get some sleep too, Rita. You were up throughout the flight to look after me."

"Yes, Ma’am. I will catch up with my buddies first." Rita replied, her giggle bringing a smile to Evelyn’s face. With a nod, the young woman excitedly ran out of the house while Evelyn returned to her room.

It felt empty since neither Zevian nor Kiana was here, the thought making her heart heavy. She took a warm bath and dialed Avery, willing to be a part of the company meetings virtually. Sitting ideally would only depress her mood.

[A few hours later]

Damien walked into the house and looked for Evelyn. The staff mentioned she was in the kitchen, so he walked over to find her cooking. A smile spread across his face and leaning against the door frame, he greeted her.

"Clearing out your mind?"

Evelyn looked up, her creased brows easing to see him. With a smile, she nodded and asked, "Go, freshen up! Let’s have dinner together."

"Yes, chef!" Damien replied, making a salute gesture before walking to his room.

Rita who had finished taking a shower, quickly rushed over to the kitchen in her pyjamas. "Oh my god. You are making so many dishes, Ma’am." She murmured, her eyes looking at the ingredients spread on the counter.

Evelyn smiled and replied, "Help me set the dining table, Rita. Once Damien returns, we will have dinner together."

"Okay!" Rita gingerly nodded with a grin. Rolling up her sleeve, she diligently set the dining table for three of them. Once Evelyn finished the last dish, she turned off the stove and took it out. Both the ladies waited for Damien to come downstairs.

After a couple of minutes, Damien walked down. He smiled at all the dishes present on the round dining table, reminding him of home. Rita smiled and pulled out a chair for him, making Damien shake his head and simply take over the seat.

"You prepared a lot," Damien commented, his mouth watering in anticipation. Even staying at Aracemia looking over Natalie, he had missed the home-cooked food. He had heard from Zevian that Evelyn was a good cook and just by the look, he could confirm it.

"Well, I had lots of free time," Evelyn replied, serving his plate. She then moved to Rita who was already holding her plate, her excitement bringing a smile to Evelyn’s face.

"Let me a take picture and send it to your husband," Damien murmured, taking out his phone. This seemed like a perfect opportunity to sour his mood and he couldn’t let it slide easily.

"No, Boss! It will be Kiana who will be getting after you," Rita murmured, a giggle escaping her lips. Ah, she was missing her friend already.

When Damien ignored the warning and sent the picture, Evelyn smiled and shook her head. Knowing her husband, she knew he would let Kiana fight for him too. They both were equally possessive for her and the thought warmed her heart.

"Let’s dig in," Evelyn said and the trio started to enjoy the food. Rita and Damien kept throwing compliments that it was great and she received it with a warm smile.

"Lucius informed me what happened at the court," Damien started a serious topic, having no time to discuss it later since he needed to return to the basement again. When Evelyn sighed, her smile faltering, he added, "If you are worried that Annabelle didn’t get justice, don’t worry. Sophia will pay for everything. Let’s go one at a time."

Evelyn nodded in understanding. The court might have let it slide but she won’t at least for the sake of Ronan. Recalling her conversation after the judgment, she said, "Oh, yeah! I accidentally slipped a few clues in frustration. She won’t be able to guess about mom, right?"

Damien shook his head. Taking a sip of the wine, he replied, "We already made a deal with Lobos for it. They won’t inform Maverick or anyone concerning Gracia that she is alive. Since we are holding a few important men of his organization, the boss has come to terms with it."

"Yes, Ma’am. Don’t worry." Even Rita assured Evelyn. "Maverick would have already been informed that Elder Madam is dead and they won’t be suspicious about it."

Evelyn nodded in relief. "But why did they even form such an alliance?" she asked, wondering how deep-rooted Maverick’s connection was for him to handle everything smoothly.

"Lobos have some illegal business in Arabia and Maverick helps them out. I think he asked them to return the favor by taking care of Gracia." Damien replied while slicing the meat. He still couldn’t understand the twisted reason why Gracia was still kept alive, but everything would be clear when she woke up. And he hoped it to be sooner.

"I hope you won’t let them go easily," Evelyn replied, her tone tinged with frustration. Her blood boiled recalling Gracia’s state in asylum. Whoever tortured her deserved the same punishment as much as who ordered them to do it.

"Don’t worry. I won’t let them die easily," Damien replied in his usual dangerous tone. The Lobos knew they had picked up the wrong person and were already regretting it. If they knew Gracia was not just Damien Valenti but even Ronan Igor’s alley, they would never accepted the task.

Evelyn nodded gratefully with a smile. "Let’s eat." She said, not wanting to ruin the peaceful moment with heavy talks. Damien and Rita nodded, the trio enjoying the dinner with a light conversation.

The next two days passed quickly with Evelyn giving her best around Gracia. She brought back the most precious memories, the painful days, and also a few incidents that might trigger Gracia’s consciousness.

"Your husband is blinded by that woman, Mom. You need to wake up soon and reveal her true face." Holding her hand gently, Evelyn added, "Only you have the power to do it."

Evelyn continued to talk as loudly as she could as per Wismay’s suggestion. But when she mentioned William again, Gracia’s hand twitched.

"They are asking you to talk more about you and him." Rita conveyed the message of the attending doctors who were noting Gracia’s response.

Evelyn blinked in confusion. After a moment of pause, she continued, "Ever since Grandma’s death, I don’t feel like I belong to that family anymore. He doesn’t even acknowledge my existence and keeps blaming me for your death."

Gracia’s heart rate raised slightly and Evelyn continued, "He hates me, Mom. He doesn’t care if I die or live."

And that final blow caused Gracia’s body to tremble slightly before she opened her eyes. Evelyn’s lips parted in surprise, a teardrop trickling down her cheek as Gracia blinked, looking around in confusion.

Wismay had rushed to the ping and requested Evelyn to wait outside. But when Evelyn didn’t budge from her seat, Rita helped her stand up and walked her out of the room.

"They will call us again after a few tests, Ma’am. Please calm down." Rita tried to console Evelyn but tears didn’t stop and she barely breathed.

And after a couple of minutes, Wismay called her in. Evelyn rushed inside to find Gracia sitting up, the mask on her nose removed while the other devices were still attached to her body.

"She kept asking for you," Wismay murmured with a small smile, pushing Evelyn forward.

"Are you my Evelyn?" That was the first question Gracia asked, her expression soft while her voice barely a whisper.

Evelyn nodded in response, tears continuously trickling down her face. "Ye... Yes, mom." She replied, taking a seat beside her. "I am your bunny."

Tears slowly gushed out of Gracia’s eyes, her body slightly trembling in happiness. "Come here, baby." She reached out and gently pulled Evelyn closer, wrapping her in a tight hug.

Everyone watched with happy tears as both the women cried uncontrollably.

"I missed you, Bunny." Gracia expressed, hugging her little girl tightly. Oh, how long she had waited for this day. For this moment to hold her dear daughter again...
