Chapter 138: Craving For Something Else
Benjamin cleared his throat, feeling the most embarrassed among the group. While the young women around couldn’t hold back their squeals as if they were seeing their favorite idol, the male staff couldn’t help but compare themselves to the Greek god on the screen. Honestly, he looked just out of their league!
"Erm... Let’s take a break," Benjamin said, standing up. The butler stepped forward to escort his master to the tea room, while the staff all focused their attention on Evelyn.
Quickly disconnecting her phone from the screen, Evelyn hastily stood and hurried out of the mansion. Rita rushed after her but stopped at a distance when Evelyn turned and glared at her. It wasn’t exactly Rita’s fault, but Evelyn felt like digging a hole to hide herself.
"There’s nothing to be embarrassed about, Madam. The boss has such a hot body that everyone was drooling over him, especially the ladies," Rita beamed, though her smile faltered under Evelyn’s serious glare.
No! His body was reserved for her alone to admire!
"I-I’ll get you something to drink," Rita stammered, backing away as Evelyn’s expression darkened, two imaginary horns practically appearing on her head. Rita turned and hurried back inside, escaping the wrath of the angry wife.
Evelyn huffed, her initial shame replaced by frustration. Rita’s words echoed like a broken record, fueling her irritation. Images of women flocking around him at the office replayed in her mind. With a cry of annoyance, she placed one hand on her waist, running the other through her hair. Her period was only making things worse!
Just then, Zevian’s call flashed on her phone. Picking it up, she turned on FaceTime, her eyes scanning his surroundings to make sure her imagination wasn’t reality. Seeing him alone in their room, she sighed in relief.
"What’s wrong?" Zevian asked, a frown creasing his brow. She looked so flustered that he thought she might be coming down with a fever. It was only the second day, but maybe she’d overworked herself.
"Who told you to send such a shameless picture?" Evelyn grumbled, glaring at her husband.
Zevian frowned, his lips curving into a small pout. Leaning back against the headboard, he replied, "I needed to reward you for what you sent me."
Evelyn’s cheeks reddened at the memory of the mirror selfie she’d sent that morning. She’d been wrapped in nothing but a loosely tied bathrobe, showing off her toned legs to tease him. Yes, it had to be the period hormones driving her crazy. But Newton’s third law was indeed true: every action has an equal and opposite reaction!
"Get lost! I have to work," Evelyn replied but didn’t hang up. As much as her frustration mounted, she missed him terribly.
Zevian checked the date and realized what was testing her patience. "Keep a hot pack and your meds close by. If the pain doesn’t ease, take a day off. Work can wait," he said, his tone serious yet full of concern.
Evelyn’s eyes widened slightly. Her frustration melted as warmth filled her heart. He noticed even the smallest things, and it only made her miss him more.
"I miss you, Ian!" she confessed, leaning against the wall, a pout forming on her lips. Her expression brought a smile to Zevian’s face.
He wanted to admit how badly he wanted to drop everything and fly to her, but he decided to tease her instead. Putting on a serious expression, Zevian replied, "But work comes first, Eva. Don’t rush back; take as many weeks as you need."
Evelyn’s frustration flared anew at his words. "So, you don’t want me to come back early?" she asked, clutching the phone tightly.
"Well, I should enjoy this peace while it lasts," Zevian replied nonchalantly.
Evelyn gritted her teeth. "Bye!" she snapped, ending the call and returning to the mansion.
Just as she was about to sit down, a message popped up from Zevian: *I’ll try to fly over this weekend.*
Her face brightened, and she sent him a heart emoji, asking him to bring Kiana if possible. She knew he’d try, though his packed schedule would likely keep him grounded. Still, the thought warmed her heart.
"Shall we continue the meeting?" Evelyn asked her team. They all nodded as Benjamin returned after finishing his tea.
---
The next few days flew by for Evelyn like a passing wind. She got so busy that she could only manage a single call to her family due to the time difference. A week had passed already, and although the major work was progressing well, they’d likely need a few extra days.
"Ah, my back!" one of the workers groaned as they exited the mansion. It was already late, nearly ten at night, and everyone just wanted to rest.
Evelyn offered her team an apologetic smile, realizing her rush might’ve been hard on them, though no one dared to complain. Stopping in front of them, she suggested, "How about we take a break tomorrow? We could sleep in, go sightseeing, and have some drinks?"
"I’m in!" the staff cheered, with Rita excitedly volunteering to be their guide. They all quickly got into their cars and headed back to the villa.
"Good night, Madam," Rita said as they entered. Once the staff dispersed to their rooms, Rita held back a giggle and continued, "I’ll keep everyone with me, so you can have some alone time, Madam. Make sure to have fun!"
Evelyn blinked at her words. Before she could ask, Rita gave her an enthusiastic thumbs-up, wished her luck, and scurried off. Evelyn brushed it off with a sigh, knowing her lively assistant too well. She made her way upstairs to her room.
Switching on the lights, Evelyn tossed her bag on the couch. Stretching with a groan, she sighed, only to catch sight of a figure standing on the balcony. A frown creased her brow, wondering who would dare enter her room unannounced.
Zevian? The name flashed in her mind, and as if he’d heard her, Zevian turned, phone pressed to his ear.
Evelyn’s face lit up, and she ran to him. "Ian!"
Zevian laughed out loud, catching her as she practically leaped into his arms. They held each other tightly, both sighing in relief. Ah, it felt so good to be back together!
"All right. Take care of her," Zevian murmured into his phone before hanging up. He tucked his phone away and hugged his wife even tighter.
"When did you get here?" Evelyn asked, looking up at him with a smile. He was still so handsome, and under the moonlight, he looked even more enchanting.
"An hour ago," Zevian replied, brushing a strand of her hair behind her ear.
"Oh, the flight must have been long. Did you have dinner?" she asked, still clinging to his waist.
Zevian shook his head, and Evelyn frowned. It was late, and knowing how picky he was about plane food, she suggested, "I’ll cook something quickly. Go freshen up and come downstairs."
Breaking free from his arms, Evelyn turned to leave, but Zevian grabbed her wrist, pulling her back. She gasped, his hand firm around her waist as she looked up at him in confusion, only to find a darker glint in his eyes.
"I’m craving something else tonight," Zevian said, a sly smirk lifting his lips.
"Wh-what?" Evelyn stammered, her hands resting on his chest.
"You," Zevian replied before capturing her lips in a fervent kiss.
