Chapter 131: We Will Miss You
Later that night, Evelyn paced back and forth in their room. The clock had ticked past eight, and her heart raced with each passing minute. Zevian had important work to finish, and fortunately, he hadn’t come out of his study since they returned home.
"So, what will you be wearing?" Avery asked with a smirk. Evelyn had been acting odd, blushing, and lost in her world. Avery had managed to coax out the reason, and she was delighted with her success.
Evelyn glared at her friend, pointing at the door. "Get out!" she grumbled. Avery had come by to ask about dinner but ended up staying after Evelyn accidentally shared her worries. She was regretting it now.
"Oh, come on!" Avery rolled her eyes. "I know it’s been a while since you had sex, but stop worrying so much. You’ll spoil the mood." She tried to sound nonchalant.
"Says the virgin cat," Evelyn retorted, causing Avery to scowl.
"I am not a virgin!" Avery grumbled. When Evelyn crossed her arms and gave her a look, she continued, "I lost it a long time ago. Just because we’re best friends doesn’t mean we share *all* our secrets."
"Exactly," Evelyn agreed. "And we should respect each other’s privacy. Now, get out." She motioned toward the door, making Avery stand up from the bed.
When Avery tried to retort and continue her love guru routine, Evelyn dragged her toward the door and pushed her out. Just as she was about to shut it, Avery placed a hand on the door to stop her.
"All right, on a serious note," Avery said with a small smile. "Kia’s already asleep, and I’ll make sure she stays in my room. So... good luck!"
"Thank you!" Evelyn replied with a forced smile before shutting the door. Once she heard Avery leave, grumbling on the other side, she leaned against the door and sighed in relief.
Avery was right. She was being nervous for no reason. But the longer Evelyn had to wait, the harder it became to stay calm. With a sigh, she decided to take a hot bath to relax.

An hour later, Zevian finished his work and removed his glasses. A smile crept across his lips as he recalled their earlier conversation in Evelyn’s office. As much as he hated to send her away, duty came first, and she had to keep her promises. He planned to keep his promise to her tonight as well.
Taking his phone, Zevian headed to their room. A staff member couldn’t help but admire him as he passed by, the smile on his face like an early Christmas gift. It was rare to see him so happy, but when he was, it never failed to make them swoon.
Zevian reached their room, already picturing Evelyn pacing inside, nervous yet anticipating his arrival. He opened the door, but the sight that greeted him wiped away his smile and all the excitement.
"Hi, Daddy!"
Kiana waved happily at her father, sitting right beside Evelyn on the bed. Evelyn looked up at him with an apologetic expression, just as surprised that their daughter had woken up and rushed to their room.
Hadn’t Avery barged into the study earlier, saying not to worry about Kiana? Where the hell was she now? Zevian clenched his fists in frustration. Avery, meanwhile, was speeding away in her car, praying for her life. She had offended Zevian enough today and doubted that running away was even worth it.
The little devil had woken up and run to their room while Avery was in the shower. Despite her attempts to coax Kiana back to bed, the girl became suspicious that her parents were going on a date without her and clung to Evelyn. So, it wasn’t exactly her fault, or so Avery reasoned as she pressed the accelerator and bolted out of the house.
Back in the room, Evelyn frowned as Zevian stood at the door, his dark expression far from intimidating. "Come, join us! Mommy’s telling a story," Kiana said innocently, patting the space beside her.
"Oh, do you have work?" Kiana asked when Zevian didn’t respond. With a cheerful smile, she added, "It’s fine. You should go finish it up." She enjoyed spending time with her mommy without him sulking around.
"Aren’t you supposed to be sleeping?" Zevian grumbled as he walked toward the bed. He had no intention of letting her win this time. Kiana had had enough alone time with Evelyn, and he wasn’t going to give up the little time they had left.
"I had a long nap. I’m not sleepy," Kiana replied with a smile. Horse riding had drained her earlier, but she had slept on the way home and woke up realizing she wasn’t in their room, afraid she’d miss the bedtime routine.
Zevian scowled. Looking at Evelyn, he muttered, "I’ll take a shower," before storming toward the bathroom.
Evelyn chuckled softly as the door shut with a loud bang. She was a little disappointed, but she needed to spend time with Kiana too. She would miss both of them terribly—if Zevian even let her leave. She still had to convince him, and that thought made her sigh.
"Are you tired, Mommy?" Kiana asked, hugging her tightly. "You can sleep. We can finish the story tomorrow night."
Evelyn realized she also needed to convince this little devil. Sighing inwardly, she shook her head and replied, "No, sweetie. Let’s finish it tonight."
A few minutes later, Zevian emerged from the bathroom in his lounge suit. He saw Kiana still awake, and it felt as though she was deliberately picking on him. He sighed, wiping his hair dry before tossing the towel aside and laying down next to Kiana.
When the little girl turned to him and smiled warmly, he couldn’t help but let go of his sour thoughts. Evelyn would be gone for a few weeks, and they would have to team up and cry about it every night starting tomorrow.
"Did you pack?" Zevian asked, surprising Evelyn.
She blinked, not expecting him to accept it so easily. "So, you approve?" she asked, smiling.
Zevian sighed, and Evelyn felt a pang of guilt for both of them. But duty came first, and she had to finish her task as quickly as possible to return to them—if Kiana would even let her go.
"Are you going somewhere, Mommy?" Kiana asked with a frown. Her disappointed expression clearly showed she wasn’t ready to let her go.
When Evelyn nodded, forcing a tight smile, Kiana continued, "Oh, is it for a day?"
"For a few weeks," Zevian replied, making Kiana immediately sit up in bed.
The little girl glared at her father, wondering if he was joking. Then, she turned to her Mommy. When Evelyn nodded, Kiana shook her head and declared, "No! You can’t!"
