Chapter 61: She Was Left Behind
Chapter 61: She Was Left Behind
"At least you were sensible enough to keep your marriage a secret. Find time to divorce her. You can keep her if you want but she can never carry my surname." George said with finality.
"I have a lot of business associates and close friends whose daughters or granddaughters would be happy to marry you. You don’t lack choices. Why settle for someone like her?" George continued to scold Erik.
"Grandpa, you don’t even know what she is like. It is not her fault to be born into a poor family. She graduated at the top of her class and is very talented. Her beauty is only secondary to her talents. Besides, it is as if I need to rely on the strength of my wife’s family to succeed." Erik explained.
George looked at his grandson thoughtfully. ’This rascal is right. He doesn’t need a marriage alliance to be successful.’ But he did not dare to utter his thoughts.
"Hmmm. Looks like she bewitched you. If I had known that you will fall into the hands of a nobody, I did not support your Dad’s plan to send that girl away three years ago. At least her family has a better background..."
"What did you say, Grandpa?" Erik interrupted him.
George realized that he said something that he should not have. But since he already let the cat out of the bag, there was no sense in denying it.
"We gave the girl money and send her away." He said without emotion.
"Didn’t you realize what you have done Grandpa?" Erik asked bitterly.
"What have I done? Aren’t you a successful tycoon now? You are a business genius. The top CEO and the youngest billionaire in the country. That girl will only hinder you from getting to where you are today." George said forcefully.
"You are cruel and selfish Grandpa," Erik shouted angrily then he punched the wall. His hand bled but he did not feel any pain.
His grandfather and father were dumbfounded. They did not expect Erik to have such a strong reaction. Erik did not care at all. Het stormed out of the study and shut the door with a loud bang.
Aryana and the twins who were playing with the piano in the living room were startled by the loud noise. Aryana saw Erik storm out of the study from the second floor.
"Erik. What happened?" She asked nervously.
Erik went past her and continued with his big strides. It seemed like he did not notice Aryana.
’Did he not hear me?’ Aryana was worried because Erik seemed to be not himself.
She followed him outside only to see the tail lights of the black Bentley leaving at full speed.
Aryana was speechless. ’Did Erik just leave me here?’
She went back to the house to get her cell phone to call Erik when she met George and Henry Lee at the entrance of the mansion.
"And I thought you had bewitched Erik but he left you. So who are you to him? A pretend wife to spite me?" Henry’s words were like a knife that cut into Aryana’s heart. Unfortunately, those were the truth.
Aryana bowed slightly and said in a gentle voice. "Excuse me Mr. George, Mr. Henry. I will just get my purse."
She hurried inside the living room.
"Sweeties, I will teach you some other time. Auntie has an urgent thing to do." She said softly then she kissed the cheeks of the twins before going out to call Erik.
She called him but there was no answer. She dialed his number two more times but still, there was no answer.
Aryana was anxious. What happened in the study? Why did Erik leave her and why was he in such a sorry state?
"I can’t believe Erik brought you here and then left you. What was he thinking? Looks like you changed your fate into something worse." Jax chuckled.
"Are you making fun of me?" Aryana looked at him gloomily.
"I am not Aryana. Why not go back to the dining table and enjoy some more wine? I am pretty sure Erik will go back and pick you up. If not, I would be more than happy to send you home."
Aryana thought that her best option was to go back. She went to the dining area with Jax. She kept in mind to be within a safe distance from him.
Meanwhile, the black Bentley cruised at maximum speed towards the Central District. Erik was driving while Ace was sitting nervously in the passenger’s seat. He was driving like mad man and Ace dared not say anything even when he heard Erik’s phone ring a few times.
"Call Marlon and Franco and tell them to meet me at The Midnight Club now." Erik’s voice was so cold that Ace shuddered.
He wanted to ask why Aryana was not with him but he dared not. He will just ask him later once they arrived at The Midnight Club.
Ace finally heaved a sigh of relief when they reached Midnight Club.
"Boss, your hand is bleeding. I’ll get the first aid kit."
"Don’t bother." Erik unbuckled his seatbelt and opened the door.
"Err boss." Ace stammered when Erik glared at him. What’s wrong with him? He seemed to be a different person.
"Do I go back and pick up Ms. Jones?" Ace asked haltingly.
Erik stiffened. How can he forget that Aryana was still in the mansion? He was too consumed by anger and hatred that he has forgotten about her.
"Yes. Send her back to the Gaeya Tower." He went inside the bar without looking back.
Ace was worried about Aryana. He did not know what happened to Erik and why he left her there on her own but knowing the complicated Lee family, she will definitely be bullied. He dialed her number.
Aryana kept glancing at her phone and Jax laughed.
"Still no call from him? Interesting." He was teasing her.
Aryana glared at him. At the same time, the screen of her cell phone lit up. Aryana was disappointed when she saw the caller ID.
Jax peeped at her phone’s screen and he laughed again when it was not Erik.
Aryana picked up the call.
"Okay. I’ll wait for you." She contemplated before asking. "How is Erik?"
"Ah, okay." She ended the call with a dejected look.
Jax raised an eyebrow when Aryana glanced at him.
"More or less, I can guess what your relationship with Erik is." He was teasing her.
"Really? I am pretty sure that your guess is not correct." Aryana replied confidently.
