Chapter 226: The Illegitimate Grandson

"Jax, what are you doing here?" Grandpa Lee asked sternly.

Previously, the patriarch acted coldly toward Jax because he did not like illegitimate children. He only forgave Jaime because the children born to Jaime were all daughters and Jaime was his first born.

When Jax took care of the banking business of the Lee Conglomerate and brought the company to another level, while Gaeya Corporation’s stocks fell after Aryana became missing, his treatment of Jax changed. He started appreciating the illegitimate grandson that he used to despise. He had his name changed to Lee and hence Jax Cuenca became Jax Lee.

"Why, Grandpa? Am I not welcome here?" Jax asked pitifully.

"That’s not what I meant. Why did you come?" The old man’s voice turned gentle.

"I need to discuss an urgent matter with Erik but I cannot find him. I tried calling him but he is not answering."

"Erik is on a business trip in China and he is working on a special project." Grandpa Lee explained. "You can discuss your business dealing with Marlon."

"Grandpa, has something happened to Erik and you are just covering for him?" Jax said as he scanned the old man’s face.

"What are you talking about? What could happen to Erik? He is really working on a project." Grandpa Lee said with conviction. ’Well, watching over his wife and waiting for his baby to be born is indeed a special project.’

"Grandpa, this deal that I need to discuss with Erik is very important. If he cannot come back then I can go to him." Jax continued to pester the old man.

"Boss Jax, I can schedule a video conference with him tonight," Marlon added. He did not know that Jax could be that stubborn. He used to be a lowly manager at Gaeya Corporation but now he was a CEO. His demeanor changed and he carried with him an aura similar to that of Erik except that he was arrogant and easily angered.

"That’s great!" Jax smiled. It was an innocent smile but how come Marlon felt that it was sinister?

"Who is going to be a father, Grandpa?" Jax asked curiously. When he was at the door, he overheard that someone was going to be a father. He thought he heard it was Erik, but how could it be him? Aryana unfortunately died. His expression turned gloomy when he remembered the incident a few months ago. If not for that tornadic waterspout, Aryana...

Unless Erik had a mistress, but it couldn’t be. Cassie could not even get to him so how could it be? Unless it was a one-night stand. Did it mean that Erik had a moment of weakness and slept with someone else?

"Ah, it is just some acquaintance that you don’t know of." Grandpa Lee said matter-of-factly.

"Grandpa, aren’t you worried about Gaeya Corporation? The stock price has not stabilized yet and Erik left again. I think Erik is not yet in the right state of mind to manage the corporation. Why don’t you let him rest for a few more months? Haven’t you seen how he lost weight? I also heard that he has stomach problems." Jax spoke in a loving manner. He appeared to care about Erik’s health.

"Erik will be worse if he is not busy with the company’s matters. Anyway, when his project is over, he should be fine."

Jax noticed the happiness in his grandfather’s voice. He sounded confident that Erik would be fine. A cold glint flashed across Jax’s eyes. He should moved fast while Erik was still mourning for Aryana which should have affected his decision process.

Marlon stood up. "Grandpa, if there is nothing else, I’ll get going."

George Lee nodded.

Marlon also nodded at Jax as he passed by him. "I’ll send the invite later."

Jax did not stay long in the Lee ancestral home. He walked leisurely to a black Maybach parked near the entrance of the mansion. He looked back to survey the vastness of the ancestral home of the Lees. Memories flashed across his mind like snippets of movies being replayed in a loop.

The person who bullied him the most was his father’s wife.

"You are not welcome here. Get out!"

"You’re so shameless, who invited you to this party."

"Jaime, if you bring that bastard child of yours here, then I and my children will leave"

Jax was the happiest when his father’s wife died in a car accident.

Everyone in that mansion was cold to him. His grandfather did not bully or mistreat him but he also did not acknowledge him and treated him like air. Wasn’t it the same as bullying? He sent him to the best school and paid for his education but wasn’t it his responsibility?

He envied his half-sisters who always had their father on school activities that required fathers to attend. He envied Erik whom his grandfather doted the most. Wasn’t he also his grandson?

But now, things are different. His grandfather doted on him and allowed him to change his last name to Lee. The opportunity to get back on the bullying he had gotten back then has come. He could not forget and he was a vengeful person.

"Boss, you looked gloomy."

Jax was brought back to the present when his assistant who was sitting in front of the car spoke.

"Rex, find out what Erik is doing in China. Old Lee told me that he is working on a special project. I know that he has a collaboration with the Zhangs there but the contract has already been signed and Marlon is back. Why did he stay?"

"On it, Boss."

"By the way, how much of the Gaeya Corporation shares have we bought?"

"Only 15% Boss. I talked to some of the shareholders and they are not willing to sell. They said that now that Erik is back, they foresee that the company’s stocks will rise again."

"If they remain stubborn, then use the ’other way’ to make them sell. We should get hold of their shares while the price is still low."

"Okay, Boss. Erik though has 30% of the share plus the 10% that his mother owns which he manages, he has 40%. We can only get hold of a maximum of 10% because the rest of the shares are held by your uncles and grandfather."

Jax breathed deeply. Erik was indeed a formidable enemy.
