Chapter 78: Uncle, let’s not discuss this...
Samson’s grip tightened around the cup, his knuckles turning white as a storm brewed in his eyes. His jaw clenched, his expression darkening with each passing second.
"Uncle, let’s not discuss this," he said, his voice dropping to an icy tone, laced with unspoken fury.
But then came Alex’s voice—gentle, probing, yet unwavering.
Samson’s eyebrow twitched as he caught the sharp glint of curiosity in his uncle’s gaze, the way he studied every flicker of emotion on his face.
"Why, Sam? She’s going to be your brother’s wife, and really—"
"Uncle Alex," Samson cut in, his voice dangerously calm, yet carrying the weight of barely contained rage. "She doesn’t deserve our family. And look at the chaos she’s causing—the news is flooded with nothing but the mess she’s dragged us into."
The words left his lips like a blade, but before his anger could fully ignite, Alex’s hand reached out, resting lightly on his own.
The touch was steady, grounding—but whether it was meant to soothe or challenge him, Samson couldn’t quite tell.
"Why exactly does the mere thought of her annoy you so much?"
Samson exhaled sharply, his fingers flexing as if trying to crush the frustration bubbling inside him.
"Because she betrayed us, Uncle. It’s not just the lies—it’s the fact that she used Big Bro for his money while stealing from our family at the same time." His voice lowered into a bitter murmur. "God knows what kind of people hide behind innocent appearances."
Alex’s expression darkened, a deep frown etching onto his face. He studied Samson carefully, as if trying to decipher the full weight of his words.
"You said she was stealing from the family... how exactly?"
At that, Samson shifted his gaze toward his uncle, his eyes gleaming with restrained anger.
"It wasn’t just about her being thrown out for lying to us. Before she was sent away, Rachel was searching for a piece of jewelry—one that had been sent to her for a major collaboration. And just when we were planning to kick Angel out, the maids discovered something."
He let out a cold chuckle, his lips curling into a grim smirk. "That very same box of jewelry was neatly packed away... in her bag."
"And are you absolutely certain she was the one who did it?" Alex asked, his voice calm but laced with quiet scrutiny.
Samson gave a firm nod, but as his eyes locked onto Alex’s, his expression darkened with bitterness.
"And do you really think she would ever admit it, Uncle?" His voice was sharp, laced with frustration. "She denied everything, of course. But what stings the most... is that I trusted her. I never thought she’d betray us like this."
There was an unmistakable weight in his tone—disappointment, anger, and something dangerously close to heartbreak.
For a long moment, Alex said nothing. He simply watched Samson, his eyes thoughtful, searching.
Then, without a word, he reached out, his fingers brushing against Samson’s wrist as he gripped his arm lightly.
In doing so, a glimpse of ink peeked from beneath Samson’s sleeve—a snake tattoo. Alex’s gaze lingered on it, curiosity flickering in his eyes, though he said nothing about it.
Instead, he met Samson’s stare with quiet resolve.
"I know what you’re doing," Alex finally spoke, his voice softer now. "You’re shutting people out, guarding yourself because you refuse to be betrayed again. And I get it. It’s understandable—completely understandable." He paused, his tone growing firmer. "But listen to me, Samson. Trust your brother. Your family has chosen to accept her again, and I want you to do the same. Not for her. Not because she’s marrying your brother. But because you love him. And if this is what makes him happy... then maybe, just maybe, you should let go of this resentment."
Samson inhaled sharply, his jaw tightening. A war raged inside him, but with visible effort, he forced his lips into a small, reluctant smile.
"I’ll... think about it," he muttered, the words tasting bitter on his tongue.
"Okay then," Samson muttered, forcing a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes.
Alex tapped him lightly on the arm, a small gesture of reassurance. "You know what? Why don’t we check—"
Before he could finish his sentence, a voice cut through the room. Arthur’s words rang out from the television, drawing their attention like a sudden jolt of electricity.
Samson’s brow furrowed in confusion as he processed what he had just heard.
His pulse quickened, and before he could stop himself, he blurted out, "Wait... how is that possible?"
His voice carried a mix of disbelief and shock, instantly drawing Alex’s gaze.
Alex’s expression mirrored his own—perplexed, wary. "Could it be... that your brother knew about her past relationship with him?" Alex asked, his tone cautious, almost disbelieving.
Samson’s head snapped toward him, eyes wide. "No," he said, shaking his head, his confusion only deepening. "That can’t be right... can it?"
The air between them grew heavy with unspoken questions, the weight of a truth neither of them had been prepared for settling in.
He knew his brother well—flaws and all. And no matter the circumstances, there was no way he would ever stoop that low.
"Could it be that there’s something we’re not seeing?" Samson murmured, his mind racing through possibilities.
Alex nodded thoughtfully. "I think you’re right. You should ask your brother about this—get the truth straight from him. And while you’re at it, let him know I’m just as curious about what’s really going on."
His voice was gentle but firm, laced with quiet concern.
Samson exhaled and gave a slow nod. "You’ll definitely hear from me about his response, Uncle. I promise."
Alex clapped him lightly on the shoulder, a small attempt to ease the tension in the room.
"Good. Now, let’s clear the air. We need something else to focus on before this whole situation eats us alive."
A faint smile ghosted across Samson’s lips. Maybe a distraction was exactly what he needed—at least for now.
