Chapter 155: The after math of the security...

Then, suddenly, something seemed to click in his mind. His eyes widened slightly as realization struck.

"The phone," he blurted out, turning to her sharply. "Did you take it with you?"

Sophia stiffened at his words, her heart skipping a beat as she processed his question. The urgency in his voice sent a chill down her spine.

She had no idea why—but she knew, whatever it was, it mattered more than she had realized.

Jude’s voice cut through the air the moment he suddenly realized the gravity of the situation. His sharp tone made Sophia instinctively lower her gaze, following his words to the subject of discussion. And then, in that split second, the realization hit her like a wave—she had lost the phone.

Her heart clenched as she slowly lifted her head, her eyes locking onto Jude’s. A deep breath steadied her, and then, with an almost serene calmness, she shook her head.

"No... I must have left it behind," she admitted softly.

A pang of guilt gnawed at her chest, knowing that the device could have been useful to him in some way. Just as worry started creeping into her thoughts, Jude’s next words interrupted them, offering her an unexpected sense of relief.

"Thankfully, you lost it. That phone is the only thing Arthur could have used to track you," Jude stated firmly, his eyes searching hers for understanding.

Sophia let out a breath she hadn’t realized she was holding. A strange sense of calm washed over her, knowing that, at least for now, she had managed to slip through Arthur’s grasp. And if everything went according to plan, she could even help them save Angel from his clutches as well.

Her lips parted slightly before she finally spoke, her voice laced with remorse. "I’m so sorry... I never meant to cause all this trouble." Even as she said it, she couldn’t shake the feeling that, in some way, she had distracted them from their true goal.

Jude, however, was quick to shake his head. "No, you don’t have to blame yourself for any of this. In fact, thanks to you, we finally have a real chance to get to Angel. Right now, the most important thing is making sure you’re safe. If we can guarantee that, then Arthur won’t be able to lay a hand on you. He’ll be suspicious the moment he realizes we’ve taken you out of his driver’s reach, but that gives us the advantage." His voice was firm yet reassuring, his words meant to erase any doubt or guilt lingering in her mind.

Sophia listened in silence, taking in the weight of his words. He was right—what mattered most now was finding Angel. And as much as she had feared being a burden, she now realized she was a key piece in this puzzle.

Jude, lost in thought for a moment, suddenly frowned as something dawned on him. He turned slightly, his gaze resting on her with a quiet curiosity. He had been so caught up in the urgency of the situation that he hadn’t even stopped to ask the most basic question.

With a calm yet inquisitive voice, he finally spoke.

"I didn’t even think to ask for your name. So, what might it be?" Jude asked, his voice laced with curiosity as he studied her.

Sophia’s lips curled into a dazzling smile, her eyes momentarily lighting up before she answered, "Sophia."

Jude gave a small nod. "Well, it’s nice to meet you, Sophia. For now, we’ll be taking you to a safe house—at least until you’ve had some time to recover. Then, once you’re ready, we can go over everything that happened with Arthur properly." His tone was calm, almost reassuring, as he tried to ease her into the situation.

Sophia responded with a small nod, though a part of her couldn’t ignore the way Jude’s eyes lingered on her. There was something about his gaze that made her feel both flustered and self-conscious, and before she realized it, warmth was rushing to her cheeks. When he finally looked away, she instinctively touched her face, feeling the heat that had settled there. To hide her embarrassment, she turned toward the window, letting the quiet of the room fill the space between them.

Meanwhile, Jude’s thoughts drifted elsewhere. He knew he needed to contact Tryson—he hadn’t spoken to him since the previous night, and it was starting to weigh on him. The last time they talked, Tryson had been waiting on Moore’s analysis of the blood test he had done for Tryson. Jude had wanted to follow up, but everything changed the moment Sophia’s call came in.

Since then, he had been trying to reach Tryson, hoping to get an update, but strangely, Tryson hadn’t answered. It wasn’t like him to go silent, especially given the urgency of their situation. Tryson knew he had been working alongside Kelvin, doing everything they could to track down Angel. But even so, he had expected at least some sort of response.

Now, a new concern gnawed at him—what was Tryson up to that was keeping him from checking in? And, more importantly, was he in trouble?

With Sophia now in their care, this was their best shot at reaching Angel. Yet, something was off—Tryson had been unresponsive to his calls, an unusual behavior for the man Jude knew.

He couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong. The more he thought about it, the more his gut told him that Tryson’s sudden silence wasn’t just coincidence.

Jude’s unease grew, and without a second thought, he turned sharply toward the driver. "Get me to Tryson’s house. Change of plans," he instructed, his voice crisp and urgent. The words slipped from his mouth without hesitation, but as they did, he noticed Sophia’s gaze flicker toward him, catching the shift in their direction.

"Is there a problem?" Sophia asked, her voice tinged with concern, her eyes searching his for any hint of trouble.

Jude didn’t try to sugarcoat it. He didn’t have the luxury of time. "We’re heading to Tryson’s house instead," he said plainly, his tone making it clear there were no further details to be shared at the moment.
