THE BILLIONAIRE STILL WANTS HER! -
Chapter 146: The After Events
Chapter 146: The After Events
Angel sat by the couch, her body sinking into the plush cushions as she stared blankly into the dimly lit room.
The weight of exhaustion pressed against her chest, and though a thousand thoughts swirled in her mind, not a single word escaped her lips.
The silence wrapped around her like a heavy blanket, pulling her deeper into the stillness of the night.
Her eyelids grew heavier with each passing second, her mind drifting further into oblivion until, at last, she surrendered to sleep.
Morning arrived with golden rays piercing through the sheer curtains, casting soft patterns of light across the room.
The door creaked open gently, and a faint smile tugged at the lips of the man standing in the doorway.
Arthur.
His sharp gaze lingered on Angel, taking in the way her hair cascaded over her shoulders, the way her peaceful expression contrasted the fire he knew burned within her when she was awake.
For a fleeting moment, admiration flickered in his eyes—until reality came crashing back. She was not the one he was here for, not the one demanding his attention right now.
Letting out a quiet breath, Arthur reached for the doorknob, carefully shutting the door behind him.
But just as the latch clicked into place, Angel’s eyelashes fluttered, her eyes blinking open.
Instinctively, she stared at the door, her mind sharpening as she became aware of the fact that Arthur had been there—watching.
Meanwhile, Arthur strode down the dimly lit hallway, his steps firm and unhurried.
Without hesitation, he pushed open another door, his sharp eyes immediately locking onto the figure crumpled on the floor.
Sophia.
Her body was curled in on itself, her arms wrapped around her knees as she trembled.
The way she clenched at her limbs, the way her breath hitched—she was clearly fighting off something unbearable, something tearing through her system like fire.
Arthur exhaled slowly, stepping closer. His expression remained unreadable, his voice laced with cold indifference as he studied her.
"What now?" he asked, his tone devoid of concern.
As Arthur reached for Sophia, his gaze darkened with sheer disdain, his lips curling ever so slightly in an expression of cold detachment.
For a moment, it seemed as if he might do something cruel—something vile.
His hand lifted, fingers poised midair, but instead of striking or pushing her away, he pressed his palm against her neck, his touch deceptively light. He was merely checking her temperature.
"Do you want the doctor to come in?" Arthur asked, his voice disturbingly casual, as if her pain was nothing more than a minor inconvenience.
A weak, bitter growl escaped Sophia’s throat. Her body trembled, her face contorted with agony as she forced her heavy-lidded eyes open, glaring up at him with resentment.
"Why are you like this, Arthur?" she rasped, her voice hoarse yet laced with fury. "Don’t you understand that I’m feeling this way because of the child I’m carrying? I’m in pain—unbearable pain."
For a fleeting second, she hoped he would show a sliver of concern. But instead, she watched as he scoffed, his expression unreadable yet utterly dismissive, as if her suffering was nothing more than an inconvenience.
Arthur exhaled slowly, shaking his head.
"I warned you," he said, his tone maddeningly calm. "I told you long ago to rid yourself of this... foolish idea. You should have never considered carrying this child. No matter how much you try to convince yourself that you can handle it, you won’t. You can’t. This child wasn’t meant to be born—it exists only to ruin everything I’ve spent years building."
His hand moved then, fingers gliding through her tangled hair in a mockingly gentle gesture, a contrast to the venom in his words.
Sophia’s breath hitched. A sharp, ice-cold realization settled deep within her chest as she stared at him, truly seeing him for what he was.
Her lips parted, her voice barely above a whisper, yet the words cut through the heavy silence like a blade.
"You’re a monster."
And in that moment, she wasn’t afraid of him—not anymore.
After everything she had endured—all the heartbreak, the suffering, the torment—this was too much.
The weight of this pain crushed her from the inside out, suffocating her like an invisible force she couldn’t fight. She had been stripped of so much already, but this... this was unbearable.
He needed to know. He needed to feel the very agony he had so carelessly thrust upon her. If he could not suffer as she had, then at the very least, she would make him hear it—force him to acknowledge the cruelty of his actions.
She wanted him to feel the rage boiling within her, wanted him to drown in the same torment that threatened to consume her whole.
But then, instead of guilt, instead of remorse, Arthur simply nodded, his expression eerily composed. His voice was smooth, almost detached, as he spoke.
"You should be grateful," he said, his tone laced with something that made her stomach twist. "Grateful that I see you as a diligent wife. I understand the pain women claim to feel when they lose a child, but trust me, I am doing everything within my power to protect you. Above all else, I am ensuring that I fulfill my promise to you. I told you, didn’t I? I wouldn’t make you an obligation."
He paused, studying her reaction, then forced a small, calculated smile, as if that alone could convince her of his twisted sense of care.
"Besides, why don’t you see it? I am giving you something greater—something far more important than the life of a mere wife to a CEO. I am trying to ensure that you live a life beyond suffering, something far grander than what you’ve known."
His words landed like daggers, each syllable deepening the wound inside her. Sophia felt her breath hitch, her chest tightening as she struggled to form the words that clawed at her throat.
Her voice was barely above a whisper when she finally breathed out the only question that mattered.
"Angel... what about her child?"
