Chapter 135: Prepare the room...

The instant Sophia uttered those words, a slow, almost imperceptible smile flickered across Arthur’s lips, carrying with it an unmistakable air of mischief.

His gaze locked onto hers, dark and unreadable, as if savoring the moment before delivering a response.

But just as he parted his lips to speak, the sudden vibration of his phone shattered the tension in the air.

Sophia watched as Arthur reached into his pocket with practiced ease, retrieving the device.

Yet, even as he answered the call, his piercing gaze never wavered from her, a silent indication that he was still deeply attuned to their conversation.

He didn’t say a word.

His silence stretched on, the only sound filling the space between them being the faint murmurs of the person on the other end.

It was clear—he was simply waiting, allowing the speaker to deliver the information he sought.

Then, just as the call neared its end, a shift occurred.

The sharp, dangerous glint in Arthur’s eyes softened into something far more chilling—a slow, satisfied smile that spoke volumes. Whatever he had just learned, it had delighted him.

"Alright then," he said smoothly, his voice carrying a certain finality. "It looks like the real work is about to begin." And with that, he ended the call.

Sophia’s breath hitched as she observed him, her mind racing with questions she dared not voice.

What was going through his head? Why did his expression make her stomach twist with unease?

Before she could even begin to piece together the puzzle, Arthur turned his full attention back to her, his tone laced with something both teasing and ominous.

"You want to know what I’m going to do?" He tilted his head slightly, as if amused by her apprehension. "Well, I suppose you’ll just have to wait and see. But in the meantime..." His smirk widened. "I suggest you keep your mouth exactly where it belongs. If you do, I might consider granting you the space you deserve."

Sophia swallowed, her throat suddenly dry. "You got what you always wanted?" she asked hesitantly, her voice barely above a whisper.

Arthur merely nodded, his smile deepening, sending an eerie shiver down her spine.

Something was wrong. Terribly wrong.

For reasons she couldn’t quite explain, dread curled in the pit of her stomach, thick and heavy. Whatever was about to unfold, she knew—she felt—it wouldn’t end well.

Her lips parted as she forced out the question lingering in her mind. "What did you do?"

The moment the words escaped, she regretted them. Her tone had been too shaky, too cautious, as though she feared angering him.

Arthur, however, didn’t seem fazed. If anything, his amusement only grew. Without a word, he casually placed her meal down on the couch, his movements deliberate, calculated.

And in that moment, Sophia understood.

She had just stepped into something far bigger than she ever anticipated.

Arthur stared deeply into Sophia as he took a slow, deliberate step closer. The intensity in his gaze sent a shiver racing down her spine, an eerie feeling creeping into her very soul.

Instinctively, she withdrew, her body stiffening as if it could shield her from the unknown danger lurking behind his expression.

Seconds stretched between them, thick and suffocating, as Arthur simply stood there, watching her with an unreadable smirk.

The silence felt almost calculated, as if he were savoring her unease.

Then, without warning, it was as if a switch flipped inside him. Like a puppet breaking free from invisible strings, he straightened, adjusting his posture with an unsettling ease.

Sophia’s gaze never left him, tracking his every move.

She watched, tense and wary, as he turned on his heel and began walking toward the door, his entire demeanor exuding indifference.

It was as though nothing she had said—nothing she could say—mattered to him.

A hollow numbness settled over her, her mind processing everything as though she were trapped in a nightmare, one where she desperately wanted to wake up but couldn’t.

Just as Arthur reached for the door handle, Sophia found her voice, desperation slipping into her tone.

"At least pardon Angel," she pleaded. "She’s innocent—she doesn’t know anything about this."

For a brief moment, she thought he might react, that he might show a shred of mercy. But then Arthur smirked, the same infuriating, dismissive smirk that made it clear her words meant nothing.

With a smooth twist of the knob, he pulled the door open and stepped out without another glance.

The second he was gone, the dam inside Sophia broke.

Her chest tightened, and before she could stop herself, a quiet sob slipped past her lips. Everything—the weight of the situation, the suffocating helplessness—came crashing down at once.

What was happening?

The overwhelming emotions churned inside her—hatred, anxiety, dread. It was like standing on the edge of a storm, knowing something catastrophic was brewing just beyond the horizon.

Meanwhile, Arthur strolled through the vast halls of the mansion, his steps unhurried, his mind already shifting to the next phase of his plan. It wasn’t long before he found Aiden waiting for him.

"You must have told her the truth, didn’t you?" Aiden asked, his sharp gaze unwavering. "Angel suddenly has a burning hatred for Tryson. I take it that wasn’t a coincidence?"

Arthur’s smirk deepened as he casually pocketed his hands, glancing at Aiden with a knowing look.

"I had to make sure she was prepared for what’s coming," he said simply, his tone carrying an air of finality.

Aiden nodded, as if already expecting that response. "Well, now that she’s signed the documents, everything is in motion. The work will be done, and the divorce papers will be in your wife’s hands soon."

The two men stepped out of the mansion together, walking side by side toward the car park. Their men were already waiting, standing beside the sleek black vehicles with the doors open, ready for their departure.

Arthur exhaled through his nose, a glint of satisfaction in his eyes. "Angel must have been convinced that what we’re doing is going to work."

Aiden let out a short chuckle. "That was thanks to the video," he admitted. "She hesitated at first, but the moment she saw it? I saw the rage ignite in her eyes."

Arthur’s smirk didn’t waver as he approached his car. Everything was falling into place.

And there was no turning back now.

"Isn’t it wonderful?" Arthur mused, his tone laced with mock sympathy. "Riley played her part flawlessly, ensuring Angel did exactly what she was meant to. I can only imagine how much it must have hurt her. Poor soul."

He feigned concern for a fleeting second before his lips curved into a smirk, amusement glinting in his eyes.

Without missing a beat, he reached into the pocket of his suit, pulling out a sleek pair of shades. With effortless ease, he slid them over his face, masking whatever expression lingered beneath.

As they arrived at their respective cars, Arthur turned his attention to Aiden, a devilish gleam playing at the edge of his smirk.

"But now," he drawled, his voice rich with mischief, "it’s time to prepare the room for my new bride."

And with that, he stepped into his waiting car, slipping inside with an air of satisfaction as the door shut behind him.
