The Beautiful Boss's Personal Bodyguard -
Chapter 467 - 466
Chapter 467: 466
The plot seems all too familiar. Ye Tian raised his eyebrows, "The accident this time couldn’t possibly be orchestrated by a single hand as well, right? Messing up one’s own plan and then taking the opportunity to take over?"
"What you said is only partially correct, but what you’re saying is exactly what I was thinking. Those troublemakers were brought in by me, and they did a pretty neat job. But just like you told me before, it always feels like we are just acting, right? That’s correct, this is all an act. But I’m not the director. Do you know who is?" He was about to keep Ye Tian guessing but, seeing Ye Tian’s wide-open eyes, he swallowed the words he was about to say, "Actually, it’s the very person we want to take down."
"Jenny’s dad?"
"Right. Her dad. In fact, it was his idea that he shared with me, then sent me directly to carry it out. After consulting with the family, they just told me to follow the plan. Do you remember what I told you about what the U.S. military is studying? All that stuff about Huaxia’s ’The Book of Changes’ and Bagua, I’m here this time to find those things."
"Don’t tell me this Jade Seal is what you’re looking for."
Ye Tian picked up a photo from the table and said.
"That’s just one of them. This thing isn’t a Jade Seal, it’s called the Ghost Seal. Legend has it that it’s used to connect Hell with the Human World. It also grants greater power to whoever wields it. But there’s a problem—if the holder of the Seal is not strong enough or if their constitution and mind are weak, they will be devoured by the Ghost Seal and die. The U.S. military is actively collecting these legendary artifacts with Spiritual Power from around the world, in order to extract the power within and change the physical nature of their Super Soldiers. Thus, they aim to create defensive forces beyond traditional military power. This is their plan, and it’s also the current focus of the Mercenary team. There’s one more thing I should remind you of—the mystical Eastern country is a major target of their attention, especially Huaxia. They’re already arranging for various foreign-funded enterprises to acquire valuable antiques and then bring them back home for research."
Until he finished speaking, Ye Tian was still looking at him coldly, "You actually believe this crap? When you were a mischievous kid, your mom used to tell you that troublemaking children would be taken away by demons, but I never saw you listen to her then."
Chu Tianying didn’t argue, but extended his finger and produced a blue flame and said, "Then how do you explain this?"
The ghostly light flickered from his finger, jumping as if alive, insistent on asserting its existence in the room.
When the flame vanished, all that was left was Ye Tian’s slightly surprised face.
"Captain, I know deep down you believe in their existence, otherwise you wouldn’t go looking for those old war buddies. It must’ve been those old timers back home who told you something, I can guess it was probably the same kind of job as I’m doing, also looking for these things, right? The gleam in your eyes when you see these photos, not just I can tell, but even that arms dealer would notice them; it’s like a starved beggar seeing roasted chicken and meat."
"Is it that exaggerated?"
"Yes, absolutely!" A starving person can’t hide their desire upon seeing food—it’s innate, you cannot fight against nature or you’ll go mad eventually. Nietzsche said he himself was like the sun, and yet in the end didn’t he also become mad and then die? Ye Tian didn’t want to become a madman, but he couldn’t simply ignore the feeling welling up from the depths of his heart.
Seeing himself exposed, Ye Tian didn’t mind, it was good enough that the kid told him the truth. From the day of the riot, Ye Tian had wondered why someone who normally ran faster than a rabbit would leisurely drift in the crowd and also developed a relationship with Jenny. Although he wasn’t interested in the same gender, Chu Tianying really didn’t care much for women, but this time he was extremely eager—almost as if he wanted to pack Ye Tian up and send him off as a gift, making a surefire deal!
With that said, things became clear. In fact, there was nothing too surprising, and Ye Tian understood him. If the roles were reversed, he’d probably be harsher, simply abandoning him here, and might even have him risk retrieving the goods.
Seeing Ye Tian was not angry, Chu Tianying moved in closer, "Captain, do you know who the curator of the National Museum is?"
"Jenny’s dad, obviously. If I can’t even guess that, I shouldn’t be your captain. But from your tone, are you suggesting I make a mistake?"
"It’s bad to miss out on an advantage!" Chu Tianying declared solemnly, as if he could pound his chest until it was bruised.
"This isn’t an advantage; this is a death trap!"
Ye Tian said indifferently, not taking his sentiment and then asking, "Can’t we go get it ourselves without relying on her dad?"
"Yes, but the chance is very slim."
"What, it’s just more infrared and ultraviolet stuff, right? We just cut the power and then those lines are useless." Ye Tian spoke nonchalantly. He always scorned the gags in movies where they overly cautiously navigate through a maze of infrared lines, thinking to himself, just cut off the fuse in the electric box.
Hearing Ye Tian’s reasoning, Chu Tianying felt that his captain really was only suited for guerrilla warfare out in the wilderness and killing.
"They have independent power supplies, not connected to the power in the house. You don’t know, so don’t talk nonsense."
Not paying him any mind, Ye Tian just smirked. He didn’t know, so he stopped talking.
"Let’s first plan how to get close to that lady’s dad, then figure out how to get the keys to the museum so we can sneak in and steal stuff."
That’s too simplistic. Ye Tian shook his head, "It won’t be that easy."
"If it was easy, why would I need you?"
Suddenly remembering something, Ye Tian abruptly looked up and asked, "After we get the stuff, does it belong to you or to me? Hey kid, are you bringing business to my head now?"
Chu Tianying gave him a glance, stood up, picked up the photos from the table, and laid them out on the bed one by one, deliberately placing a few well-shot photos at the front. The common trait among these photos was that the camera was focused on the skull-shaped emblem atop the Ghost Seal.
"Come over and look..."
Ye Tian swatted his hand away, continuing to say, "Cut the crap, kid, you still haven’t answered. Who gets to keep the stuff after we get our hands on it?"
