The Beautiful Boss's Personal Bodyguard -
Chapter 306
Chapter 306: 306
As soon as she entered, she went straight to the counter, muttering something to herself, but her voice was too low to make out, it sounded like chanting. However, the people in front of the counter would either walk away with a cup to fetch water or leave with their workbooks, no one was willing to serve the old lady.
Mo Yan was no fool, of course, she knew about such matters.
"What’s the meaning of this? Have you brought me here to witness the suffering of the common folk?"
Ye Tian shook his head, "You don’t know anything, don’t talk nonsense if you don’t know."
"Look at how arrogant you are, as if you’re the only one who knows."
"In any case, I know more than you do. Without me, you wouldn’t even be able to drink water."
With just a few words, Ye Tian silenced Mo Yan.
It seemed the old lady was accustomed to this situation, as she got up and walked towards the seats in the hall. There were only Ye Tian and Mo Yan in the hall, so the old lady sat opposite them, with a distance of five meters between them. Her eyes were dull, and her fingers were bent like chicken claws.
Mo Yan scrutinized the somewhat neurotic old lady up and down and then glanced over at Ye Tian, her eyes filled with confusion.
"Do you want to know what happened?" Ye Tian didn’t look at her, asking the question to himself while holding an unlit cigarette between his fingers. It seemed like he wanted to smoke but didn’t dare to.
"I don’t want to."
Mo Yan really didn’t want to deal with these people. On the surface, they looked pitiful, but in reality, they were either seduced by others or intentionally trying to swindle, and there were always some troublemakers stirring things up behind the scenes. The more you engage with them, the more emboldened they become. It’s best to ignore them. Even if there were truly pitiable people, she had no interest in listening to their grievances. There were too many pitiable people to individually accommodate. It just couldn’t be done. One must focus on the main contradictions, sacrifice the less important for the critical, forsake oneself for the greater good. This is the ultimate strategy. Treating only the symptoms and not the cause can only relieve temporary pain.
Ye Tian gave her a look, his eyes hiding an unconcealable disdain, "I want to."
Ye Tian ignored Mo Yan and walked straight to the old lady sitting across from them. Upon reaching her, he sat down by her side. The old lady tilted her head, one shoulder higher than the other, her face deathly pale.
"Madam, what brings you here?" Ye Tian had thrown his cigarette into the trash on his way over, and now he held a cup of water in his hands, warm water— the bank was still quite humane.
When the old lady heard someone speaking next to her, she mechanically turned her head to give Ye Tian a glance, her eyes filled with confusion and unfocused as if there might be some mental issues. Then, just as mechanically, she turned her head away again, her lips moving slightly, mumbling something that Ye Tian couldn’t quite catch.
"Madam, please have some water."
The old lady didn’t move, still sitting there tilted to the side.
"If you don’t want to drink, you can hold it to warm your hands."
Whether she was really thirsty or her hands were that cold, the old lady took the cup from Ye Tian’s hand. Ye Tian smiled with relief only for the old lady to throw the cup back at him. With quick reflexes, Ye Tian managed to block it, and the paper cup overturned, spilling hot water on his thigh. Fortunately, the thick coat Mo Yan had brought prevented the water from scalding his skin, although his hand turned red. Mo Yan let out a cold laugh, having grown up watching "Thick Black Theory," her heart was not so fragile.
Ye Tian, without anger or annoyance, wiped off the water from his coat, bent over to pick up the disposable cup, and placed it to the side. He then looked at the old lady again. If she could throw water, it meant her nerves were fine; at least, she had a sense of self-defense.
"Madam, rest assured, I am here to help you. We have no ill intentions towards you," he said, pointing at Mo Yan who was sitting opposite him when he mentioned ’we’, "This is our leader, from a law firm, specializes in fighting lawsuits for us common folks."
"Do you want money?"
Hey, no one’s foolish when it comes to money.
Ye Tian hurriedly said, "No need for money, no need for money, we’re all volunteers here, we don’t take money from the common folks, ma’am, if you have any complaints, feel free to tell us."
"What ma’am, I’m only fifty." Perhaps because Ye Tian’s sales pitch wasn’t as good as Mo Yan’s, the old lady... the auntie walked straight over to the other side, looking for the "leader".
"Are you the leader?"
A distinct old person’s sour smell wafted over, making Mo Yan cringe at the thought of how bad it would be if it were summer, possibly attracting flies.
"Auntie, if you have anything, just speak directly to our leader."
Mo Yan wasn’t unyielding; she was just playing along and actually wanted to see what Ye was up to. "Ye, there are too many people here, you first help the auntie out to find a place, I’ll come over in a bit."
Before Ye Tian had the chance to agree, the auntie had already distanced herself, "You are not any leaders at all, not at all!"
Damn, even this is seen through! Ye Tian couldn’t help but admire the high quality and keen observational skills of the subjects under the Emperor’s feet.
"You are just like this charity organization, all deceivers, all tricking me, you just want to send me away, hmph, I’m not leaving!"
Looking at the old lady’s somewhat hysterical behavior and her messy dry hair, Ye Tian and the other person could probably understand—wasn’t this a petitioner coming to seek justice?
"What’s the fuss about? Huh, it’s you again?" Banks always need someone to maintain order, and two security guards came over. It was just a sub-branch, not a big place, no need for too many security guards.
"Ma’am, how many times have we told you, our place is a bank, not the fund you’re looking for, you’ve got the wrong place."
The words were polite, but the actions of the two security guards were not as gentle, each grabbing one of the old lady’s arms and walking her out without her feet even touching the ground, her entire body lifted into the air.
Mo Yan frowned, but didn’t speak, Ye Tian also stayed silent, watching coldly from her side until the old lady was dragged out and fell into the snow. Mo Yan finally couldn’t help but wave her hand, "Go, go, go, help the old lady up."
"I’m not going."
Mo Yan glared, "Don’t pull this trick on me, just looking for trouble for no reason. Am I so free that I’d entertain these antics with you?"
Ye Tian felt quite entranced by her glaring.
"Stop."
The two security guards turned and saw a woman, neither paid her any mind, and continued walking. Ye Tian stepped forward to block them, "How can you treat an old lady like this? Have you no heart?"
The two security guards seemed decent as well, and one said, "Brother, this old lady is making a scene here, it’s not a solution, we asked her family to come and deal with it, but no one responded to us. The higher-ups asked us to eliminate the disturbance, we have no choice. Who would willingly lay hands on an old lady?"
That made sense.
Ye Tian asked, "Could you two gentlemen explain what exactly is going on? We’re from the TV station, and we’re planning to do a feature on grass-roots activities soon, so we’d also like to get some news material from you both."
