The Beautiful Boss's Personal Bodyguard -
Chapter 298
Chapter 298: 298
"Fucking hell! Treating us like beggars."
Seeing the bits and bobs in Ye Tian’s hands, the one with the swagger stick wrapped his arm around Ye Tian, trapping him under his armpit, and quickly led him down a secluded alley. The white-curled old lady suddenly became much more spry and scampered after the group, unafraid of slipping on the snow-covered ground.
Ye Tian was shoved into a dead-end alley, blocked by four sturdy youths and an elderly woman in the middle.
Professional, aren’t they?
Broad daylight and clear skies, and this shit is happening right under the fucking Emperor’s nose!
Dealing with a few scamming hooligans is nothing, but sadly, the old lady not only didn’t get any money, her IC card was snatched away too. Luckily, the buzz-cut guy didn’t seem too interested in the cash.
As he was about to leave, Ye Tian glimpsed a gold chain. He yanked it down with his hand, squeezed it - fuck! Just as I thought. And it’s plastic too, not even ashamed of looking like an idiot!
Taking a turn, the alley’s entrance was blocked with piles of snow, swept there by the nearby residents. The trees by the roadside were only five meters or so away, but nobody was willing to sweep the snow into the tree pits. Ye Tian bet even if it was just a meter more, they wouldn’t bother pushing the snow into the pits.
His mood, just on the upswing, was ruined by the sudden appearance of some hooligans, causing a surge of frustration in Ye Tian.
"Nobody hurt, right?"
Mo Yan caught up with him right out of the alley, clearly having followed him over. Ye Tian wasn’t angry; this was their turf, after all.
"No. Just took a card."
He shook the IC card, then stuffed it into his trouser pocket.
"This is registered under real-name. You’d better be careful."
"I want to see Tang Su." The words had barely left Ye Tian’s mouth when he regretted it, grateful that Mo Yan didn’t embarrass him by responding. Somewhat helpless, he stopped in his tracks, "You guys should give me something to do."
"It’s not the right time yet. If you’re feeling restless, you might as well head back. Once the person is healed, we’ll contact you."
"...You didn’t say that in the beginning."
"The beginning was the beginning, now is now."
"You’re playing me?"
"Who the fuck do you think you are?"
Mo Yan stood her ground, staring at him with a sharp aura returning to her, abandoning her initial conciliatory tone and adopting a take-it-or-leave-it attitude. Ye Tian felt torn; this she-devil was far more potent than she looked and, paradoxically, quite temperamental. At the start, the deal was clear: he’d work for her, and if things went well, everyone would be happy; if not, and he lost his life, it’d be nobody’s fault but his own. But now, she was acting like a complete hooligan. Leave now? Where to? Run away and leave Tang Su here? Bullshit!
Frustrated yet impotent.
Mo Yan’s phone rang. Ye Tian squatted by the wall, waiting for her to finish the call and then tried to find out if there was a chance to earn some money. He came out with no money on him, and calling Pig Hu over would likely be impossible at the moment.
"Don’t worry, I’ll be right there."
Seeing her hang up, Ye Tian approached, "Could you possibly..."
"Come with me."
"..."
Fuck! Putting on airs for whom?
If it wasn’t for all these concerns, Ye Tian would’ve dared to throw this madam onto Pig Hu’s bed and let her experience what a certain man who has been starved for thirty years could do in bed.
"What are you daydreaming about, come on!"
"I’m not going." Ye Tian stood still, then turned and walked away in the opposite direction when he saw Mo Yan looking back at him.
Mo Yan, fuming, stomped her feet and unwillingly followed, "Stop right there!"
Ye Tian simply stood there. If not for Tang Su, he would have already left. This torturous life wasn’t what he wanted. If there’s something to say, spit it out. Dangerous or not, it’s not like you’re the one going, yet you’re still hiding things from me. Just thinking about it pissed Ye Tian off.
"Why won’t you come?" she asked accusingly.
"I have enemies here. If I’m spotted, I’m dead."
"How high up?"
"Very high."
"Hmph," Mo Yan tilted her head back, strained, but still managed to snort dismissively, "In Beiping, the Mo Family calls the shots, no one can..."
"Even if you can handle... forget it, forget it. Where to? Let’s make it quick."
Mo Yan wasn’t stupid, she obviously noticed Ye Tian’s sentence was left unfinished, but now wasn’t the time to talk about it, so she let it go for now.
They hailed a taxi, and Mo Yan didn’t say where to go, just told the driver to drive forward, to take a look around.
"Out for a tourist trip?" Beiping’s cabbies are all friendly, "Where do you feel like going? I can show you around, I know all about old Beijing!"
Because both passengers sat in the back seat, neither initiated conversation, making the atmosphere awkward. Ye Tian glanced at Mo Yan, she turned her head to look at him, but still, no one spoke. Ye Tian propped his head with one arm, gazing out of the window with a bystander’s indifference, and Mo Yan was visibly annoyed by his deadbeat attitude.
"Heh heh, young couple having a spat, hmm?" The driver chuckled as he changed gears, approaching a red light and speeding up, "I see this kind all the time, run into seven or eight pairs on a busy day. They seem to be fighting fiercely, some even head straight for the Civil Affairs Bureau to get a divorce. But actually, it’s over such trivial stuff. You know how trivial? One time, the guy wanted donkey meat pancakes, and the girl wanted KFC. Just for that, they were ready to split up. I tried to talk sense into them, I said, people usually split because of cheating or car accidents, and you guys, over a piece of donkey meat and chicken, willing to divorce... isn’t that turning marriage into a joke? Heh heh."
The driver looked again; in the rearview mirror, Ye Tian still gazed out the window, and Mo Yan was still quiet. The driver laughed awkwardly and stopped talking, realizing the pair must be seriously considering divorce, with grudges this big!
Silence settled back in the taxi.
The quiet didn’t last long; it was broken by a ringing phone. Mo Yan answered, "Hello, how’s it going?"
In the confined space of the car, Mo Yan could hardly keep the conversation from Ye Tian, so she had to press the phone closer to her ear. The glance from the corner of her eye told her that Ye Tian was still looking at the outside world of Beiping. It seemed he, like every newcomer to the capital, was captivated from the first visit.
