The Beautiful Boss's Personal Bodyguard -
Chapter 181
Chapter 181: Chapter 181
Thinking of the several hundred thousand that had just slipped through his fingers because of a moment’s lapse, Li Jing felt an added measure of self-reproach. Even so, this noble man still could not betray so-called worldly society’s moral code, which, other than his sister, was the last thing he felt worth upholding.
It was a very clean and elegant little house, with vibrantly blooming chrysanthemums on the windowsill and a flourishing spider plant beside it that would have been even more lush had it not been for the weather turning cool. Evergreen hollies, extremely vigorous cacti, and a few classic orchids Li Jing had obtained from somewhere, were all rare varieties; even a small unflowered one would cost over fifty thousand yuan. This guy still embraced such bourgeois tastes - truly befitting of someone from a centuries-old prestigious family. If it weren’t because of the pale-faced little girl in front of him, Pig Hu would have almost mistaken this place for Taoyuan.
Following her brother’s instructions, she served a cup of tea to the two men, called Li Jing, and then told them her brother would be back in ten minutes.
Pig Hu didn’t mind the leafy greens stuck to his front teeth as he grinned and chuckled, "Did your brother teach you to say that?"
Li Ruoshui smiled and nodded gently.
Pig Hu’s smile grew even brighter, "Hahaha, don’t be afraid, we mean no harm, we are all your brother’s friends. He’s Zhang Kai, and I’m Hu Xiaoye. Your brother must’ve mentioned us to you before."
Seeing her shake her head shyly, Pig Hu had to laugh awkwardly, cursing Li Jing under his breath for being a bastard and no good.
The young man named Zhang Kai covered his mouth, stifling laughter, which earned him a kick from Pig Hu. Then, he resumed an expressionless face.
"I don’t care who you are, get out now."
The icy voice came from the doorway. Pig Hu’s heart lifted with joy; he was all too familiar with this voice. Heaven King of pagoda, Sword God, Cold-blooded Killing God, First Swordsman... there were numerous nicknames for him, far too many to count, but Pig Hu still preferred the name he had given him,
"Jingjing, you’re back? Why all vegetarian today? I was hoping to have a good drink with you..."
Before Pig Hu could finish, Li Jing ignored him, approached Li Ruoshui, and handed her the vegetables, "Take this to the kitchen, big brother has a little matter to sort out." Li Ruoshui obediently nodded and took the vegetables from her brother’s hand, turning to enter the kitchen.
"Let’s talk outside."
Li Jing tossed out the sentence and walked out of the house. Pig Hu gestured, and Zhang Kai followed him. This young man’s life had been saved by Pig Hu, who feared nothing and heeded only Pig Hu’s words. It was during Pig Hu’s expansive search that he had accidentally spotted him in a Zhejiang detention center and paid to bail him out. Since then, the young man had followed Pig Hu around, all the way to Jiangsu.
Pig Hu led the way, with Zhang Kai following behind. As soon as the two had stepped out, Li Jing shut the door behind them, looking at Pig Hu with icy detachment, "Hu Xiaoye, not one word more, scram while I can still contain my anger."
Li Ruoshui quietly leaned against the windowsill, carefully examining the plants and flowers there. Ever since she had contracted uremia, her brother’s beloved orchids had all been replaced with tenaciously living plants. She knew all too well her brother’s heart, but, at the same time, she felt a deep ache for her own brother.
As she grew older, she gradually realized that she had become a burden to her brother. If not for her, her brother would have been free to roam the worldly society unrestrained. With just a slight effort, he could have recovered the great reputation of the fallen Li family, but he neither wanted to nor wished to. She could understand the pain her brother had shouldered over the years, like a steed without a field to gallop in, unable to run free, forever confined to this tiny patch of the sky.
The autumn chrysanthemums were blooming brilliantly, as Ruoshui lay quietly on the windowsill, her cheeks pale, the entire autumn day seemed dimmer.
Pig Hu coughed awkwardly a couple of times, losing face in front of the juniors, which was uncomfortable for everyone.
"Ahem, uh, you know, Jingjing, about whether you want to..."
"Hu Xiaoye, I don’t know what kind of powerful and influential master you’ve found now, but I’m telling you, our relationship is nothing more than having dug up a few graves together. These things can’t stop me from breaking your bones. I don’t care how famous you are, to me, you’re nothing."
Li Jing’s first rule was that no one, except for the community auntie, was allowed to come to his house, an inviolable rule as unchanging as the perpetual snow on Heaven Mountain.
Hu Xiaoye not only came himself but also brought a stranger, hugely exceeding his limit.
Seeing his increasingly icy gaze, Hu Xiaoye felt an inexplicable chill in his heart. He knew this man too well. This was someone who truly killed people. Back when they raided tombs together, he alone intimidated all the Tomb Robbers along the Yellow River basin. With his Soft Sword, he wrought such upheaval that two or three sword techniques stirred up blood and storms on the streets of the worldly society. There was a saying on the streets: It’s not the empty grave that you fear, it’s Li Jing going crazy. Those in the tomb raiding business knew there once was a pair that swept through the tomb raiding world and almost raided Emperor Shi’s Tomb. The leaders were Pig Hu and Crazy Li.
Pig Hu was by no means certain he wouldn’t get hurt, like he had said, their relationship was really just a few dug-up graves.
"Are you not leaving?"
Li Jing narrowed his eyes and Pig Hu, with a hoarse shout, yelled, "Li Jing, I curse your ancestors, have you not thought about your sister? Even if you’re not afraid of suffering, what about her? Can you bear to let her suffer with you?" While yelling, he scurried down the stairs, distancing himself from Li Jing.
"I indeed live a so-so life, but I really don’t lack money."
Li Jing, about to turn around, suddenly saw a fist coming his way—it was Zhang Kai’s.
Humph!
Zhang Kai didn’t even see what happened before him, his body lifted as if emptied, flew into the air with ease, straight out by Li Jing’s strong hands, arcing gracefully down the stairs, caught by Pig Hu. What followed was a slap from Pig Hu hitting the back of his head.
"You dumb clod, that man’s a Sword God with his family’s unique martial arts skills, you little brat looking for trouble!"
Zhang Kai rubbed his belly and stood aside, willingly enduring Pig Hu’s wild scolding.
After Pig Hu had yelled enough, he turned and howled at Li Jing, "Crazy Li, are you really planning to live a worthless life here? The name Miao Li Town is wasted on you. Do you think your sister really wants you to toil for her whole life? Don’t think you’re so noble by doing this; it’s selfishness. What right do you have to confine someone’s entire life to this tiny room? Do you think cultivating a few potted plants and flowers on the balcony can make her happy? Planting a few cacti and sunflowers means loving life and never giving up? I can’t believe you’re a Sword God trained by a great family, and yet you resort to this kind of spiritual encouragement—it’s laughable."
