The Beautiful Boss's Personal Bodyguard -
Chapter 140
Chapter 140: Chapter 140
Master Zhang’s lips moved slightly but, in the end, he didn’t speak; instead, he gazed at the five huge stones on the ground with a somewhat vacant look, as if deep in thought.
"Dog Liu, just because you think you’re a dog doesn’t mean you can bite whoever you want. Which eye of yours saw me colluding with Master Zhang? You can eat recklessly, but speaking recklessly can kill people." As he spoke, Chen Xing’s eyes widened, as if he truly wanted to devour someone.
"Humph, am I speaking recklessly? Everybody knows Master Zhang has never lost in fifty years of gambling on stones. So how come this time there isn’t even a hint of green, not a fart! Weren’t you the one who hired him? Weren’t those lines drawn by him just now? Didn’t everything proceed exactly as he instructed? And what about earlier, your Boss Ye, only when I bid a high price did he stop calling. Isn’t this clearly setting me up? Everyone, isn’t that right?"
Although the surrounding crowd remained silent, their expressions clearly agreed with Liu Hao.
"Fine, you say you didn’t conspire? Alright, I’ll just smash these stones into pieces, one by one. If there’s any green, I’ll apologize to the old man in public, and pay him half the value of the jade. But if there’s nothing but trash inside, don’t blame me for being rude!"
Liu Hao ignored Master Zhang’s furious face and turned back to pick up the cutting machine placed on the ground. Facing the first huge stone that had been split open, without any hesitation, he cut it right through its midsection. Sparks flew since there was no water to cool it down. The blade went down, and still, there was nothing. Another cut, still nothing. He continued until the first, millstone-sized stone was completely pulverized, yet there was still nothing. Then came the second stone. Liu Hao glanced at Master Zhang, said nothing, and made the cut, continuously slicing four stones. He changed the cutting blades twice, leaving a pile of big and small shattered rocks, yet still, there was nothing.
The crowd shook their heads and sighed; only one stone was left. Given the situation, this stone was definitely a failed gamble. Normally in gambling on stone, if the first cut fails, at most a second cut is made. If that fails too, then there’s usually no hope. Liu Hao had made at least a hundred cuts now, encountering nothing but stone after stone, making it impossible for there to be any jade.
Looking at the pile of shattered stones, Liu Hao’s heart burned with rage. He threw down the cutting machine and directly picked up the sledgehammer beside him, smashing it down. Chips of stone flew everywhere, and the crowd shielded their faces with their hands. When they opened their eyes, the stone was shattered all over the ground, while the person who swung the sledgehammer sat dejectedly on the ground, staring despondently at the pile of worthless rocks.
Seventy million, all exchanged for this pile of rubbish rocks—no one could stand this!
Seeing Liu Hao throw aside the hammer, Ye Tian finally breathed a sigh of relief. The "egg" that he felt was still lying unharmed on the ground. Coincidentally, this stone was about the size of a fist, resting quietly beside Liu Hao’s foot—it was the one he had hammered down.
"Nothing, nothing at all, nothing... Chen Xing, you dare to trick me!"
Muttering to himself, Liu Hao suddenly thought of Chen Xing. He quickly stood up and rushed to Chen Xing’s face, his eyes bloodshot. Everyone held their breath for the girl with dyed yellow hair, but soon, the tense atmosphere dissipated as the flat-topped youth stepped in front of Liu Hao.
"What, want to stand up for her?" Liu Hao snarled at this oddity in a security uniform.
Ye Tian spread his arms, blocking him, "Brother, being able to win but not able to lose isn’t something a real man should do."
"I don’t give a damn whether I’m a man or not! These two tricked me together. If I don’t kill them, my last name isn’t Liu! Move aside!"
"Dog Liu, dare to mess with my granny and see if my dad won’t tear you apart!"
Ye Tian had two black lines drop on his head; this granny really has quite the temper, no wonder she gets beat up!
"Humph, your dad, isn’t he just a..."
"Hold on!" Ye Tian interrupted Liu Hao, stopping him from continuing, fearing that Chen Xing would start fighting with him, "Why do you say Master Zhang cheated you?"
"He said there was green in this stone, that’s why I bid on it."
"That’s because you chose to believe Master Zhang. Since you chose to trust, you should trust completely. Trust is the minimum requirement between people. When it benefits you, you choose to trust; when it doesn’t, you choose not to. That’s where you’re wrong. Once you choose to trust, you should follow through. If you go back on your word, how are you any different from a scoundrel..."
Ye Tian delved into a deep discussion on trust and distrust, while Liu Hao was scratching his ear, utterly confused. Behind him, Chen Xing and Master Zhang were at a loss as well, as the bystanders exchanged glances with each other, thinking, ’Is this kid okay? We’re here to do business, what’s all this about trust?’
"So, regarding Master Zhang, we should trust him consistently, and furthermore..."
"Enough, shut up. Didn’t you mention trust? Fine, since you trust Master Zhang so much, why don’t you buy all these stones? I bought them for 70 million, you can have them for 700k, how about that?"
The people around silently marveled, ’That Liu kid is really vicious.’
Often, what you see most at the gambling stone field isn’t whether jade will emerge, but selling off the worthless stones. Take the stone Liu Hao just acquired; it’s huge and could be sold even if a cut reveals nothing since the remaining part still has a significant chance to yield jade. However, if the stone turns out completely worthless like now, then it’s plainly trash. Buying worthless stones is because there’s a possibility of extracting jade, but if the chance is zero, then why bother!
Ye Tian looked at the stones by the side, shook his head, and held up a stone in his hand to Liu Hao, "This stone of mine costs only 200 bucks, yours is way too expensive."
"This rubbish stone, humph, I’d be embarrassed even if you gave it to me for free. How about this, my stones still have some mining value, and you did bid on them earlier. Seeing that you really want them and what’s more precious is your trust in Master Zhang... I’ll give you a discount, drop a zero, 70k, I’ll give ’em all to you!"
Liu Hao knew these stones were likely to be his burden, and as fierce as he talked, he really didn’t dare to mess with Master Zhang. This place was under the protection of someone named Gu Dao, rumored to have direct connections with military officials - definitely not someone to provoke.
Ye Tian frowned and walked over to the pile of stones, picked one up to look, and shook his head, "No way, the biggest stone here is only half the size of a watermelon, the chances of finding jade are too small. Fifty thousand, I’ll take them all."
