Chapter 157: Chapter 157 - The Worldwing Colossus

This Elite Demon, at the very least, stood at the level of a Gaia Grand Master.

And even if the other demons refrained from interfering in this one-on-one duel, it didn’t make this any easier. Facing him was like being locked in a storm with no end in sight.

Tave hovered mid-air, scanning the battlefield below. Vanya was holding her ground, holding off the demon horde almost entirely on her own. Not truly alone, the golem was still rampaging alongside her. But even so, her stamina and energy were finite.

No matter how vast her Echo pool was, it wouldn’t last forever.

Tave raised his weapon again, trying to catch his breath. His opponent smirked in response, sensing the strain.

Then the demon struck.

Blinding speed. Tave barely saw the blur before impact.

The clawed strike slammed into him, sending him tumbling through the sky. He managed to recover mid-spin, just in time to block the next blow.

The Elite Demon came at him again, relentless. Every strike was heavy, precise, designed to crush. Tave parried, dodged, braced. His sword sparked and groaned under the pressure.

And yet he couldn’t afford to burn Soul Fire recklessly now. The demon was too fast. He’d waste precious power on swings that missed.

And worst of all... this fight wasn’t even close to over.

"That’s more like it," the demon said.

"But still not enough." He circled slowly.

"So this is how your grand effort ends? Here, bleeding in the sky?"

He gestured downward. To the chaos below.

"To your precious golem... Tell me, do you really believe it can hold out under this pressure?"

His gaze shifted to the center of the battlefield. "To her."

"Your little lover down there. How long do you think she’ll last?" the demon taunted. "What if I let you watch her break? Watch the golem fall apart? All because of your blind confidence? You’re not saving anyone. You’re destroying them. You should’ve just waited. Sat still. Let the Rift consume you quietly."

Tave clenched his jaw. This demon talked too much. And all while their army lay in burning ruins below.

At this moment, Tave knew. He had to kill the Elite Demon. Now.

If he didn’t, he wouldn’t be able to reach Vanya in time.

Because everything the demon had said... was becoming real.

Below, the tide had turned. The massive demon force was hammering down on the golem. Relentless, from above and below. Arrows, spells, and claws rained from the skies, while the ground units swarmed like ants.

Vanya had shifted into full defense.

No more attack volleys. She had drawn deeply on her control over nature, weaving thick vines to form a barrier around herself, keeping the flying demons at bay. The elemental onslaught had stopped. She was conserving energy just to survive.

And the ground demons, some had begun climbing.

Scaling the golem like a siege tower.

Then came the impact.

A thunderous blow struck the golem’s chest. So strong it staggered, stumbling backward. For the first time, it dropped to one knee, trembling under the weight of sustained damage.

Vanya was nearly thrown.

She clung to one of the massive roots anchored to the golem’s head, the wind howling around her. Her breathing was quick, her eyes sharp. But she was clearly reaching her limit.

More winged demons closed in.

They landed on the golem’s head and shoulders, weapons drawn, wings folding as they advanced.

Then they charged.

Vanya ran, desperately trying to reposition, pulling vines around herself like armor, lashing them out to block the first wave.

But this was close combat. She wasn’t built for this.

She wouldn’t last long like this.

Tave surged forward, wings blazing, only for the Elite Demon to intercept him again, claw raised and ready.

The arc of that strike, it could kill him in a single blow.

He twisted mid-air, narrowly avoiding the full force, but the gap to Vanya remained closed.

He couldn’t reach her.

Not like this.

"You truly are naïve," the Elite Demon sneered. He hovered in front of Tave like a living wall, blocking any attempt to move forward.

"Every single one of us here is stronger than you. Pathetic."

He chuckled low in his throat, a sound thick with scorn.

"So, tell me..." he continued, "what do you think is the proper punishment for two rats who don’t know their place?"

"Because, honestly? Death feels far too kind."

And then, worse came.

The golem took a thunderous blow, one that shattered its left leg entirely. Its massive body buckled, crashing into the earth with a quake that rippled across the clearing.

Vanya barely stayed upright.

She moved quickly, now standing atop the golem’s back, trying to hold her ground as vines whipped to life around her. But she was not alone up there.

Seven demons had climbed the wreckage, now surrounding her with drawn weapons and murderous intent in their eyes.

They advanced, slowly, purposefully, ready to strike.

The demons below hadn’t stopped either. Their assault continued with ruthless efficiency.

A second blast shattered the golem’s right arm. It collapsed completely, slamming into the ground with a final, earth-shaking crash.

More demons climbed the fallen giant like ants swarming a corpse. Vanya was completely surrounded.

And Tave. Tave was no better.

The Elite Demon flared his wings wider, still grinning, still taunting. Around him, more flying demons formed a circling perimeter, boxing him in.

They were completely cornered.

Outnumbered. Outmatched.

Out of time.

Tave tightened his grip around the hilt of his sword, knuckles whitening as he scanned the sky, the ground, everything.

It was close. He could feel it. Just a little longer...

"It’s over," the Elite Demon said coldly. "Seize them both."

At his command, the flying demons raised their spears and aimed them at Tave. There was no more resistance to give. No last-minute dodge. No counterattack.

This was it.

But Tave didn’t move.

He didn’t fight back, not yet.

Because he was waiting.

He had to buy time.

Every second mattered now. Every heartbeat stretched into eternity.

And then. Just as the spears closed in, it came.

A scream. No, a roar. Ripped across the sky, so loud it tore through the clouds and split the air like a god’s fury.

A primal, thunderous cry that shook the heavens.

The demons froze mid-motion, their wings faltering. Even the Elite Demon twitched, eyes snapping upward.

The night sky, already cloaked in darkness, dimmed even further.

Not by shadow.

By something far more massive.

A sudden gust of wind slammed into the battlefield like a tidal wave. Those flying wavered, spiraling back, while demons on the ground were knocked off their feet completely.

Another roar followed. Sharper, higher, more furious. The air vibrated with it.

They all looked up.

Every single one of them.

Except Tave.

Because he already knew.

He didn’t have to look to know what was coming.

From the highest reaches of the sky, the silhouette of something immense loomed over the battlefield. Its wings spanning so far they blanketed the land in darkness.

Descending, circling, falling like a living shadow.

A creature the size of cities.

The Flying Graveyard. The Worldwing Colossus. Tier 8 Monster.

Skarathor.
