Chapter 141: Chapter 141 - Netherblaze Flames
Fireborn Wings.
Tave finally had a name for them. His Gaia Wings, officially granted by Kaelira. And with that name came a shift, a new level of control. They weren’t just borrowed power anymore; they were part of him now.
Kaelira hadn’t completely submitted, but this was a start. She had acknowledged him.
That was more than enough.
And it couldn’t have come at a better time.
Tave was already at Level 29. Just one step away. A few more kills, a few more seconds of survival. That was all it would take to push him to Level 30. To break into Gaia Master. To become something that could actually stand toe to toe with these monsters.
The Gaia Flame Mode still wasn’t clear. No system explanation. No warning. Just raw fire, burning deep in his veins, coiling around his body like it wanted to consume him just as much as it wanted to empower him.
And somehow, it worked.
It made him fit with the Fireborn Wings. Let him move with them, not just wear them. They weren’t heavy anymore. They were his.
The wings snapped open behind him, glowing with pulsing flame.
He launched into the sky with a single beat, shooting upward like a spear of fire.
Wind slammed against his face. His armor groaned under the speed. He gripped his sword tighter, heart pounding with purpose as the trees fell away beneath him.
Above, he saw her.
Panpan.
Still in the demon’s grip. Still being dragged higher into the night sky.
Tave pushed harder, wings beating fast, eyes locked on her.
This won’t be like last time. This time, I can fly.
But then. A blur in his peripheral. A flicker of movement through the trees below.
The second winged demon burst upward from the canopy, flying fast, heading straight for him.
Damn it.
Tave wouldn’t reach Panpan unless he dealt with this one first.
There was no other choice. He had to fight in the sky.
Tave beat his wings harder, trying to climb faster through the sky, but he staggered midair. Still adjusting to the unfamiliar weight and rhythm of the Fireborn Wings. They weren’t smooth yet. Every flap felt like he was fighting his own body as much as gravity.
The second demon was already closing in.
Bigger. Faster. Armed.
He carried a massive spear in one hand. Compared to Tave, the demon was at least one and a half times his size, and the reach of that spear made it almost impossible to close the distance safely.
The demon slashed through the air with the weapon, a wide arc of force coming straight at Tave.
Tave tucked his body and dove, narrowly dodging as the wind pressure grazed his shoulder.
He twisted midair, re-stabilized, and gripped his flaming sword tighter.
From above, the demon sneered.
"You think you can just fly away, little ember?" he snarled. "You’re not escaping this sky alive."
Tave tried to rise again, wings straining, but the demon was already there, lunging ahead and swinging again. Tave veered to the side, flared his wings to halt, only for the sudden stall to drop him into freefall.
His heart jumped.
He angled hard and flapped again, managing to dive and spin under the next strike.
Damn, this is harder than anything on the ground.
In the air, you couldn’t plant your feet. Couldn’t brace. Couldn’t rely on the ground to hold your stance.
The demon struck again. Tave raised his sword just in time to block.
CLANG!
The impact shook through his whole body, and he was hurled backward through the air, spinning uncontrollably. His wings beat frantically to stop the tumble.
Hold it... come on!
Tave caught himself, barely, and pushed forward again.
This wasn’t about who was stronger. It was about who could endure the sky.
He surged ahead, flames trailing behind his blade, and struck.
Steel clashed midair. The sound cracked across the open sky.
Another strike. Another deflection.
The demon clearly had more strength. Every impact forced Tave back, inch by inch.
The demon didn’t let up. Slash after slash, relentless and precise.
Tave could only dodge, dive, and circle. He was fast, but not fast enough to turn the tide.
And all the while, Panpan was being carried higher, vanishing into the clouds.
Tave clenched his teeth, rage building in his chest.
He was running out of time.
In this kind of battle, Tave couldn’t rely on ground combat techniques anymore. What worked on solid earth meant nothing here. This was a different world, one where his opponent had been born with wings and had fought in the sky his entire life.
Tave wasn’t just fighting a stronger enemy.
He was fighting someone who belonged up here.
He kept flying, trying to break away, but the demon outpaced him at every turn. Tave couldn’t outrun him, couldn’t outmaneuver him. The spear kept slashing through the air, relentless and punishing.
Each time Tave blocked, the impact sent him flying.
Each time he dodged, the blade passed too close.
He was losing ground. Fast.
I need a plan. I need something more. I need... an upgrade.
Tave flapped harder, pushing for altitude as tucked his sword away. He wouldn’t win this with brute force. Not like this.
The demon noticed, grinning. He raised his spear and swept it through the sky. Blades of energy shot out, cutting through the air with deadly speed.
Tave dove, twisting right, dropping low, wings burning from the force of it.
One of the energy waves grazed his arm.
Blood sprayed. Pain flared.
But almost immediately, he felt Kaelira’s fire surge through his veins. The wound began to close, flesh mending, bone snapping back into place.
The regeneration was working. But it wasn’t enough.
Think. Create. Build something!
He needed to make something new.
Something powerful.
Something only he could use.
His mind raced.
It’s now or die.
Tave forced his breathing to steady, hands flashing through a rapid sequence of hand seals.
[ Hand Seal Sequence Failed. No ability triggered. ]
Damn it! He gritted his teeth. He had been sure that was the right combination.
No time to panic. He tried again. Faster. More focused.
His fingers moved in a blur.
[ Hand Seal sequence recognized. ]
[ Initiating elemental merge: Shadow + Blaze. ]
[ New element created. ]
[ Netherblaze Flames – born from the underworld, spreading through shadows and feeding on fear. ]
Tave’s eyes snapped open.
"Fang!" he shouted.
In response, shadows surged from his body, dozens of tendrils lashing out in every direction, rising like whips of living smoke. They darted through the air, spiraling toward the demon.
The winged creature slashed wildly, cutting through the tendrils with ease. But they kept coming. More shadows poured out, each one reforming, hunting, distracting.
Meanwhile, Tave brought his hands together again.
In his palms, a sphere began to form, small at first, but dark and dense, veins of burning crimson pulsing like it had a heartbeat. The energy swirled violently, the flames inside laced with deep black and sickening red.
Shadow tendrils exploded outward in waves, more aggressive now, latching onto the demon’s wings, spear, and limbs, wrapping, binding.
Tave saw his moment.
He dove hard.
The demon reacted, flying just above him, passing too fast.
As it turned its spear downward to strike.
BOOM.
The tendrils detonated.
They didn’t just vanish, they transformed. Giant, writhing tentacles erupted from the explosion, layered and twisting around each other like an avalanche of dark limbs. They slammed into the demon from all sides. Twisting, stacking, crushing, wrapping like they were trying to drag him into the abyss itself.
Tave didn’t stop.
He clutched the burning sphere tighter. His body trembling from the heat, skin blistering.
He roared and hurled it straight into the core of the shadow mass.
"Netherblaze Flames!"
The orb shattered with a flash. No sound at first.
Then.
B-B BOOOOOOOM!
A deafening blast erupted midair.
Flames shot out in all directions, but not just any flames. Netherblaze. Black fire laced with veins of red lightning, devouring everything it touched. It didn’t just burn the demon’s body. It tore through his nerves, into his mind, rupturing both flesh and thought.
The scream was inhuman, raw, and full of fear. Actual fear. Not pain, but terror.
The demon writhed inside the burning tendrils, flailing helplessly as the fire sank into him, eating deeper than normal flame ever could.
But this was not finished. Tave summoned his Sword.
Now the finishing!
