Chapter 72 - 72 72 Eagle Sorrow Valley
72: Chapter 72 Eagle Sorrow Valley 72: Chapter 72 Eagle Sorrow Valley Eagle Sorrow Valley was a canyon flanked by three large mountains, with only one narrow exit leading out, and that exit was not on the same side as Heini Village.
The village itself was just a high cliff, so no one would think to look for them there.
After Ji Yang arrived with his group, they quickly headed towards that cliff.
In the darkness, the beam of their flashlights shone down.
“Chief Ji, no one will be down here,” a village cadre said at that moment.
“Be quiet,” Ji Yang hushed him as if he had heard a noise.
“Is there anyone down there?” Ji Yang shouted loudly.
“Help…”
Sure enough, a voice came from below.
“There really is someone!”
Everyone was astonished; in fact, they had come to this spot during the day but had left after a cursory look, never imagining someone might be below.
Ji Yang was also surprised, but now was not the time to think too much, he quickly instructed everyone, “Prepare the ropes; we’re going down to rescue them.”
“Chief Ji, look over here.”
When everyone went over to look, they found a piece of rope that was clearly bitten through, tied to a tree.
They quickly fetched a length of sturdy rope.
Luckily, an old hunter who knew the area had brought a long rope.
After securing the rope, the question of who would descend became an issue; it was pitch dark, and no one knew what the conditions were like below.
Ji Yang said, “I’ll go down.”
“Chief Ji, let me go,” an old hunter insisted.
“No worries, I’ll go down.” At this moment, Ji Yang just wanted to bring the people up to safety.
Seeing Ji Yang’s determination, everyone’s view of him changed.
Many cadres were corrupt, but Ji Yang was completely different, truly taking the lead.
After tying the rope around his waist and securing his flashlight firmly, Ji Yang began his descent.
About twenty meters down, he saw a natural platform where four people were stranded.
“Are you all right?” Ji Yang asked loudly.
“It’s Chief Ji, someone finally came to rescue us!” a woman’s voice called out.
Ji Yang recognized the voice; it was Yu Mingying, a female cadre from the Planning Commission, who must have come here with Qian Wan.
“Chief Ji, come and see Commissioner Qian, she’s unconscious,” a man’s voice said, a village cadre from Heini Village.
When Ji Yang reached them, he saw that all four were in bad shape; the village cadre was a bit better off, but only slightly, while another man was clearly injured.
The village cadre who had spoken was also wounded.
“Let’s not talk too much for now, let’s get you up, can you move?” Ji Yang asked.
“I’m alright,” the village cadre said hurriedly.
“Good, tie yourself to the rope and have the people above pull you up.”
After unfastening the rope, Ji Yang secured the village cadre and signaled with his flashlight.
The people above quickly hoisted him up.
Thankfully, there were no mishaps, and the village cadre was pulled up swiftly.
Next was another male villager, who was also in slightly better condition, and he was quickly drawn up after the rope was lowered.
With two saved, Ji Yang was now feeling a headache coming on; both female comrades were in no condition to move, Qian Wan was unconscious, and the other was too weak to even speak.
“I’ll tie you to the rope and have them pull you up.”
“Chief Ji, I’m too weak to move,” the female cadre said feebly.
“Then we’ll have to be tied together!”
Without further ado, Ji Yang knew that if one had some strength, they could adjust themselves during the ascent, otherwise they might hit a rock or get stuck somewhere.
The two were tightly bound together, their bodies against each other.
“It has to be this way,” Ji Yang apologized.
“It’s…
it’s okay,” the woman managed, beyond caring about propriety in that moment.
Ji Yang wrapped his arms around her tightly and then sent the signal with his flashlight.
The rope ascended.
It was then that Ji Yang noticed how fit this woman’s body was, and despite the circumstances, he felt a certain sensation from their close proximity.
The woman noticed too, her face flushed, but she said nothing.
This made Ji Yang somewhat embarrassed.
Fortunately, it didn’t take long before they were pulled up.
“Quickly get these people to the village; Commissioner Qian is still down there, I’ll go back to bring her up,” Ji Yang said quickly to everyone, and had them lower him down again.
Under the flashlight, Ji Yang saw that the woman’s thigh was hastily bandaged, clearly injured, and her body was burning up, likely from a fever.
Sigh.
Ji Yang didn’t know the full extent of the woman’s condition, but he picked her up quickly, firmly tied her and himself together with the rope, and after testing to make sure everything was secure, he sent out the signal.
When Ji Yang and the woman were pulled up, Yan Xingshun had arrived.
“Mr.
Ji Yang, you’ve worked hard!”
Yan Xingshun let out a sigh of relief; if anyone had died on his watch today, he wouldn’t know how to explain it to his superiors.
He Chengjun looked over at Qian Wan and said gravely, “What a mess.”
Ji Yang responded, “Commissioner Qian seems to have suffered serious injuries and has become delirious with fever after getting rained on.
We need to get her to a doctor quickly.
We can discuss other matters once she regains consciousness.”
“Yes, yes, take her for medical treatment,” Yan Xingshun said loudly.
This time they were prepared, placing the injured on stretchers; the villagers quickly carried them off, running towards the village.
“Chief Ji, we owe you one!”
Village head Guo Dashi gripped Ji Yang’s hand tightly, knowing if it weren’t for Ji Yang’s insistence on checking out Eagle Sorrow Valley, those few might have been lost.
Ji Yang responded, “Everyone has been busy all day; you’ve all worked hard, thank you!”
Hearing Ji Yang’s words, the villagers all had a good impression of him, he alone recognized their efforts.
