Chapter 63: Biggest loser

Oberon faced the window, Selena knelt on the floor weeping.

"For the last time I ask you again, what had happened?"

She shook with fear, her hands trembling.

"I actually, wanted to make you happy," she sobbed, "I had no idea it would result to this," she shook her head.

"So, deceit was the best way to make me happy? Why did you not tell me you were barren!" He roared.

She hid her face, suddenly afraid to look him in the eye.

"I am so sorry Oberon, I was confused and I did not know what to do."

Oberon held his head, rage and sadness rippled through his heart, for once he was happy being a father only to find out it had been deceit all along.

He didn’t reply her for the next minutes, when he finally recovered from the shock, he turned around, facing her.

She dropped her gaze for she dared not look at him in the eyes.

"Why?"

She stopped sobbing and looked up at him, his eyes were red and it seemed he was about to cry.

"Huh?"

"Why did you have to lie? You should have told me."

She sniffed, "The elders would not stop disturbing you and I did not have the heart to tell you."

Oberon sniffed, "What am I supposed to tell them?" He whispered.

Six full moons had gone by, leaving him with just twenty four full moons to present a heir to the pack.

"Do you even know the implication of what you have just done?"

She sobbed again, "I am so sorry Oberon, I swear, I did not want to do it, Due had suggested the idea and it seemed good."

Oberon blinked his eyes, "Due suggested this?"

Selena gasped realizing she had just put Due in trouble, ’Oh no.’

Oberon squinted his eyes, "Due?" He asked.

She shook even more, unable to speak.

"Answer me!"

She sniffed, "Yes," she hid her face, her tears pouring down in torre I’llnts.

Oberon held the window to support himself, he felt weak at his legs, "Due actually suggested this?" He said more to himself than to her.

She was short of words, what had she just done?

"I am so sorry," she cried.

He looked at her, he shook his head, "Get up."

She bit her lips, "What?"

"Get up Selena," he tried as much as possible to sound calm.

She stood up, still shaking. Her legs wobbled, she held on to Oberon for support but he gently shoved her off.

"Oberon," she gasped.

"Do not touch me," he said coldly.

She was heartbroken, "I am sorry."

"Come with me," he ordered.

She had no choice, she had to follow him

They got to the main hall. He rang a big bell, "Gather all the servants and send a message to to all of the pack. There is an important message I have to pass."

In the next one hour, every member of the pack had assembled, from the least to the greatest.

Oberon stood above all of them. He made sure Selena was beside them and he had sent for Due.

"There should be order, the king is in the hall!" The clerk shouted.

The hall went silent, Oberon looked everywhere, with his raven like eyes.

"I have very heartbreaking news," he announced.

They murmured feeling bad already.

"There is no need to feel bad, you do not have to be, it is not your fault," he shook his head.

They all listened attentively, waiting to hear what the bad news was.

"You all know, I had once said that my wife Selena was pregnant," he said.

They all nodded, murmuring amongst themselves.

"The things is..." he exhaled.

"Did the baby die?" They asked concerned.

He shook his head, "There was no baby in the first place."

They all gasped loudly, "No baby?"

"My wife here, Selena, is .. barren."

There were shouts of surprise, some gasped, some screamed, some just shook their heads.

"Barren?"

"The Luna is barren?"

"How can the Luna be barren? Is that possible?"

Selena hid her face in shame, her eyes all puffed up.

"Yes, she is barren, her pregnancy was fake in the first place. "

They all shook their heads in pity, "What will become of our Alpha’s throne now?"

He bent his head trying to hide his reddened eyes.

Some of the females there began to curse Selena for deceiving the whole pack. Just that moment, Due was brought into the hall.

"Now, now, let us not just cast blames without knowing the root cause of it," he shook his head.

They all went silent again and listened to him again.

"This plan was all formed by this lady," he pointed at Due, "Selena’s sister."

The whole pack was in an uproar all cursing at Due with rage.

Due dropped her gaze, she couldn’t look at anyone neither Oberon, neither the raging crowd.

"They both agreed to deceive the pack all in the name of making me happy."

They all shook their heads in disapproval.

"So as it seems or as it actually is.. I do not have..." he bent his head and wiped his eyes, "I do not have a heir," his voice broke and he hid his face.

The pack was now enraged, some of them attempted to drag Due and Selena and to burn them but Oberon had to restrain them.

"Leave them alone, there is no need to do anything to them, just leave them alone," he said quietly. With these, he left the room slowly walking out.

Elena was heartbroken, she neither talked to them or tried to console them. She just walked out of the room also.

The pack was disappointed. In disappointed, they all left one by one.

Selena knelt on the ground weeping. Due walked up to her and tried to console her but she shoved her away with force.

"You witch! You have made me lose everything!" She yelled at Due.

Due was shocked, and for the next minutes, she couldn’t reply.

"Leave me alone, you witch!" She stormed out of the palace.

"Selena?"

Selena was heartbroken, she stood up and ram outside the palace.
