Chapter 39: Struggles

Dora returnef home before the sun had risen fully in the sky. She was carrying her bale of wool. She was excited, this was the beginning of something new.

Nyx was waiting for her to arrive. She beamed as soon as she saw her with the bale of a wool.

"Ah, Dora," she smiled and went to help her.

"It’s okay, I can do it myself," she said.

"Just let me help you," she insisted.

Dora shook her head, "No. Why are you up this early, you should be resting."

"I can not just sit and let you do all the work. I have to help you."

"All you have to do right now, is rest."

She said, "You are such a nice person, thank you a lot Dora."

She nodded, "All I have to do now is start working, tomorrow should be a proper day to start selling them," she grinned.

Nyx nodded, "I will definitely help you to sort these out," she began to untie them.

"We need to wash these first, then sort it out. Then we can continue with the rest of the procedures. Tomorrow might not be the day we start selling," Nyx sighed.

"Hmm, why? If we are fast enough, we could do everything today."

"Hehe, do not forget one thing, knitting would take a lot of time. Let us just knit them tomorrow, then we can sell."

Dora twisted her lips, "I think you are right," she nodded.

"That is the last of them for today," Nyx wiped her forehead.

"Phew! We are all set!" She grinned.

Dora sighed, "Finally, we can sell them tomorrow," she smiled softly.

"This is all over from the start, we should not find it that hard to start fending for ourselves," she smiled feeling pleased.

"I will be able to sleep with my two eyes closed. I will not worry endlessly over anything," she wiped her forehead again.

The baby began to make noises. Nyx took him in her arms, "Do not cry my dear, tomorrow is the start of another life for us, we can finally fend for ourselves from now on," she cooed him back to sleep.

"Nyx?"

She raised her head, "Mmh?"

"Who was your husband? Why did he not take care of you and of his son?"

Nyx dropped her gaze, she sighed deeply, she didn’t like remembering how Oberon’s new mate held him tightly, or how they were passionate with each other and why she left the palace.

"There is no need trying to narrate that story, I just feel so hopeless anytime I remember it," her eyes dropped.

"He is definitely a very heartless person, who abandons a mother and her baby?"

Nyx paused, she wasn’t sure Oberon knew about her pregnancy before she left the palace.

"He never knew I was pregnant," she shook her head.

Dora raised her brows, "You never told him?"

"I never got the chance and I just could not tell him."

"Hmm, I guess he must have been a tyrant," she rolled her eyes.

She sighed and lay Archi carefully on the mat.

"Hmm, I do not know what to say, he married me for his own reasons, I was never his mate," she said bitterly.

Dora was boiling with rage inside of her, "What is his name?"

"He is Alpha..."

"Oh goodness, I have not even prepared these sweaters, how will I sell them tomorrow?" Dora hit her head slightly and stood up.

"I am sorry Nyx, but I have to get these properly packaged."

"Oh, that is not a problem. Do you need some help?"

"I will be fine, just rest. You need a lot of it."

"Okay then, if you say so," she lay down to sleep.

"Have a good night’s rest."

"Make sure to rest well when you are done with that, tomorrow is going to be a very busy day," Nyx told her.

"I will be fine, do not worry about me," she smiled and continued her work.

It was early the next day, the sun was yet to rise. Dora was preparing all her goods for sale.

"I am coming with you,"Nyx told her.

Dora disagreed, "Do not be so stubborn now, you just birthed Archi a few days ago. Please, you should be at home."

Nyx shook her head, "No, I am coming with you. You do not have to do all the work alone."

"It is okay, I can do this, there is no need for you trying to stress yourself out for no reason."

"That is also what you are doing, you are also stressing yourself out."

"Come on Nyx, I have got this, you need rest, besides, how is Archi going to cope in the busy market?"

"He will cope, there should be no worry on that. I will take care of him."

"Are you sure about that? He is still a new born, it might affect him," Dora tried her best to persuade Nyx but she still didn’t budge.

"Do not worry, everything will be fine,we are going together."

Nyx took Archi and strapped him to her back, she made sure to strap him carefully lest he fell over.

"Let us go."

They both set out to the market.

"Being early is also important, you could draw a lot of customers before other vendors come around," Dora said.

"Hmm, and also having the right quality too. No customer would want a poor quality article."

"Ha! We are going to be the best vendors then, these wooly sweaters are the best!" Her eyes gleamed with pride as she spoke.

Nyx chuckled, "I just hope so."

The market was still a long way off and they had to reach there by foot. They walked all the way only resting for some minutes.

The sun had just settled in the sky when they arrived at the market.

"We are early enough," Dora gave a sigh of relief.

They settled down at a corner and began to display their goods.

Their first customer walked up to them, "These are nice wooly sweaters you have got here," she complimented.

Nyx grinned, "Thank you ma..." Her eyes locked with the lady’s.

"Mother?"
