Chapter 243: Settled
Chapter 243: Settled
Nyx was with Oberon throughout the day. Unfortunately, his recovery was painfully slow. She would keep dabbing his forehead with a cold towel to reduce his rising temperature. Each time he moved, and he didn’t wake up, it was a huge blow to her.
She sat beside the bed, watching him, "I do not remember it being this slow," she sucked her teeth, "Oh well."
She coughed slightly, rising to her feet, "I should give him a few more hours I think, he should gain consciousness any second," she headed to the bathroom.
She freshened herself up, and came back to bedroom. She looked towards the bed. Oberon had tilted his head to the other side in a very uncomfortable position.
Her heart raced as she rushed towards the bed, "What happened?" She slipped her hand under his head trying to make his head rest a little.
Oberon groaned.
She stopped to look at him, "Huh?"
He grunted again, trying to move his head.
Nyx’s jaws dropped, he had regained consciousness?!
"Oberon?" She called, her heart drumming with anticipation.
"Hmm," a low grunt rumbled from his throat.
He gently moved his head to where she was standing on the other side of the bed, his eyes flickering open. His eyes fell on her, a soft smile spreading across his face.
"Hello," he greeted, his voice muffled.
Nyx just stared back at him, her mouth wide open. He shifted uncomfortably on the bed, "Hm, my head hurts," he hissed.
"Oh," she laughed nervously, allowing his head to rest well on the bed.
"Oberon," she called out again.
He closed his eyes, "Hm?" He cleared his throat, "Wh- what is it?" He stretched his legs.
She wiped her face, "I- it worked!" She placed a hand over her mouth, "Wow," she sniffled, her vision blurred.
He managed to open his eyes again, "Nyx?"
"Yes?" She whipped her head up to look at him, "What is it? Do you want something? Water?"
His eyes were now fully open. He stared at her with amusement in his eyes, "Nyx?"
Her brows knotted together, "What do you want?"
He clutched the side of the bed, trying to help himself get up.
"Hold on! Let me help you!" She rushed to his side, helping him sit up, "You should be careful Oberon, do you not know you are injured? Why are you always so careless with yourself?" She scolded him.
His eyes softened, "Nyx, you are here.." his right hand came up to cup her cheeks, "You came for me?"
Nyx felt bad all of a sudden, "I.."
"I knew it," he chuckled softly, "You do care about me," he let his hand caress her cheeks, "It has been so long.." his grey eyes stared deep into her eyes.
She felt as though she were melting, "I am sorry," she hung her head, "I did not mean to put you in this condition. It is all my fault!" She balled her fists.
Oberon’s gaze shifted from her to his bandaged arms, and legs, "I was beat up real bad," he shook his head.
"Wait," his eyes brightened as if he just remembered something, "Where is my son? Archi, I saw him, I knew I saw him. He is here, right? He should be close, where is he?"
Nyx swallowed hard, "He is in the crimson den," the tears she was trying to force back in, came back rushing like torrents, "The elders sent him there because.. because," her breath hitched, "He tried- to kill you," she palmed her face, her voice was completely choked when she tried saying the last part.
He watched her cry for a while, and his expression turned sour, "Stop crying, Nyx."
She looked up at him, "What?"
"He hates me so much," he bit his lower lip, "I do not blame him for that."
She shook her head, "No, it was my fault," she held his right hand, "It is because of me he hates you so much," she sobbed.
He arched his brow, "I doubt that. I have been a horrible father, and mate. It is only likely for a six-year-old to grow up with such mentality."
"I was horrible," he looked away, "I hope he can forgive me some day," he whispered, resting against the headboard.
Nyx’s lips trembled, "You do not understand," she croaked, "I made a mistake, that is why."
He chuckled, "You did nothing Nyx," he let her squeeze his hand, "If everything had been set straight from the start, it would not have come to this. I am sorry Nyx," he gulped down.
"Oberon, he is in the crimson den. Archi is a Lycan just like you. It must be tormenting him really bad," she wiped her teary face.
"Who sent him there?"
She rolled her eyes, "I just told you, the elders sent him there because he tried to kill you."
"Hm, I did not ask them to start judging cases like this!" His eyes darkened, "Once we are done, send someone to get the elders immediately. I would like to talk to them."
She nodded frantically, "Does that mean he is getting out?"
"What he needs is a talk with me," his eyes returned back to his normal soft gaze, "I have a lot of apologizing, and explaining to do," he clenched his fists.
"That is fine. Thank you so much," she clasped her hands together, "Thank you," her voice broke.
"I am really sorry Nyx."
She took his hand, "I am sorry too," she leaned forward, kissing the back of his hand, "I should not have been too selfish not to have let you make it up with me."
His eyes widened as her lips touched his hand sending shivers all over his spine, "You.." his breath hitched, "So.. does that mean you have forgiven me?" A smile lit his face.
"Yes. I want you to forgive me, too."
His chest was rising, and falling in rhythm with his breathing. His face beamed with joy, "It means, you have forgiven me? I can make it up to you?" His voice was shaky.
"You can," her cheeks flushed.
"Ha!" He spread his arms wide out of excitement, but he immediately dropped it back when the pain struck, "Ow!"
"Be careful now!" She gasped.
"I got too excited sorry," he slightly shook his head, "Come closer," he patted the side beside him.
She pushed down the lump in her throat, sitting beside him.
"Thank you so much Nyx. This means a lot to me," his voice dropped to a whisper.
She cupped his face in her small hands, "You do not have to thank me. This is what we ought to do. Start all over."
He kissed one of her hands, "I agree. We will start all over, I have been wanting this for over three hundred years of my life."
"You are quite old," she made a silly face.
"It is not my fault you are so young," he let his right hand ruffle her hair.
She grinned, leaning forward, and placing a kiss on his lips. He gasped softly, then responded back hungrily. After some time she pulled away.
"You are not supposed to turn on an injured king like that. You have gotten quite bolder, huh?" He gave her a knowing smile.
She shrugged her shoulders, "Of course, I learnt from the true master."
He pouted his lips again, "Kiss me again, I really missed you."
She nodded, locking her lips on his again.
