The Alpha's Blind Fate
Chapter 76: His Claim On Her

Chapter 76: His Claim On Her

ZINA

Zina was momentarily stunned, but she quickly recovered, stepping out of Falcon’s embrace although it took quite some effort on her part.

Falcon smiled sheepishly on realising himself and he released her, muttering an apology that Zina’s ears almost didn’t catch. Almost immediately, his eyes widened as his smile faltered.

"Your eyes...." He murmured in a breathless whisper.

Zina blinked from confusion. She didn’t believe she had shown Falcon any overt sign that could possibly point out that she could see.

"What about them?" She asked impatiently, eager to escape the tent and meet Daemon. Although provided she didn’t exactly know where he would be, but she would definitely figure it out.

"They’re no longer so white." Falcon gulped, swallowing. It was then that Zina actually looked at him. He was easy on the eyes and shared an uncanny resemblance to Daemon... but he was far from being Daemon.

Way too far.

"They are now a blue," Falcon continued nervously, scratching his hair while oblivious to her internal snide comparison. "The whitish kind if that makes any sense. They’re... beautiful, hypnotising even. I mean... your eyes have always been beautiful but now, they are amazing."

Amazing?

"Why thank you." Zina responded brusquely because that was the only way she knew how to respond to such vivid description of her eyes. She figured she might just ask Falcon of Daemon’s whereabouts since Seraph wasn’t exactly forthcoming with the piece of information.

"Where is the banished prince?"

Her inquiry caused Falcon’s light features to darken. "Now you speak about it, we shall see him together. We must make sure he understands that after you deliver the Alpha King’s goodwill, we will be travelling back to the North mate bond or not."

"What...? We. No, I will be seeing the Daemon NorthSteed alone. Just point me to his tent, and I will be well on my way."

Falcon frowned, drawing back as if someone had tugged at him harshly. "You do not mean to accept the bond do you?" He said, causing Zina to frown although the intended meaning of his words didn’t exactly sink in until he continued, his eyes filtering to her left shoulder.

"The Temple can remove the claiming mark if that is what you’re worried about. The banished prince has no right to claim you without your permission. You’re the Theta of the NorthSteed Pack after all and not just any ordinary commoner."

Falcon finished harshly, breathing hard as if simmering from an anger that Zina knew nothing of its origin. She herself was stunned at his heavy reaction. Her mouth agape, she simply stared at him.

"The shift must have caused your sight to be restored..." Falcon voiced out his observation, ignorant—or perhaps acting ignorant—to Zina’s stunned state.

"Are you sane?" Zina finally managed to spit out, losing the reins of her temper.

She tried honestly. She tried. But perhaps seeing Falcon and his nonchalant expression as he all but told her to undergo a pain like no other as if it was nothing caused her to lose her temper.

Falcon’s expression softened, and he took a step forward. "I do not speak these terrible words for my own affection for you. I speak of them because I understand how much your vow of chastity means to your post. It has lended you much revered power and respect as the divine Theta. A mate bond will only defeat everything you have worked hard for six years."

Zina scoffed harshly. "You think I am where I am today because I choose to be a woman who will not have sex?!" She billowed the crude words, reasoning eluding her. Seraph stiffened from where she was still standing, her hands still spread behind Falcon. Those hands fell to her side, and the maidservant started to shift uncomfortably.

Zina was far from done. "And yet you speak of your affections for me? Now tell me which is worse; having affections for a woman who has taken a divine vow of chastity? Or the moon goddess bestowing a second chance at a mate to such a woman?"

Falcon took a step forward, his expression now sombre. His hands reached to touch her but Zina darted out of his reach.

"I did not mean for my words to offend you, Zina..."

"It is Theta Zina to you Alpha Prince Falcon." Zina cut him off harshly in the coldest voice she used solely for people she kept at an arm’s reach. "and I will advise that you cast your eyes away from my personal matters."

Falcon bowed slightly, his posture defeated in a manner that almost tugged at Zina’s heart. He was after all a man she had come to see as a friend no matter what, perhaps she had been too harsh on him.

"Very well Theta Zina. Please forgive my actions."

Zina blinked back the hurt she felt at the formality between them. But between everything that had happened, she was no longer in her right mind. She was driven by grief for herself, anger for everything around her, and sadness for her pathetic life.

Had she truly died, and then resurrected? Had she truly possessed a wolf? Was Daemon NorthSteed truly her mate?

Her fingers darted to touch the spot between her neck and shoulders. Besides the hunt mark that was previously laid there by Daemon was a different pair of bites that was fresher.

Memories of a dark wolf sinking its canine into her flashed through her eyes, and almost immediately, she felt the feral thing within her prowling like a caged animal tethering on the brinks of desire and madness.

The wolf... no, her wolf was caged alright for Zina had somehow reclaimed control from it. She was determined to hold onto such control for a very long time. So with stealth determination, she raised her shoulders high, her chin upturned.

"Might I demand for the whereabouts of the banished prince, Alpha Prince Falcon?" She demanded in an even tone.

"The Alpha Prince’s tent is two tents by your right." He answered in a low voice, "do you need accompaniment to see him?" He inquired.

"No I don’t. That will be all."

And with her obvious dismissal, Falcon left the tent.

Seraph gasped, as if struggling for air. "I almost had a heart attack and died." She said dramatically, acting faint.

Zina knew that the maidservant had always been a mischievous one, but seeing the mischief for herself was an entirely different thing.

Zina rested her furtive gaze on the girl who stood straighter on noticing that she was now the new centre of attention. "Will you still block my path?" She asked her.

Seraph bowed her head, attempting a dramatic sigh. "I am still concerned about your desires...." She trailed.

Zina frowned.

"But..." the girl continued quickly, "I am convinced that not even the heavens and earth will stop this dreaded meeting from happening, so I concede." She finished with a dramatic bow.

Zina remembered herself as she attempted to take a step out of the tent. She turned back to Seraph. "Do I look presentable? For how long have I been unconscious?"

"For your second question, just a day. As for your first..." Seraph shook her head, her gaze resting squarely on Zina’s head. "If you were to stand before the banished prince you will look no better than a bird out of her nest."

Zina glared at the girl who laughed while pushing her towards a chair in the tent. And then Seraph began to tend to her by first helping her to change into a better cloth, and then twisting Zina’s silver white hair into a ceremonial style that always lended her the most regal look in the world.

After that, Seraph escorted Zina to the front of Daemon NorthSteed’s giant, very obvious tent that was smack dab in the middle of the camp. Two omegas were guarding it, and their eyes widened slightly from surprise on seeing Zina.

Shoulders squared, chin tipped up slightly, Zina spoke to them.

"Announce my presence."
