The Alpha's Blind Fate
Chapter 51: You Fool!

Chapter 51: You Fool!

MOON

Moorim, Beta to the NorthSteed Pack and the Arctic North united under it stepped into the Alpha King’s chambers, his ire itching for more than one reason.

He had only been away for a few weeks to investigate supposed sightings of a creature that looked something between a werewolf and a monstrous beast at the the Mountains where the Matriarchy Pack dwelled in—only for him to return and hear of the chaos that Eldric had set off in his less than thirty days of absence.

Yet again, a pool of blood greeted him the moment he stepped into Eldric’s room that particularly moonless night that was supposed to be the last night the Theta would spend at the Arctic North. Maimed men and women, castrated werewolves in their wolf form, and many more of Eldric’s carefully designed, depraved creativity greeted his sight.

Eldric himself was lying on his bed; Lykom Lupus panting on top of him.

Moorim simply stared at them unabashedly, and when Eldric finally took notice of him, he bowed saying his greetings. "I Moorim, greet the Alpha King."

Eldric stood from the bed naked, still panting from the thrill of the pleasure he chased. Blood was plastered on half of his body, although none of it was his if the four bodies strewn over the room was anything to go by.

"I see that my Beta finally decides to grace me with his gracious presence."

Ignoring his words, Moorim turned to Lykom Lupus, leveling the man with an even stare. "Leave us." He said to him, and Lupus’ response was a taunting smile and a staring contest that lasted for all but five seconds.

Finally, Lupus stood from the bed, his thing dangling between his legs as he walked away. He stepped on the bodies and the blood brusquely without care that he dirtied the room further. On getting to where Moorim stood he carelessly said,

"Welcome back, Beta."

And then with a maniacal laughter that lingered in the room, he made his final exit.

"You must not send the Theta away."

Eldric scoffed, walking to his alcohol cabinet still naked.

"And why must I not do that?" He said, pouring himself some yellow drink in a transparent bottle.

Without hesitating, Moorim answered. "The Theta is one of the tangible evidence of your legitimate ascension to becoming Alpha King. Sending such evidence away from the Arctic North, to the banished prince nonetheless is mad..."

Before he could complete his words, Eldric slammed his glass against the table, his eyes simmering from rage. He chuckled, leveling Moorim with a wounding stare.

The man that stood before him had barely aged over the years. His posture of eternal subservience was still firm, his eyes still had that element of knowledge that particularly ticked Eldric off.

"Are you saying that I am nothing without that blind woman?!"

Moorim didn’t answer.

Eldric staggered from the cabinet, approaching Moorim while the other man did his best not to allow his eyes wander below his face.

"Because of you, I’ve indulged her and her antics for so long! Because you think that my reign is nothing without her! Because she told just ONE LIE!"

At the end of his rant, his wolf was growling like a beast circling a hunt that had been chased for way too long.

"The posters say she is the reincarnation of the moon goddess. Which means that I should be the Great Beast Wolf, but what? No, they say it is the banished prince." Eldric finished, laughing like a mad man.

The way the younger man pranced about, the way he staggered while talking, and the way he twirled the liquid in his glass reminded Moorim of the last days of the late Alpha King. A horrid sense of deja-vu settled against his shoulders, slightly disconcerting him.

"It is for that reason that you must not send her away," Moorim pressed the voice of reason, "as long as she remains here with you, no one will audaciously question your reign. No matter the rumors, you will always remain the Alpha King backed by the divine seer."

"Don’t you see it!" Eldric roared in a voice that slightly startled Moorim. His anger was giving way to something that resembled anguish. "Don’t you see it, that she gloats with that knowledge! Knowing that I can’t carelessly kill her, she has become like an insufferable thorn by my side!"

Shaking his head like he found the whole situation amusing, he gritted. "The more this thorn remains by my side, the more it digs into my flesh causing me dire harm. I do not wish to have her here, I wish to rule alone."

The word ’alone’ lingered between them like traditional lullabies sang to pups to lure them into a deep slumber.

"Your majesty, are you telling me you know that many wish to take the Theta’s life?" Moorim asked with a voice tinged with dread.

Eldric simply stared at him like he was dumb. "Of course I do."

Moorim scoffed lightly in disbelief. "Does this mean you also know that the man who lies in the same bed with you intends to take her life too?"

Eldric smirked, "Lykom’s actions are justified. I too, find that smug smile the Theta usually wears to be most unsightly. Covering her eyes when she feels like it, and exposing them when she speaks to me... does the foolish woman intend to scare her Alpha and her King?"

Scoffing, Eldric continued, ignorant of the fact that Moorim’s entire body was trembling so badly he could be mistaken to have muscle tremor. "She is without a wolf so I can’t even command her. She doesn’t bear the pack link so I am not assured of her loyalty. She deserves to die alongside the man she betrayed. At least she would be at her home when it happens."

"You fool!" Moorim screamed, unable to contain it anymore, "you fool! Don’t you understand yet that the only reason why Kingdom has been able to stand solely in the North is because we understand more than anyone else that might and superstition rules side by side!"

Unknowingly, Eldric had taken a startled step back, stunned by his rage.

Sarcastically, Moorim continued, his eyes shining with profound anger. "Royalty? Alpha King? Luna Queen? A pack ruling over other packs? Do you think this was possible only by our might?! No. Your forefathers told a prophecy that the Arctic Wolf would rule the north! It is how Kingdom started here! Even your late father could not dispose of Daemon without a Theta!"

Moorim took a step forward to the man that was darting a panicked eye all over the room in shock. "Theta Zina WolfKnight has no power. She does not rule the Arctic North. It is you who rules! But when she tells a prophecy that a great famine will sweep over Vraga, guess who shares the glory of such a mighty prophecy? It is YOU! Her sole job is to reaffirm the people’s belief in your reign! And now... you purport to take her life?!"

Moorim scoffed at the end, breathing hard. He never imagined that the damage done was this bad.

Recovering himself, Eldric screamed back in equal measure. "I am your Alpha and King! And I’ve made my decision!"

"Well I am your father!" Moorim equally billowed, and Eldric staggered back even more, hugging his body as a cold took over him.

"Rescind your order, your majesty." Moorim commanded in a low voice.

Eldric went for his cloak, shrugging the cloth on. "It is impossible to do so. An orika has been issued."

Moorim stilled. "What? You issued an orika?"

"Yes." Eldric answered in a meek voice. "As you know, an orika is a death order. The parties involved will not stop unless the Theta and the banished prince are dead."

"Then kill the people the orika was issued to." Moorim said gruffly. "Kill them and this mess will be over."

"That is even more impossible," Eldric responded grimly. "I hate to inform you, but this matter is far graver and bigger than you think."

"What do you mean?"

"They’re dangerous parties who want the Theta dead. They met together with me, and I issued the orika to them in exchange that they kill the banished prince too. Just know that the parties in question are relentless and very much determined to see the end of Zina WolfKnight."

Still rooted in place in disbelief, Moorim asked. "Who are these parties? And why do they want the Theta dead?"

Uncomfortably, Eldric answered. "As for your first question, the main parties are unknown. But they’re led by a man from the Temple. As for why they want the Theta dead, something about some ancient prophecy I couldn’t bother to understand."

Moorim staggered, almost falling to the ground. "Are you telling me that the Temple is involved?"

"Indeed. The Temple Knights escorting the Theta are the main assassins," Eldric scoffed, "the Theta probably enlisted their help, thinking they would keep her life. But in fact, they want her dead more than I do."

Seeing that Moorim was too stunned to utter any more words Eldric approached the man, clutching his shoulders.

"It is too late to do anything. It would be better for us if the Theta dies in a foreign land, that way, no one can fault us for her death. This is her fate."

Still deep in shock, all Moorim could think of was for what reason would the Temple that revered the Theta want her dead? And who could be the man ordering it? Also, who were this parties that Eldric had not even bothered to inquire about?

Moorim was afraid that Eldric had foolishly and unknowingly dipped himself into a matter that was sure to bring ruin and destruction later on.

Just in a few hours, the Theta will begin a journey that will seal her fate; indeed, it was too late to do anything.
