The Alpha's Blind Fate
Chapter 42: Let Them Have Their Way

Chapter 42: Let Them Have Their Way

MOON

"Do you mean to say her blindness was induced after her birth?" Yaren retorted, staring at Daemon. Then it came to him that up until that moment, they still weren’t able to find anything on Zina WolfKnight’s real parents. Everything they knew about the woman started from the day she was abandoned in a forest.

Could she have been born with a sight and then it was taken away from her? Who could have done such a crude thing to a child?

"I’ve something to say just for your ears. Might I ask that he leaves?" Norima said to Daemon, referring to Yaren.

Daemon smiled cynically. "Yaren are my ears."

Norima set her chin up stubbornly. "I shall not say anything if he remains here."

Before Daemon could tell the woman that he could hardly care for anything she wished to say, Yaren interrupted. "I shall take my leave, brother."

The duo shared a glance, and Daemon gleaned that Yaren was disturbed by the information on the Theta’s sight and intended to send word back to the Houses that served as their spy. Granting Yaren his leave, Daemon faced the young woman squarely. "What do you’ve to say? I’ve not all the time in the world."

Norima took a slightly trembling step forward. Her fingers darted to remove her cloak which pooled to her feet, revealing the sheer silk dress she wore underneath. Her voice took a different lithe supposed to to be alluring and seductive as she spoke.

"I am surprised Zina WolfKnight still lives after the heinous lies she levelled against you. It must be hard watching her saunter about as the Great Seer when you have to live such a hard life."

Daemon merely stared at her with a bland expression as her fingers came up to tug at the ribbon holding the delicate neckline of her dress in place. The ribbons unfurled, and the top of her dress gave way, revealing her bare breasts.

She took another step forward, her fingers going to the buttons that held the lower part of her gown in place. "I know you’ve no interest in otherworldly powers, but the Night Mages shall pave a smoother path for you. Ask for the Theta’s head and we shall deliver it to you."

The entirety of her dress pooled at her feet as the button came undone, her naked body glowing under the candlelight.

"A smoother path you say?" Daemon repeated, his eyes appraising the woman’s white body mechanically.

She took a final step forward, reaching out to touch Daemon, but before she could make contact, Daemon’s hands darted out, twisting her hand until it was caged crudely behind her.

Norima gasped just as Daemon’s free hands clutched her free shoulder painfully, forcing to kneel on the floor. She spluttered from the fierce pain, although Daemon’s relaxed expression didn’t show any strain on his part.

Daemon leaned down, putting more pressure on her shoulders until a joint popped loudly, indicating a dislocation. Norima cried out in pain, her wolf nor her powers unable to do anything under Daemon’s natural cage of her naked body.

In a deadly voice, Daemon spelt out. "I shall advise you to run back to the mages and let them know they’ve all thought wrong about me. I am hardly merciful, and the next time they will send someone here, whether to seduce or spew nonsense...I shall return their mangled body back to them."

Norima was breathing fast, her red eyes glaring at him. "Let.me.go!" She managed to grit out.

"I am not done yet." Daemon said, adding pressure at the now dislocated shoulders until tears spilled from her eyes. His wolf’s golden eyes gleamed against her fierce red ones. "Zina WolfKnight is mine to kill, to maim and to destroy. When I am done with her, nothing will be left of her body so do not suppose to give me advice on how to take revenge."

Norima winced at the burning pain, her tears spilling unbidding. "Please..."

"Now run back to your people and tell them if they want to offer me any support, they can do more than offer me some weak woman. And while you’re at it, make sure they understand that anyone who touches a strand of Zina WolfKnight’s hair shall die under my wolf."

Daemon released her roughly, while Norima scrambled for her clothes. Putting them on hurriedly, she glared at Daemon with hate-filled eyes as she turned to take her leave.

Almost immediately, Yaren entered the tent as if he had been waiting outside.

"Have you sent the message?" Daemon asked impassively as he stared at the flap of the tent where the woman left from.

"I’ve informed the houses to dig deeper into Zina WolfKnight’s origins."

"She seems to be more interesting than I gave her credit for. Even the famed Night Mages are after her." Daemon said, not looking impressed in the bit.

Hesitantly, Yaren asked. "Do you think they refer to the Deformed. People seem to think so ancient prophecy mandates that it is you that will fight against these seemingly monsters."

Daemon chanced a glance at his young brother, a shrewd smile hanging on his lips. "We should survive this war before we start talking about monsters. I need a clean victory before Theta Zina WolfKnight graces the GreenLands."

"I do not believe her journey will be smooth in any way. If this ancient prophecy holds any water, then many people should be after her life. Murdering just Lykom Lupus will not cut it."

Hesitating, Yaren added with an air of exasperation. "Unconfirmed information saw a spy of the White Monks lingering at the Temple of the Arctic North. House Zedd has a reason to believe that they’re spying on Zina WolfKnight."

If the Temple believed in the supremacy of the Moon Goddess, the White Monks could be said to believe in the supremacy of the Great Beast Wolf. An unclear organisation driven only by men, the White Monks could be best described as sexists who couldn’t swallow the pill that a woman posed as the moon goddess was the founder of the entirety of Vraga.

"The White Monks have joined the fray?" Daemon spat in exaggerated disbelief. "Just how many people have an interest in her. I almost forgot to ask, why in particular is Lykom Lupus after her?"

"The girl met with the matriarchy pack and Lupus caught wind of it. He probably thinks that she somehow influenced the support you got from the high ranked packs in the East."

Daemon scoffed. Only if the foolish man knew how he got the support in the first place. But then he wondered why the Theta met with the Matriarchy, and what was the crux of their meeting.

A sardonic smile played on Daemon’s lips. "Perhaps I should let them have their way. No matter how hard I try to see it, this game keeps getting more interesting. Inform the houses that they are ordered to stand down on assassinating Lupus. We shall leave for the GreenLands now." He said abruptly, going to pick up the leather bound book plopped on the makeshift table in the tent.

Slightly startled, Yaren inquired. "Why the change of heart? Do you no longer wish to claim her life personally?"

"Of course I still do, but on second thought, if she was able to survive Eldric for six years, I am sure in her two weeks journey to the East, she will be able to avoid two or more werewolves that are after her life. She is the Great Seer after all, how can she not see her own death? In view of that, it would be gross for me to interfere brother."

Packing his effects, Yaren stared at him before he walked languidly to the makeshift table, inscribing the message with their hidden code.

"Make sure Malik Zorch understands that if she does otherwise, she will not find my mercy no matter how high she searches for it." Daemon growled darkly, remembering the assassin spy from house Zorch that had a bad blood vengeful streak. Once put on a mission, it was hard to stop the woman.

Yaren walked to the caged raven, strapping the coded letter to its legs and releasing the bird. Grinning at Daemon he said. "Fine, it’s about time we ended this war already. To the GreenLands it is."
