Chapter 383: You’re Already Dead In His Eyes

ZINA

Tossed into the barely lit room again, the dangerous plan that had take root in Zina’s mind kept on evolving as Zina cracked her head for how to outwit her captor’s even in the tiny bit.

Daemon appeared before her, and his cunniness whenever he was before his Wolf Chess Table was the only thing she concentrated on.

What would he do if he was the one in her situation?

He would certainly plan and plot his way out of it, but how? She admitted she was not nearly smart as him but she stepped into his shoes, remembering every distant word he spoke to her whenever he stood before his game table.

Back then when Zina had been captured by the rogues and he had rescued her, he would always call out on her flimsy lies. But the only reason why Daemon was able to catch on them was because he was of the ardent believe that the best lies were always the ones that was soaked in half-truths.

If Zina were to play her captor’s, then first, she must allow them to play her too. And that was how she arrived at her descision to succumb to their torture. Better ti do it willingly than to wait for the time when she would eventually break.

Already, even though it was a hard pill to swallow, she could already see it that her resolve would not last long. At a point, given how emotionally overwhelming the torture was, she would have to give in.

It didn’t matter to those people how many child she will loose in the process, or how many husbands she would stab in her illusionary life... all that mattered to them was that they would break her.

But before Zina woukd succumb, she needed ti at least understand why they believed her such a weapon. She hardly believed she possessed the ability to create a deformed even if she had seen a surprising army of them in her vision of Daemon’s death.

The servants strapped her to the silver chains anew, the element burning both their fingers and Zina’s wrist. This time they left her cloth on and Zina crudely wondered if this was another form of their torture by allowing her some of her dignity.

Rose entered the room, accompanied by Rowan but Orchid wasn’t in sight. Studying the dynamic between the two women, Zina came ti the understanding that Rose was some sort of Master to Orchid. Rose was probably tasked with impacting her knowledge of torture on Orchid who was far younger than her.

Rowan approached her, his fingers curling a lock of Zina’s white hair. "Of all the beautiful things that your mother passed down to you, I just say your hair color takes the top."

Zina glared at him, but otherwise remained silent.

"I heard you lost your child in an unfortunate accident. Rest assured, I had them punished for being such pain to you." He drawled in a mocking voice, his fingers caressing her cheeks.

A sob stuck in Zina’s throat as she found it hard to breath. Tears willing in her eyes, she was beginning to see his cruelty for what it is.

"It’s been barely twenty four hours since we took you, but your husband dearest has set off a huge storm that would have ordinarily taken a year within this time,"

Zina, even though curious, remained silent.

"Aren’t you curious to know what he has done? The packs he had visited? The threats he has made? The declaration of war he has sent out?"

Again, Zina remained silent.

"Fine. I guess you’re still sulking over the unfortunate loss of your child so I will not take your silence to heart." He said, pacing about Zina and circling her.

"The Alpha King of the North has sent a declaration of war allover Vraga. The three regions are mobilizing their armies and Epsilons against the West."

Zina processed that information. It had always been inevitable that there would be war; even before she was kidnapped, that had always been the plan.

So the fact that Daemon was making a noisy display of it told Zina that he was hiding his true intention. Knowing his intelligence, Zina knew the war at that point was just a means to cover up his true heart.

"But guess what’s the most fun part of his declaration?" Rowan drawled, evil glinting in his eyes.

On Zina’s further silence, he gripped her by the neck, strangling her till she was out of breath. "Your continued silence is annoying. Even if you’re disgruntled by your loss, surely you should be over it now!" He gritted, pushing her head away harshly till it snapped to the side.

Zina, ignoring the pain in her neck turned squarely, then spat at him in the eyes.

Anger flared in his eyes as he used his handkerchief to clean off the mess. The he whipped out his chain, about to mete out another torture on her. But before the chain could meet her, Zina spoke;

"Just a mere spittle in your eyes. Surely, you should be over it by now?" She spat, returning his words with more venom and hate.

Rowan, true to the deranged man he was, smiled while lowering his chains. "That’s the attitude I am looking for." He drawled, stroking Zina on the hair.

Zina shook her head violently to wade off his hands, the act causing the sprain on her neck to snap in place.

"Let’s hear it then," she gritted, "the most fun part of Daemon’s declaration."

But he didn’t answer right away, instead began to circle her again. "I heard you told Rose that loosing your child is not enough to break you down. You even said that maybe when I’ve managed to kill Daemon NorthSteed, then maybe then you will break."

Zina smiled, "What about it?"

"It’s just too bad that you’re already dead in your husband’s eyes." Rowan answered maliciously, "the war that will be fought by him is done so under the pretext that he is avenging the death of the Great Seer."
