Chapter 373: The Love Of Her Life
FIONNA
Fionna didn’t dare to call her mission with Marcus DireWolf a blessing in disguise especially since the subject matter that had led to it was Zina’s kidnap...
...but it was a blessing in disguise. The most beautiful kind in fact.
With the passing of the tournament, the royal wedding and then Zina’s kidnapping, Fionna had almost forgotten the betrayal she discovered while going through the Test of Mirrors and the promise of revenge which she had thus made.
Almost.
But being in the GreenLands brought to the fore a sort of dejavu. It was almost like fourteen year old Fionna the Red Sister, and Marcus role playing as Kaliga The Merchant were born again.
It was hard to forget. The closer she looked at the man, the more she found resemblances to the merchant that had told her ’it’s either you’re strong or you’re gone’.
She had been longing for a brown eyes all along, forgetting that for some werewolves, the more they advanced, the more their eyes colors changed or darkned as was Marcus’ case.
Ten years ago, the man did have brown eyes. But becoming a Lycan Shifter had darkened his eyes to an almost black. You had to look very, very, close to see that it was in fact a deep, dark brown.
Then there was his voice. The timbre had deepened, but the way Kaliga the Merchant and Marcus DireWolf spoke were almost the same. Yes, he had been imitating a Northern accent at the time, but it was about the same.
Just how had it escaped Fionna that this man had been the same person. Ruthlessly taking away her prized onyx necklace like it was filth while she clamoured and held onto it quite foolishly.
Only if she had known that the man was quite literally taking back what was his, then she wouldn’t have had to embarrass herself so much.
Because she was also depraved like that, she could imagine how powerful it made him. Knowing that she clung to something of his for ten years without knowing it came from him. She imagined that he was filled with glee at the fact, revelling in being in the upper arrow of the food chain while she was left with crumbs.
She will serve her revenge... and she would serve it quite the slowly.
The most important thing at the moment was to rescue Zina, but no one said that Fionna couldn’t have fun while at it. And her fun would be in the form of Marcus DireWolf.
So they visited the WolfKnights first, delivering the severed fingers of Igar WolfKnight still under the glorious custody of Daemon. That was a mission that Fionna enjoyed very well on her and Zina’s behalf. And seeing the fearful face of her former pack members was a thing of great joy.
Accompanying the box of severed fingers was a sealed letter from Daemon to Modrich WolfKnight, blood Alpha of the Pack and a man that Fionna hated the most just after Igar.
They didn’t stay for the drinks they offered of course. Without wasting time, they visited the Matriarchy Pack and delivered a sealed box from Daemon to them—accompanying it too was a sealed letter and the Alpha of the pack accepted them with a grim expression on her face
Fionna didn’t know what the contents of those letters said, but she could imagine they spelt the promises of bloodshed, vengeance, and war amongst tiny details that she was unaware of.
Finally, they began to make their way to the Red Sisters Territory and it was only then did Fionna relax a little in the carriage that was taking them. She abhorred being back there, but honestly, there was nothing she could do and it was about time she conquered her fears.
And she didn’t know what, but something about the words Zina said to her after she won the combat held her captive like a healing, soothing balm.
Born to loose, reborn to win.
She should no longer be trapped in her past, no matter how devastating it was. And perhaps to take off the edge of her unease, she found herself engaging Marcus who had been grim and silent throughout their journey.
"Where is my Onyx necklace?" She asked, twiddling with the string of the black leather she was wearing.
Marcus frowned as expected, looking at her like she was crazy for asking such a question at such a dammed time. And maybe she was crazy in fact.
"It’s definitely not here with me, Delta Fionna. Can we both concentrate on our duties."
Aww... so he was the kind that was so serious in carrying out his duty without leaving room for fun. Wasn’t that interesting?
Fionna sighed, looking out of the window. There’s was a popular male taming technique amongst the red sisters—The Pretend Act.
Pretend you’re weak and forlorn and then break them.
Pretend you can’t do without them, then break them.
Pretend your world is on the brink of despair and only they could save you, and then proceed to break them.
Either ways, you must break them.
"The love of my life gave me that stone you know," she said in a despairing voice. She might live the life of a hard woman most times, but she was trained as a courtesan and the game of allure and seduction was a weapon she possessed.
Maybe she didn’t like utilising that weapon all the time, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t use it when the time called for it.
"Has that got anything to do with me?" Marcus snapped... and that was about any emotion he mustered on hearing that Fionna thought of him as the love of her life.
Wasn’t that disappointing?
Fionna pouted, "I do not mean to show any sort of weakness, but you wouldn’t understand what it means to be drift along without a family. Zina can be considered my family, and now that she is gone, I need that necklace more than ever."
Marcus scoffed, snapping shut the scroll he was perusing. "I’ve burnt that stone." He said crudely.
"My my, ain’t you a little liar. Onyx can’t be burned... at least not one of that kind."
Amusement filtered through his eyes while Fionna perked up at the game she was playing with him. "Why don’t you get the man himself? Holding onto some stone is unlike the powerful and domineering image that you’ve shown thus far. I am almost disappointed."
Fionna tsked, "What would a hard man like you know about love or family? In this world where women suffer the most, what would you know about such affection."
That finally did it and pushed his buttons. "You don’t even know who this man is!" He snapped.
