The Alpha's Blind Fate -
Chapter 315: Wedding Bells
Chapter 315: Wedding Bells
ZINA
Zina managed to collect herself together despite the fact that Daemon insisted she might go back to the castle if she wanted to. An offer that only sounded scarier for she wanted to remain at Daemon’s side.
Besides, she wanted to witness the rest of the combat for herself. Especially given that it was day that would change the course of history as they all knew of it.
She followed Daemon back with her head raised high. The people at the Dais discreetly stared at them, and she noticed the Thetas whispering furtively about them. She could imagine that the center of their conversation was about the debutante things she and Daemon must have done.
The council men also whispered amongst themselves too, each of them appraising Zina like they could not believe that the most powerful man in the Arctic North had chosen a woman like her for a companion.
Zina realized belatedly that she hadn’t even questioned what she heard earlier from Daemon. She had been breaking down so horribly that she hadn’t bothered to question it.
"Did you just say we are having our wedding tomorrow." Zina whispered to him while they took their seats at the center of the Dias. From the look of things, they were still at the fifth combat and they hadn’t reached Fionna’s turn yet.
Daemon’s response was clinking his glass with a spoon to get the attention of all that sat with them at the Dias. "I almost forgot to make an important announcement," he announced, yet again uncaring for the combatants on the arena.
Every eyes whirled to where they were seated as they all anticipated whatever news Daemon deemed fit ti break at the middle of an important event.
"Tomorrow is my wedding with the Theta. You’re all invited, but of course, it’s not a must. I would rather much do this far from prying eyes but I fear that my council men will tear my ears off should I go down that path."
Zina stood, rooted in shock of his words. But Daemon proceeded to pour more wine for himself as if he hadn’t just thrown a bombshell at them.
The people at the Dias with them glanced furtively at each other, before the whole place then descended into hushed whispers and furious gossip.
"I suspect that you’ve a thing for theatrics," Zina whispered furiously the moment she turned to Daemon.
"Theatrics? I wouldn’t call it that. Why is everyone acting surprised though? The only thing that has been holding our wedding back is this damn selection and I am only here to see it to an end." Daemon answered carelessly like he was truly annoyed that their nonexistent wedding had been stalled for so long.
"A wedding needs time to be prepared, especially the wedding of an Alpha King," Zina protested, trying to be the annoying voice of reason that came with her position as Theta, "besides, I need time to handoff my duties as Theta." She finshed, her latter words sounding more pained than she had anticipated it to be.
She was going to miss being Theta, that was for sure. But more than that, she was going to miss not staying by Daemon’s side as his wife.
"Also, the combat might not leave behind five final winners. How will you decide the remaining five winners of that is the case, and how will you decide the rankings?"
"You’re worried for nothing. I will take care of the final rankings in my own way. Besides, thus far we only have one winner. You should be more worried about whether we are going to arrive at five winners in the first place."
Zina actually looked at the rankings, and true to Daemon’s words only the Sighter had won so far. Every only contestant thereafter had arrived at a tie.
That was when she realized why that stage of the tournament was the most dangerous, since they were almost evenly matched in strength at to at point, there was no way to arrive at a winner.
Daemon had set up the stage intentionally knowing just that. And asides from the contestants who looked nervous as hell, the council men realizing the trap they had fallen in were noticeably uncomfortable.
Fionna would be fighting next, and she hoped as hell that she would make it. The woman deserved to make it.
"I can see you’re very attached to your position as Theta?" Daemon mulled distantly, startling her from her thoughts.
Zina, who hadn’t drunk a single wine up until that moment found herself reaching for her charged glass. She gulped the whole thing down before she turned for Daemon, smiling at him.
"More than being Theta, I do want to be your wife."
"You can always hold the two positions," Daemon declared, startling her.
Zina chuckled. "You must kid me? Your council men will not allow that. Besides, you knows it’s against the law."
Daemon’s eyes glittered with mischief. "Who said you will be breaking any laws? You will become my Luna of course, however there’s no assurance that they will be a next Theta since I plan to set the standards to be so towering high and unreachable."
Zina choked on her drink as she giggled at the seriousness in his voice even as he said something so unserious.
"You scare me Alpha Daemon," she whisper shouted while the crowd seemed to be hollering at whatever was happening on the stage.
Daemon leaned down to her, "How so, Zina?"
"You appear so serious and yet, who would have thought that you’re just a bag of mischief waiting to explode." Zina continued, wiping away with an handkerchief the wine that spilled all over her face.
"Is that so? I guess for you I can be anything?" He wiggled his eyebrows playfully at her while the crowd booed behind them.
Between the feeling of fullness she had at the moment, and the fact that the combat had come to yet another tie, Zina knew they were in for far more interesting times.
