The Alpha's Blind Fate
Chapter 31: How Many Lives Do You Have?

Chapter 31: How Many Lives Do You Have?

In a dark voice, Zina said, "I see you accuse me of conspiring with the banished prince."

"I would never do such a thing!" Lykom gasped dramatically, the dark sarcasm not exactly lost on her.

"Of course you would never do such a thing. After all, I am the very reason why the banished prince is titled so."

A silence stretched between them. Finally, Eldric broke the spell by clutching Zina’s shoulders.

"Theta, your rise is my rise, and your fall is my fall, you know that don’t you?"

Zina stiffened, the threat well understood.

"Of course, your majesty."

"The banished prince seems to have forgotten his Alpha King. I intend to send you to the GreenLands to remind him of who he serves."

Before Zina could process the meaning of his words, Lykom interjected.

"That would be just fine. Theta Zina has won the admiration of all who now chant her as the reincarnation of the moon goddess herself. The banished prince won’t act arbitrarily if she is to be the one to put him in his place."

Zina simmered in barely contained rage just as she felt Eldric stiffen. The jab that Zina was somehow greater than him was not lost on him, and his displeasure over her that had grown over the years, swelled even more.

His hands on her shoulders clutched her even tighter to the point of pain. But Zina would rather die than show an ounce of weakness before Eldric.

"Six years ago you pulled him down. I am sure putting him in his place in my name

won’t be too much to ask should it?"

"I serve only the Alpha King." Zina gritted, spewing words of her loyalty which she knew Eldric wanted to hear.

"Of course you serve only me. Now I shall convey my true desires to you, I wish to have the head of Daemon NorthSteed."

His declaration stunned Zina who still felt the never ending pain of his fingers clutching her shoulders painfully.

He wanted Daemon dead? Why was the revelation a surprise to her? Of course, ever since the war pushed off from the Arctic North, Eldric no longer had a need for Daemon. For Daemon’s fame was no longer Eldric’s or the honour of the NorthSteed Pack and the Arctic North...Daemon’s fame was now his honour and his alone.

Zina smiled, "I told you six years ago did I not? The entirety of the banished prince’s achievements will only serve as a pinnacle for your rise throughout the regions."

Lykom scoffed, "In that case I must call you a fraud. The banished prince’s achievements on the GreenLands are chanted as his own. No one seems to remember he is a banished prince anymore for they even chant him the reincarnation of the Great Beast Wolf."

Zina stiffened.

"Surely, you must have heard that he has now evolved to becoming a level two shifter? Now, he stands a step away from becoming a supreme wolf. And who knows, maybe when the day comes, he will want to show his supremacy by subduing his rightful brother who is occupying his rightful throne."

Every jab was successfully delivered, for the rage that emanated from Eldric in droves didn’t pass Zina by.

First, Lykom had all but discreetly reminded Eldric that his throne was a stolen one. And even though he possessed a supreme wolf, that too was stolen. Eldric would be nothing compared to Daemon if he actually acquired a Supreme Wolf on his own.

That much would make Daemon an Original Supreme, and Eldric would forever remain an Inheritor. Just the fact that Daemon had been able to reach the level two of a Lycan Wolf two years ago had been a startling revelation. Although it made sense as Daemon had been embroiled in a war where he took the life of thousands. His werewolf evolving in the face of such bloodbath was to be expected, although the heights of such evolution depended entirely on the Werewolf himself.

Going from a level five shifter of an Ordinary Wolf to a level two shifter of a Lycan Wolf was impressive.

Impassively, Zina said, "If you want to claim his life, you can do it without me. I am still needed here...."

"I do not need you here!" Eldric screamed. Zina fisted her silk dress in her hands, an anger like no other reverberating through her. For how was she to explain to a very foolish man like Eldric that the moment she stepped out of the Arctic North to make such a long journey, Lykom Lupus would swoop in to claim her life.

The man had a vengeful streak, and just the mere fact that Zina was in communications with the Matriarchy was enough for him to resolutely want her dead.

Voice dripping with sarcasm, Eldric continued, "You’re the only one who can approach him. You’re after all the reincarnation of the moon goddess chanted by all. Daemon cannot touch you if he still wants the support of the GreenLands to quell the rogues."

Zina bunched her clothes tighter. She was the reincarnation of the moon goddess? Far from it. Even then, six years later, she was just a woman who was played to the whims and caprices of men incharge. She was hardly anything.

"And how am I to kill him by myself?"

Eldric roughly released her shoulders. "You need not to think about that, my incorruptible Theta. The man who shall do the job shall be among your transportation retinue."

"I need some time to think ab...."

"You shall depart in two weeks," Eldric said with a finality that rang clear, "wrap any business you’ve left before you leave."

Seeing no need to continue the argument, Zina said, "Fine. I shall leave as you’ve commanded. But before that I wish to inquire on how the investigations on the alleged monster sightings have...."

Before Zina could finish her statement, Eldric shoved her against the wall of the room harshly without care that her shoulders dislodged in the act. For the first time that day, Zina winced in pain as that part of her body burned like no other.

Spitting menace, Eldric growled, enunciating each word. "You.test.my.patience!"

Zina squirmed, unable to do anything under the force of the man alone. His wolf was barely out, and yet he was crushing her. Such was the disparity in their physical strength. "Monsters?" He spat out like the word itself highly offended him.

"Is it your wish to torment me with nonsense that does not exist?! I understand that you damned seers like spewing hogshit to sound otherworldly, but did you really think I shall waste resources on a notion that is as unbelievable as Daemon NorthSteed being the reincarnation of the Great Beast Wolf!"

His scream that rang loud saw Zina flung away from the wall to the floor like a rag.

"Get out!"

Just like that, Zina was dismissed. Her body trembling with a rage so profound, and a pain so deep, she gasped for air the moment she stepped outside.

"Are you alright Theta?" Seraph’s voice inquired worriedly at her.

"The Theta will always be fine," Lykom’s voice rang behind her. It seemed the man had followed her outside. "Might I have a word with you?"

Without waiting for her response, he walked away, presuming that Zina would follow. Dismayed that the man had seen her in a moment of weakness, Zina followed him the few steps that probably led to a private corner as she could not sense any other person close to them.

Her dislodged shoulder hung limply, the pain sending stinging tears to her eyes, but she blinked them back.

"How many lives do you have, try as I may, I can’t seem to be able to touch you."

Zina froze at his words, her heart thumping wildly in her chest.
