Chapter 282: His Shenanigans

Chapter 282: His Shenanigans

ZINA

Daemon was being encouraging and all, but that only served to stoke the invisible flames of Zina’s frustration. Right then at that moment, she didn’t need to hear encouraging words or anything of the sorts, what she needed instead was to set herself straight on her current reality, which was the fact that there was something dangerous about her.

It might not be obvious yet, but all the facts that had presented themselves before her and Daemon in the past few weeks was all the evidence she needed.

Feeling uncomfortable in his hold, she detangled herself from his embrace and she watched as a flicker of annoyance shifted in his eyes.

"Today, I met with the man we have been looking for." She announced while staring intently at him, eager to single out any reaction he might have.

Apart from the slight, almost imperceptible tensing of his shoulders, Daemon might have as well acted as though he already knew about what she spoke of.

"Must have been the masked man whom I heard stepped into the fight." He drawled, a dangerous lithe to his tone.

Zina nodded. "He says he wants to save me."

"If you need saving then I will be the one to do it." Daemon snapped, although Zina knew his anger was not directed at her.

"Daemon, do you know who he could possibly be?"

"I would have thought you would have asked him."

"Well he wouldn’t answer."

"So how am I to know the answer either?"

"Why are you being so angry with me?"

"Because you’re angry with yourself!" Daemon exploded, standing up brashly. He rubbed at his face as if staving off tiredness that lingered no matter what he did.

"Zina," he bent, clutching her shoulders, "I’ve never cared for prophecies of old or new. Whether it be the Five Great Evils or anything else, so can you stop being so depressing about your thoughts for goodness sake!"

In that moment, it was easier for her to lean into the intensity of his words and let go of it all. Truly, that moment she realized that Daemon did indeed love her. And he was never afraid to show it.

But she could not take the easy way out because in view of the fact that Daemon’s life seemed to now be involved, it looked like the cowardly path.

"You say you do not believe prophecies of old or new. What about me, do you trust me?"

"Of course I do!" He answered sharply, his eyes yearning and burning at the same time. It scorched where he gripped her shoulders, and Zina truly wanted to lean into his embrace and abandon what she wanted to say.

But she didn’t.

"It’s good you trust me, now I shall tell you something I saw yesterday. You died... Daemon. And I was the one that killed you."

While Zina’s heart seemed to frost over at the words, Daemon only squinted at her as if he was examining to know whether it was truly her before him.

"You do realize how ridiculous what you’re saying is?"

"Daemon, this is not about brute strength."

"Then what is this about? Pray tell I am eager to know how remotely possible you think that is."

"They’re a lot of things that point out that my origins might have been something more."

Daemon smirked, his hands crawling up to her face languidly while his intense stare both froze and seduced her. "It’s true that the Scream of a member of a Screamers Pack is enough to kill an army when done right, but it seems to me that you’ve forgotten my dear that I am not any random person."

His fingers trailed the corners of her lips, caressing and touching while leaving goosebumps. "On the two occasions that this mouth of yours have let out that terrifying scream, every other thing might have indeed fallen apart, but I’ve remained standing no?"

It never occurred to her until his words sank in, but the realization was quite a shocker. Zina had never thought of the fact that her screams that shattered windows and glass wares somehow never fazed Daemon even though it was logical to think that a living thing would have been affected the same.

And now that she was thinking about it in combination with everything Ablanch said to her, she was beginning to see Daemon’s strength in a new light.

Daemon clicked his tongue. "Surely you didn’t think I’ve become weak simply because I told you that I am struggling to adjust to possessing two Supreme Wolf’s?"

"No... no... I... I" she began to stutter while Daemon lips broke into a dark teasing smile. Shaking her head, she internally glared at her scrambled thoughts before she screamed without thinking, "My wolf also said something was put inside me! I might not look like much now, but who knows whenever this thing will show itself."

Daemon rolled his eyes, utterly shocking her. "I wouldn’t advise you to listen to that feral thing all the time, especially when it’s a matter of great importance!"

Zina was appalled. "That is rich coming from a Supreme Shifter! I am sure you communicate with your wolf at least ten times a day!"

Sweet goddess, she sounded whiny and all, but that was nothing in comparison to Daemon choosing that moment to laugh while his finger stroked her bottom lips.

"Indeed, my wolf also speaks to me every now and then."

Zina made a ’humph’ sound before muttering, "I knew it."

She shifted uncomfortably underneath his smoky stare while clenching her thighs together. He wasn’t even properly touching her, and yet she was already turned on.

Daemon wiggled his eyebrows playfully, inching closer to her while she inched backwards deeper into the bed until they were both lying on it.

"Since you told me what your wolf said to you, I believe it’s only right for me to tell you what mine says all the damn time."

Zina was sure whatever it was that his wolf said to him, it definitely wasn’t anything good.
