The Alpha's Blind Fate -
Chapter 257: Alpha Kairos
Chapter 257: Alpha Kairos
ZINA
Blue, thoroughly amused eyes blinked back at Zina while she stood rooted in shock, not really processing the words of the man who was still supporting her by the waist, and whose biceps she was still clutching onto for support.
Her heart thudded against her ears, so much so that she was sure that they all heard the strange palpitations and probably mistook it as some sort of feelings on her part for the handsome stranger with blue eyes and silver hair.
Zina couldn’t have possibly gotten the eyes mixed wrong. She was sure that those eyes were the same as that of the wolf that stood by Daemon’s side... the same wolf that died under the hands of the cloaked figure that somehow bore Zina’s face and her staff....
...there was no way she was going to admit that that heartless thing that controlled her staff was her. No way.
"While I do admit that having a beau in my hands is flattering, may I at least know your name. I mean we have to get to know each other before we can take the next step in our relationship?"
Zina hardly took cognizance of the fact that she and the man were both standing in a decadent manner. Especially on her side; her attempt to grip the man’s bicep made it look as though she wanted to climb him.
But instead of remedying their position, she asked instead, her voice possessing stealth. "And who are you?"
The man smirked, yet again looking strangely familiar to Zina although she had never seen that face before, especially in consideration of the fact that it had been just a few months she regained her sight. So why was he familiar?
"I must assume my Lady, that you’re someone of importance to ask me such a question?"
There was a barely concealed stealth in his tone. And behind the easiness of his blue eyes, Zina could see the unleashed darkness like a shadow of dark blue that prowled in the background.
He must be a powerful man; an Alpha at that. He didn’t seem to be a Supreme Wolf from the vision, so an advanced Lycan Shifter?
Zina didn’t take her eyes off the stranger’s blue ones as she studied them as if trying to wrangle from them secrets of old.
"Alpha Kairos," a soft feminine voice called, revealing herself from behind the five burly Epsilon’s that trailed behind the stranger.
The name caused Zina to stiffen, and rightfully so. The name Kairos was one that sent shivers of fear down the spine of any who knew about the brutality that Kairos represented.
Stories had it that there was once a young boy who burnt his parents hut, together with the living bodies of his parents. Said stories went further to add that said boy later became a rogue, and from a rogue, he became a hunter trained under the order of the Iron Coast Hunters. Then that boy, now a man, dominated a vast area of the Central Lands that the Matriarchy Pack could not take control of, later making his own pack and settling as one of the most feared Alphas in Vraga.
That was the shortest form of the story. The longer forms were used to scare children who refused to sleep at night, for the story delved into the unspeakable violence that Hunter Kairos now turned Alpha Kairos committed, and still commits up until this day.
"Perhaps you should unhand the lady," the soft feminine voice spoke again, revealing a young woman that looked to be about Zina’s age who wore a luxurious fur cloak over her body.
The woman’s hair was a shiny black, her eyes strangely murky white that made her come off the appearance of one who possessed the power.
"I believe she should be the one to unhand me," the man drawled easily again, hooded eyes taking over Zina’s body as if appraising her. An appraisal that seriously offended Zina.
Zina took off her fingers from his bicep, stepping back although he made no attempt to take off his fingers wound up her waist.
Before Zina could glare at him in askance, a far gruffer voice spoke.
"In the event that you like your fingers as they are, then this is the right time to opt for self perseveration Kairos."
Marcus stepped out of a dark corridor, cracking his knuckles lazily while taking both Kairos and the woman in through eyes filled with suspicion.
The woman seemed to beam at the sight of Marcus as if jittery from too much excitement. She grinned, "well well, if it isn’t Beta DireWolf." She drawled in a husky voice.
Zina rolled her eyes, but then collected herself and began to straighten her clothes. The vision had muddled her brain, causing her to act in a manner she would otherwise not have acted. She promised herself to be more in control next time.
She was still lost in her head when she realized that Kairos hadn’t taken his eyes away from her for once. That was when Malik stepped forward.
"We better get moving Theta, so you will retire for the night on time."
Zina would have rolled her eyes at that if not for the fact that she was quite grateful for the welcome interruption. Kairos on his part seemed amused, his eyes lazily taking in Zina less than conspicuous company and guards who were hiding in the shadows of the corridors.
"So it’s the famous Theta, huh? You must forgive me for my earlier insolence." He said, not sounding sorry in the least. His hands reached out for hers in a gentlemanly manner that was certainly contradictory to the vicious tales about him.
To humor him, and also make it known that she was far from being scared of a man like him, Zina outstretched her own hand which he took in his palm, kissing the back of her hand.
Zina watched the act, amused and unfeeling. Not only was Kairos tall and brutally handsome, but he certainly possessed a roguish sway doused in testosterone that women would be falling for. It was quite unfortunate that he was a far cry compared to Daemon’s charisma. At least in her own eyes, for she could swear that Seraph literally swooned at the hand kiss while admiring the man with barely concealed puppy eyes.
When the man wouldn’t release her fingers, Zina pried it away from his loose grip while his amused eyes followed the act before coming up to her face.
"I must say, the rumors hardly do your beauty any justice." He said with a bit of a dramatic swath that Zina was tempted to roll her eyes at. Instead of entertaining him, Zina veered to Marcus’ side.
"Is his majesty in his office? I would like to see him." She demanded, knowing that Daemon was at his office for she had seen the light of his office from the castle grounds.
"His majesty has guests." Marcus said, gesturing at Alpha Kairos and the woman whose rabid attention was on Marcus. An attention the DireWolf Beta certainly didn’t return.
Guests in the middle of the night? And Alpha Kairos at that?
"Surely they can wait," Zina spoke a little more authoritatively than she would have cared for. "I only need five minutes to report something of great importance."
Marcus went silent for a moment and Zina could imagine he was communicating the same back to Daemon through the DireWolf Pack link.
"His majesty will see the Theta first, hope you do not mind Alpha Kairos?" Marcus asked although his voice suggested that he could care less for what Alpha Kairos liked or not. There was also some sort of familiarity between them and Zina wondered if they knew.
Kairos chuckled. "How could I possibly compete for his majesty’s attention with his mate and Theta. I shall wait."
