The Alpha's Blind Fate -
Chapter 233: What Is His Mission?
Chapter 233: What Is His Mission?
Finally writing in his POV as I know most of you must be curious! ^.~
THE SIGHTER
"Are you a WolfKnight?"
The woman standing before the Sighter whom he was sure looked younger than she actually appeared stared at him hard for a second, then her expression hardened to ice points.
He wondered what exactly made her so angry; his question itself? Or the intended meaning of it?
But the Sighter had his eyes on something far beyond the Red Sister who called herself Claw. He was after someone more precious... so much precious than his life dare he say.
"I asked if you’re a WolfKnight?" He growled the name that he had realized and discovered way too soon. If he had known about the WolfKnight name years ago, then he wouldn’t be here under the pretense of a contest, neither will she be there at a place that didn’t accept her.
The girl—now a woman—whom he had searched for his whole life would have been rescued, and together, they would have been living a blissful life somehwere far away.
But the Sighter was confused; of all his investigations on the WolfKnights, he didn’t believe he ever came across the fact that someone as young as the woman before him also bore the same surname. The original WolfKnights had been reported to be just twenty-one, and the Sighter had made his personal findings on all those twenty-one WolfKnights which didn’t include the woman before him.
So who exactly was she? The now deceased Sword Red Hand had referred to as Red Hand Fionna. So was she once Fionna WolfKnight?
"You insult me, comrade. A Red Hand has no surname other than a Red Hand. If you’re curious as to my full name, then that will be Red Hand Fionna." The woman hissed in response to his persistent inquiries, seemingly recovered of her shock of the Sword Red Hand that had dropped dead in the blink of an eye.
If it were another situation, the Sighter would have entertained her apparent avulsion over the name. But he was in a truly precarious situation, and unfortunately for the both of them, he had not the time nor the patience.
He would have resorted to getting physical with her to get the answers that she wasn’t forthcoming about, but as hypocritical as it sounded, he was not the kind of man that would hurt a woman.
And the only reason the Sword Red Hand was currently dead despite his aversion to hurting women was because the unfortunate woman had unfortunately crossed the exception to the rule; which is that for even Zina WolfKnight, the Sighter was willing to hurt anyone, even if it meant traversing the realm of the gods to pull down the goddess.
Taking one menancing step forward, his mind began to connect strange dots. Like the fact that Fionna had exchanged intentional glances with Zina WolfKnight during the ceremony to commence the tournament.
Red Sisters were masters when it came to torture, so he was well aware that inflicting pain of any sort on Fionna would not get him the answers that he so desperately needed. In that case, he decided to latch onto something the she so desperately wanted.
He raised the drawstring bag that contained the four objects that they had just acquired. "Are you willing to take a bet with me?"
The woman’s eyes turned into liquid fire. "What are you doing?!" She screamed, staring between the drawstring bag and his face that was obscured by locks of his hair.
The Sighter smiled darkly. "For every of my question you don’t answer, I shall toss away one of these."
She lunged for him like lightning, and he dodged even before she could make sense of her own move. Her eyes widened as if shocked that he had predicted her move so accurately, while the Sighter tsked at how foolish the woman was being.
Just by watching her claw dance with the Sword Red Hand, he had already managed to master her moves with his mind and could accurately predict whatever move she wanted to make. Unless she altered any form of it.
"Shall we begin the bet?" The Sighter asked while he removed one object from the bag, gripping it tightly while the woman glared at him. "But first things first, do you think you can truly defeat me? I mean, do you think even the tips of your fingers will be able to touch me?"
As he had expected, Fionna wasn’t as foolish as the men that he had fought in the past. Something in her eyes held a resemblance to terror as she glared at him.
"What the hell are you?" She asked, "you do not move like a Rogue Hunter would. They are not as fast, nor are they as nimble... just what are you? Or perhaps, the better question is what level of Shifter are you?"
Hmm... smart girl.
"Unfortunately for you, it’s I that will be asking the questions."
"Is this about the Theta?" The woman asked abruptly, her knowing eyes on him. The Sighter had expected that she would infer that much from the previous questions he had asked her.
"Again, it’s I who will ask the questions. Are you a WolfKnight?" To make his point, the Sighter raised the object high in the air, prepared to toss it at a long distance where a team would be ready to catch it and claim it as theirs.
The woman glared distastefully at the object high in the air while she gritted. "No, I am not a WolfKnight. But I was a WolfKnight."
The Sighter drank the information in with much glee and anticipation. Due to the current high status of the WolfKnight Pack, he had not been able to approach any of the Original Pack members to inquire about Zina WolfKnight.
"Do you know Zina WolfKnight?" He asked, his eyes never leaving Fionna’s that revolted with rage at the coercion.
"I know her."
"Present tense huh? Which means you still know her?"
Fionna shut her eyes like the very art of answering his question drove her to the precipice of suicide itself. "To some extent, yes."
"Are you her friend?"
"No."
"Then tell me... do you at least know whether she is happy or not?"
Confused brown eyes took his in. "Are you her ex lover or what? Believe me when I say that while I might not be a match to you. The Alpha King will have your head should you attempt to cross that line."
"Answer the question?" The Sighter gritted, finding it hard to bottle in the mixed emotions he was feeling. "Is she happy now? Was she happy when she was with the WolfKnights?"
Fionna stared at her strangely, then she shook her head. "When she was with the WolfKnights she certainly wasn’t happy. And now... I don’t know whether she is happy or not."
"So she’s not happy." The Sighter concluded, his resolve in what he was doing strengthening.
Fionna frowned. "I never said that."
The Sighter chuckled darkly as his mood plummeted like a crazed horse running the tracks. "If you do not know whether a woman who stays with her fated mate is happy or not, then the natural conclusion is that she’s not happy."
Fionna frowned. "Well she hasn’t been claimed so it’s improper to draw such a conclusion, no?"
Before the Sighter knew it, he was slamming his fist against the tree behind Fionna. "What? That fool hasn’t claimed her?"
"Fool?!" Fionna screamed in disbelief, "I do not know who you’re or what your mission is, but my only mission is to win this tournament and I would rather not be seen with a man who commits treason against the king he is competing to serve."
"My mission...?" The Sighter repeated as if in a daze. What was his mission? Who was he in fact?
Most days, the Sighter was not sure of himself. His name, his origins, his mission. All of them were a blurry mess that he could make no sense of. And honestly, that day thirty-five years ago when he witnessed the destruction of the Screamers Pack... his pack, he lost sense of his identity briefly.
That was until he heard her scream three months ago. It had been brief, distant even. But despite the fact that the Sighter had been at the Iron Coast, the pack’s core that existed within him alerted him to the scream.
It was on hearing it that he realized that someone from the Screamers Pack was still alive. Not only anyone, but a true blood of the Pack... a true blood just like himself.
Who could the person be? How did the person come to exist? His questions and investigations led him to one person... Zina WolfKnight, the Theta of the NorthSteed Pack and the great Seer of the Arctic North. The woman who had now become the most incomprehensible variable in his life.
Her existence made no sense, but it didn’t really matter to him. Finally, he was forced to step out from the dark, and he won’t be going back until he saw this through.
But he had a feeling that her true identity was one that he already knew of. And it was for that reason that he simply couldn’t let go... not even if his death would be the ultimate price.
"I have one mission," the Sighter finally gritted, "and that is to rescue her."
