The Alpha's Blind Fate -
Chapter 222: Compendium Of Vultures
Chapter 222: Compendium Of Vultures
FIONNA
Fionna cracked her knuckles and eased the knot on her neck while she watched the people that looked down on them from the upper balcony start to trickle back out to wherever they were coming from.
Before their noisy exits, Zina had already been dragged out by the new Alpha King who liked he was in a hurry to get somewhere. Fionna hoped to the heavens that Zina had been right and that she had made the right decision in appointing the so-called man known as the Sighter as the leader of their already dreary group. For if she had made the wrong decision, she would be tempted to end Zina and that wouldn’t bode well for her and the Alpha whom she was intending to serve.
Of course Daemon would end her life before she could say quack. But this tournament would now determine her life and the chains that bound her to the Red Sisters only seemed to tug harder and harder with every step that she intended to take away from them.
Breaking away from the Red Sisters would indeed be the hardest thing yet she had ever done, but growth had never been easy for a woman like herself.
It had always been fucking hard, even now
She didn’t even know whether what she was fighting for was worth it; being one of Daemon’s could prove to be another hell especially in view of the fact that the position remained a chartered water. But she knew what she was running away from, and just that fact was enough for her.
The Sighter himself had been silent through his nomination and his eventual leadership title. Fionna would have been unnerved by it if not for the fact that she had met men that were far weird than he was. The man was only taller than her by an inch, and his dark brooding eyes seemed to be unsettled.
He said nothing to her, not even appraising the men that Fionna had kicked their butts for daring to contend for the leadership position while they were the very definition of incompetence themselves.
"Are you going to keep looking at me or will you step up to your position as leader?" Fionna said, crossing her arms and tossing her ponytail behind her while levelling the man with the same dead stare he was giving her. Unfortunately for him, in Fionna’s booms, two could play the same game at the same time.
But the man was either made of steel, or he was just a huge slab of wall that was molded for his silence only echoed even louder. And it wasn’t just in the way his lips did NOT move, it was etched in every crevice of his body. Zina said the man was an expert finder, but Fionna knew a well trained man when she saw one.
And just the way the man seemed to have control over his every move and expression told her that she might be currently looking at a well trained enforcer slash assassin. The kind that was trained from the very first day they were born.
His brooding eyes seemed to be studying her, taking in every single part of her and watching it into his memory. They were locked in that stare for a while before one of their team members groaned while standing from the dirty ground that Fionna had kicked him to.
"Can we move already, team leader? Others already have a head start against us."
The stupid man that was speaking made sense with his words but they annoyed Fionna for the very reason that he was just an incompetent fool that was hoping to take credit for others hard work.
That was the definition of teamwork; incompetent people stealing the shine of competent people.
"Why don’t you get a move instead," Fionna said, blowing at a strand of her hair that suck out on her forehead. She hated when May happened, which was all the time. "You can find the first object on your own, mister buff man, right?"
The man gulped, and then stepped back until he was hiding behind another. They were supposedly over thirty in their group, and yet no one of average intelligence had made their presence known. Fionna would have believed in the concept of hidden gems then and there, but she was everything but a stupid dreamer.
Meanwhile, the Sighter finally raised the envelope containing their map and shredded it open. His dark eyes appraised the contents for all but two seconds before he tossed it back at Fionna.
What? Had he already mastered the map? In just two seconds? That didn’t seem humanly possible for all the teams about them still seemed to be studying their maps and arguing about the contents. No matter, Fionna decided to just trust the man on Zina’s recommendation. Little did she know that the reason the man tossed the map back at her wasn’t because he was done appraising the contents, but because he had decided in a nano second that there was no need for him to find their designated object in the first place.
"Here’s teeming with vultures who wouldn’t hesitate to cut us off. We should be especially wary of the Alpha King’s half brother," Fionna said to the Sighter, ignorant of the man’s true intentions. "Of all the men here he might possess the sharpest minds. We wouldn’t want him to steal our object now." Fionna finished, dusting an invisible flint from her black leather clothes. Even though she had momentarily abandoned wearing the red leather of the Red Sisters, she found that she could not part with the material itself.
The Sighter didn’t seem to be listening to her though, and next thing he glanced up at the area where Daemon and Zina were formally standing at, and then he was storming away from them. And not just stroking away, but he was going in the opposite direction which wasn’t certainly the way to the Forest of Ice Mountains.
Fionna wanted to scream at his back, shout his name or something, but she did nothing and simply stared dumbfounded at his receding back.
What the hell was he doing?
"Where is our leader going to?" One of their group members that was lanky and very tall asked in an almost feminine, hesitant voice. Fionna cut him a glare for she didn’t know the answer to it herself.
