Chapter 193: The Worst Kind Of Witch
Chapter 193: The Worst Kind Of Witch
ZINA
Six Years Ago;
Being a Theta meant that Zina had to know much about the lands that surrounded them since her role took on a diplomatic form. As such, Sybril had become a mentor and teacher, teaching her words that she herself could not see.
"The West operates a highly decentralised pack system. However, common decisions are made by the Seven Elders of the Witch Seers." Sybril taught her on a particularly sunny day of the sunlight that slapped her skin was anything to go by.
Zina frowned at that. "Seven Elders of the Witch Seers? They see visions like I do?"
Sybril chuckled. "They’re not that kind of Seers, think of them as overseers. Just a bunch of seven people that pretend they can oversee the large expanse of the Iron Coast."
"Oh," Zina exclaimed as understanding dawned on her, "but why are they called ’witch’?"
"What do you think is a witch, Theta?"
"People that can perform sorcery?"
"True, but not always. A witch most often at times are horrible people that haunt other people. The Seven Elders are exactly that kind of witch, they haunt and hunt people that cross them, or people they deem to eliminate. They’re the most horrible kind of witch."
(PRESENT)
"Where I am is not for you to know, nor for you to find."
Zina felt like her world was splintering apart. She shook her head vigorously, refusing to believe what the woman was saying... refusing to listen to it for one. Even though the woman hadn’t admitted to it, Zina could feel it in her bones that she was standing before her mother.
Her real mother.
Without intending for it, she started screaming her desperation worth twenty-four years of her life. "Tell me where you’re and I will come find you! Even if it means I will scour the ends of the earth and swim seas to find you, even if it means I must climb trees and tread deserts, I will find you no matter what, so please tell me!"
"Listen to me," the woman said sternly, locking eyes with her, "after this, we will never see again so listen very carefully."
Zina froze, her tears never ending. They will never see again?
Either the woman was unaware of how she had horribly broken her heart, or perhaps she simply didn’t care because she continued without a pause. "I know they are voices and prophecies that ask you to steer away from the new Alpha King of the North, but don’t listen to them!"
Zina’s eyes grew impossibly wide open as her confusion only grew deeper with the unexpected turn in their conversation. Her words took her mind back to the vision by her younger self; the vision to guard her heart and mind from a cryptically described man that could only be Daemon NorthSteed.
"What do you mean I should not listen to them?"
Not like she intended on listening to the cryptic ancient prophecy and the vision from her younger self, but she was curious as to the woman’s insight into the matter.
"There’s something that is coming for you, only a Supreme Wolf will be able to protect you!"
"What...?"
"Your staff, you still have it right?"
"No...I..."
"The staff is indestructible, but you must stow it away somewhere where no one will be able to find it! You must not allow anyone to get to it!"
A terrible headache pressed against Zina’s head; it was hard to follow everything she was saying.
"Why... Why are you telling me all this?! At least explain something to me... like why I am only seeing you this way? What do you mean by the Screamers Ruins?"
The woman smiled a bitter smile, at the same time, she buckled in pain, her hold on Zina’s shoulders loosening.
Zina panicked, scrambling to support her. "What is wrong?" She shouted, desperation like a horrible cloak over her body. She found it hard to breathe as the once strong woman all but shattered before her on the ground.
The woman looked up at her, and her once clear dark eyes were now so red as if it was tainted by blood. "You and I," the woman gasped out, a painful expression twisting her face, "we do not have a normal mother and daughter relationship, nor can we ever have one."
Zina stilled, unable to breathe or move as she supported the woman’s body with stiff hands.
She knew... she had always known it from the first moment she had laid eyes on the woman, but the confirmation had her bawling like a baby.
"The projection will end soon, you must avert your doom!" The woman... her mother screamed while pushing her away.
Zina staggered back from the impact of her push. She wiped her tears away although that did not in any way stop them from streaming down.
"What about you?" Zina asked in a dreary voice as she clutched the hair pin in her hand even tighter.
Her mother turned her face away from her as if to hide her pain. "Once the projection ends, the ruin will no longer be activated. Naturally I shall return to where I came from."
Zina nodded grimly, and wordlessly, she turned away from her too. Clutching the hair pin tightly in her hand, she ran the remaining steps to where she once stood before the black wolf, letting out a battle like scream of anguish while she was at it.
All her life, she had always been lost as to who she truly was. But that day, she had never learned so much about her identity as she currently did... now, she was so sure of who she was.
A woman, born by mistake but must live with her own will.
A woman, wanted by some dead, and wanted by some sinister people alive although only as a means to their devious ends.
Zina kept on screaming until she finally embedded the pin on the wolf’s neck, and blood splattered like a fountain. The projection shattered and she was back at her room.
...?
But Zina’s hands were still in front of her and not on the wolf’a neck. In fact she still held the hair pin up and it glinted clearly, untainted by blood as it had been in the projection.
But the Wolf was no longer the same as it was. It howled, blood spurting from its neck from the damage Zina caused in the projection.
Everything happened all at once; Marcus’ silver arrow embedded itself in the feral things neck, staying there without slicing through the wolf and hurting Zina, and then the dark wolf landed on her, crushing her body until she was sure she could no longer feel her limbs.
